AUTH PLAIN fails while AUTH LOGIN succeeds with Exim -> Dovecot SASL auth
Hello,
we're trying to setup a platform with authenticated SMTP with exim and
relying on dovecot as auth agent.
We've read http://wiki2.dovecot.org/HowTo/EximAndDovecotSASL and so made
the changes mentioned there, also setting
auth_mechanisms = plain login
in conf.d/10-auth.conf .
With this setup, we're able to use AUTH LOGIN method on an SMTP session,
but using AUTH PLAIN

determining whether passwd auth succeeds
Hi,
I'm writing a c++ wrapper around ssh for KDE, mainly for use in a sftp
client. My problem is when starting ssh with the sftp subsystem openssh
gives no indication that password authentication succeeded. This makes it
difficult for my wrapper to determine if the connection succeeded. Now
determining it didn't succeed can be done by checking for another password
prompt. The

Asterisk 16.23.0 strange issue where Answer request succeeds and able to perform actions but Asterisk never sent 200 OK to answer call
Some background...
We use AMI and AsyncAGI to be able to receive events about calls (and other Asterisk details) and control it from our application.
Works great and have about 100 sites (some newer, some older) without issues.
I was notified this morning about a customer who had something strange happen and I can't explain it.
Asterisk 16.23.0 and PJSIP.
Call comes into Asterisk.

SMTP Auth Issue for non /etc/passwd accounts
Folks - With Dovecot 1.0.7, we're seemingly unable to
authenticate users for out-going SMTP access who are
not residing directly within the main system passwd/shadow
files.
(I.e. the users seeded within our non-system "dovecot"
userdbs & passwd files have no "smtp-auth" joy! (Ye
olde "Relaying denied. Proper authentication required")

Problems with Samba
Hi,
I administrate a server (debian etch) on which runs samba, version 3.0.24-6et. Everything worked fine until today. I tried to logon on the server via a clientmachine (win2k, winxp), but i got an error, "System cannot logon because domain not reachable". (it is possible to ping the server and to establish a shortcut (to logon) to the server - that works). I have no idea what

Smbclient succeeds but smbmount fails
Hi,
I can't seem to overcome an odd problem connecting to a directory share
exported by a Win2K (Pro) workstation from my RH Linux 9 system. I was
able to accomplish this successfully with Samba 2.2.7 (using mount -t
smbfs ...). With that configuration, however, I was unable to get
Windows clients to connect to shares exported by the Linux box, so I
upgraded to Samba 3.0.4. Under Samba 3 I

Strange problem with Samba as AD member
Dear all,
I've a real strange problem with one of my Samba-servers. Most of the time a lot of users get the message
about "trust relationship failure" when trying to access the share on this server. Below you find part of a log
where the user can access the share and a few seconds later it's no longer possible. "net ads testjoin" shows
that join of the samba-server

Mere chat on vectorisation matters
Hi, people. Allow me to chat a tiny bit on two vectorisation-related
matters, in the context of R. I'm curious about if the following ideas
have ever been considered, and rejected already.
First is about using the so-called Duff's device for partially unrolling
loops. I did not overly check in R sources, and am not familiar with
them anyway, but the only usage I saw is within

Need help troubleshooting TCP thrashing, possible kernel bug?
I have a FreeNAS 9.3 server running Samba Version 4.3.6 and a bunch of
Windows and Linux clients. Everything's been running fine for a while and
nothing changed on the server.
Recently (Jan 27th) some of the Archlinux clients updated from a 4.8.x
kernel to a 4.9.x kernel. Again, things ran fine. Then on Jan 30th around
2am the Archlinux clients using 4.9.x kernels and utilizing mount.cifs to

Determining if swap memory is turned off
In order to run some performance tests on optimization tools, I want to
be able
to avoid the use of swap memory. In *nix systems, at least Linux ones, I
can issue
a 'sudo swapoff -a' command and use just the RAM available. If I don't
do this, at
some point swap will be used, the disk goes ballistic and the machine is
unresponsive
because it is thrashing data to the swap. I

Hi there!
I want to use sambe to create a share on my linux server. This share is
a directory on my server, which should look for my WINXP clients as a
cdrom. Like a virtual CD-ROM.
Can some one help me how to to it??
Thanks

doSMP package works better than perfect, at least sometimes.
Some might have noticed that REvolution Computing released the doSMP
package to the general public about a month and a half ago, which allows
multiple cores to be accessed for parallel computation in R. Some of our
physical habitat calculations were taking an extraordinary amount of time
to complete and required over-weekend runs, which prompted our interest in
this package. What follows

Status of LDAPS port 636 with Winbind idmap backend ad in 2024?
Dear Samba community,
We run two Samba server in a CTDB cluster in a small group withing a bigger company.
We use Winbind to authenicate and authorize against a company-wide active directory
(using `security = ads` and `idmap config OURDOMAIN : backend = ad`, resp., among others).
So, if I understand this correctly authentication is done via Kerberos and authorization via LDAP.
Unfortunately (but

Need help troubleshooting TCP thrashing, possible kernel bug?
Well that was easier than I thought. Here's the default config provided by
archlinux's samba package, but with "deadtime = 1" included. With this
config, shares mounted via mount.cifs thrash on port 445 after a few
minutes. I think the reconnect logic in the kernel's CIFS client is broken.
Should I report this on the kernel mailing list?

As long as your system isn't thrashing swap it's totally fine. From
what you've written it doesn't sound like you're thrashing.

I'm sorry, I don't have Ubuntu installed anywhere to look the version

samba 3.5 pdc migration
I currently have a samba 3.6 pdc. I would like to migrate that to a samba 4
dc.
I haven't been able to google out all the 'samba migration' hits that meet
my specific use case. Sorry if there is something blindingly obvious on
this topic.
Is it possible to set up a samba 4 dc, and have it capture the sambe 3.6
pdc info?
Currently, samba uses tdbsam. (no ldap) It runs on an Centos
