Doubts about Winbindd
Hi,
I'm trying to set up a PDC using Samba on a Linux server. I need to the
linux clients, using KDE desktop, log in the PDC using the KDE login box. I
think I could use the 'winbindd' to do what I need but, I still have some
questions:
1. Do I need to set up winbindd on each Linux client to log on the
Linux PDC ?
2. Do I need to set up winbindd on the Linux PDC

Samba 3.0 and Active Directory Replication
I have been following the development ot Samba 3.0 with great interest.
There is something that still confuses me.
Can Samba 3.0 join a Windows 2000 network as a domain controller and
replicate Active Directory information with existing Windows 2000 domain
controllers?
If Samba 3.0 is the only domain controller on a network with Windows 2000/XP
clients, will the clients see it as a domain

Searching for Doku Samba with LDAP
Hy *
I'm searching for Doku acting as an PDC in an Windows environment.
I was able to set up the Ldap-Directory itself, storing the Users in the
Directory, this all is working.
But was not able to let the Workstations join the Domain. Here i don't
find Dokumentation about it.
Can anyone send me links about Dokumentation about LDAP and Samba,
acting as an PDC.
Thank you very much

pxe + memdisk ..??
Hello ALL,
I've got a diskless server working (under Gentoo), booting on it works. (a linux session start with no problem.)
My Big problem, is to get Memdisk to boot with PXE. In fact memdisk is loaded, but it cannot find the img file. I've tried a lot of thing, but nothing works...
tftp use : /diskless
the config file for PXE in then in : /diskless/pxelinux.cfg/

pks for openssh
I was directed to the following site by one of our customers regarding
a keyserver built into openssh. There's a patch for 3.4p1 on their
site, but the license isn't very clear, nor is it clear if they have
approached the openssh team regarding the inclusion of this subsystem
into openssh proper.
I've been asked to patch Mandrake's openssh with this feature, but I'm

2 (Suse), one NT 4 server machine and 5 user databases???
I currently have a setup of 1 NT 4.0 PDC server and to SUSE boxes
sharing via a samba share. I seem to have to make 5 different
usename/password databases. 1 for NT, 2 for each SuSe box (One Linux
and one Samba). Is there a way to have 1 or maybe two databases to
update? I've read about LDAP on other connections but I'm a little
confused as to what is the best approach.

PDC/Roving Profiles/and Password Encryption
Hi All,
Well, despite my general idiocy I've managed to get PDC and roving profiles working perfectly in my test situation. Obviously, this isn't good enough since computers are the devil, so I've run into some more problems.
Fortunately for the Samba team, this isn't a problem with Samba - I think it's more a problem with how our network is set up here.
Basically,

pxe weirdness
I know that this is not a pxelinux/syslinux question (yet), but I am
having a weird issue with a HP ML370.
It is using HP UNDI PXE 2.1 (build 082) v 3.1.15
I successfully get an IP address from my DHCP server, but the machine
fails when it attempts to make it's TFTP connection with:
"PXE-E32 - TFTP Open timeout"
It never gets the pxelinux.0 file.
The odd thing I noticed was

load password users in Ldap
Hello,
I'm new in Samba Ldap. I use samba-2.2.3a and openldap2-2.1.4-46.
I am going to load in Ldap a lot of users in a ldif file as it is shown below. But I don't know how to put samba password. I can use:
smbpasswd juan1
and then the fields lmPassword and ntPassword are changed. In this way, after load all users in Ldap I would need a script to do a smbpasswd for each user

Windows Remote Install
I saw a section entitled "PXELINUX and the Windows Remote Install
Server", but there was nothing below it.
I'm trying to figure out how to do this. Any advise would be appreciated.
Do you suggest PXE, Etherboot, or Netboot? Could someone explain
the difference?
I still haven't figured out how all this fits together yet.
Thanks.

Booting from a USB flash memory stick.
Hi,
This might be a bit off topic, but I hope people can help anyway.
I have a USB 256Mb Memory stick.
I have created an ext2 partition on it, and have saved files to it.
I have stored a kernel image on it, together with an /etc/lilo.conf file.
When I run lilo, if writes lilo to the boot sector of the flash disk.
When I try to boot into linux using the USB Memory stick, I get a single

without MAC addr in dhcpd.conf will not get IP addr
Hi, I successfully boot up diskless client to DOS. In
my dhcpd.conf, I have specified the MAC address of
each network card like :
host client1 {
hardware ethernet xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx;
}
When I removed the host client {...}, my client will
not get the DHCP address. I do not wish to key in
thousands of MAC address in the dhcpd.conf when I
implement this. Any help? Thanks.

Boot disk on USB memory stick
Having looked at some of the discussions circulating before,
I tried the recipe that Bruce Bryne suggested to make a memory stick
to be a RedHat EL bootable file system for RedHat installation,
but then hit a "missing operating system" problem.
Below are the steps I took:
a. mkdosfs /dev/sdc1
b. mount /dev/sdc1 /mnt/stick
c. cp rhas3u2/isolinux/* /mnt/stick
where rhas3u2 is the

supress access to the /etc/passwd
Hi,
I've just install samba 2.2 with ldap support, it is working just fine.
I've create some samba users using smbpasswd and they are inserted into the ldap directory.
But, I was wondering if it was possible to delegate the full authentification process to ldap. That's to say completely remove any information from /etc/passwd?
Thanks.

LDAP workstation field
My client wants me to prevent limit the workstations users can access. I
have samba with roaming profiles in place, and it works well, and I have
put LDAP into use on another project without problems.
I notice there is a workstation field in the Samba LDAP database, does
anyone know if it works to limit access to certain workstations?
