Stupid Little Doubt
I'm reading the samba-howto-collection and just got a doubt.
Even using mysql or ldap I still have to have one user for each
username I insert in pdbedit (smbpasswd/ldap/mysql/etc) ?
There's no way to automatize it just like the add user command to
add machines in the passwd?

Kerberos and smbmount
Hi,
I have been playing with the latest alpha (samba-3.0alpha20) for a while
now trying to get Kerberos and smbmount working together to access shares
on a Windows 2000 Server SP3.
As I understand it, without modifications to the code this should not work
at all. I tried to make a few changes, namely setting c->use_kerberos=True
and commenting out c->use_spnego=False. I also had to comment

Pool printing via cups and notification via samba
Hello,
I've been thinking about setting up some sort of pool printing,
where a job can be sent and the system can decide which printer
to send it to.
I know that with cups I can define a pool, but I'd like to have
samba print a notification as to which printer cups sent the
job to.
The rationale is: I have multiple printers, each under a
maintenance agreement. I have some printers

smbfs size limit
Hello, Samba-users,
please don?t beat me, but I have to ask this question here, as I
haven?t found an answer I can rely on until now.
I am working on a solution for a backup-problem and one possible
solution could be the use of smbfs/smbmount.
I am testing that now, mounting a WinXPHome(sorry, testing ...)-share
which is 20GB of size (8GB used) to my linux-box. The linux-box is a

this question is rather related to samba, although not exclusively. I
consider it related enough to ask here, please apologise if you don't.

PDC/profile Migration to new Host (Domain)
Hello,
I have to migrate a network with a samba 2.2 PDC to a new host with a
Samba 3.0 PDC.
Samba 3.0 is up and running now.
The only thing that makes me nervous is how to migrate the profiles of
the old PDC to
the new PDC. Unfortunately usernames/machine names will also change.
The profiles are per user (not per machine) and will stay this way.
The clients are win2K pro, winXP pro.
Is it

SMBMount Not Recognizing File Locks
I'm trying to set up a "dropbox" application that will monitor a
directory for newly created files and process them. The problem I am
having is that my linux process is not recognizing that a file is
still being written to by another server.
Here's the configuration:
Redhat Linux with 2.4.9-31smp kernel using SAMBA 2.0.10 client to
mount a share that exists on a Windows 2000

MySQL passdb backend (mysql_init)?
Greetings All,
I am trying to use MySQL4 as the backend for authentication through Samba 3.0.0. When I finally got it to compile ok (damn that mysql/mysql.h) I cannot get it to work. Below you'll find the log transcript from when I try to connect with any client -- smbclient in this case. And yes, I have the MySQL-part setup correctly using the example mysql.dump from the dist and the user

Unable to mount Windows 2003 Server shares from Linux RH 7.3
Greetings,
I am trying, FROM a Linux Red Hat 7.3, to mount a share sitting on a
Windows 2003 Server and I am getting the following problems.
I had done this with a NT4 server and it was working fine.
I am trying to mount the following:
mount.smbfs //NT2003SERVER/share /mnt -o username=user,password=pass
At first, I was getting the following error:

cifs samba mailing list
For two days now I've tried for two days now to get cifs working on a
redhat 9.0 2.4.20 based linux box. I followed the instructions given at
http://de.samba.org/samba/Linux_CIFS_client.html, i.e. compiling
cifs-0.6.8 and mount.cifs rev. 1.2.2.1. I successfully loaded the cifs.o
as a module and following the given examples I tried:

Will Digium iaxy stop working with asterisk 1.6; as it is discontinued?
Digium has discontinued their ATA iaxy adapter; don't blame them, too expensive so they can not compete.
The adapter is upgraded automaticaly when it is connected to new asterisk version; since this adapter is discontinued will it still work with asterisk 1.6
and beyond or will it be\ just a "door stopper"?

samba and very large files
I am seeing a problem that I am not sure how to fix and since I have
never had to use samba for anything major like this I am not sure where
to go. So, here is goes!
I have a few Gentoo systems that currently have a bunch of data on them.
I have been tasked with getting data from some Windows machines to the
Gentoo systems so that we can dump the Windows machines. So, the windows
machines are

Have the Dovecot Enterprise Edition packages been discontinued?
Hi,
I've been using the Dovecot EE packages for Ubuntu for some time now and
just recently started getting 404 errors. Have those packages been
discontinued or is this just a temporary issue?
Thanks.

Soundpoint IP 430 -- discontinued.
Hey, all. I'm in the middle of a rollout, and just learned that the
SoundPoint IP 430 -- my favorite mid-range phone -- has been discontinued.
The heir apparent is the SoundPoint IP 450 -- for a low, low, low $130
more/handset. AND it doesn't look as nice.
Ouch.
Does anyone have any recommendations -- Polycom or otherwise -- for a
good-quality, mid-range, two-line SIP phone (with good

%S support in printer path discontinued ?
I've encountered a following bug:
I use one "path" statement in "general" section: "path =
/var/network/%S".
Then I keep symlinks to my services in /var/network.
When I installed samba-2.2.0, my printers stopped working.
I've investigated this incident with debug=3 and discovered that samba
refused to spool to file "/var/network/%S/smbprn.9".

Yep, works fine here on Debian 5.0/x86_64 with gcc 4.3.2.
Did you build with make REQUIRES_RTTI=1 which is required
as of LLVM 2.7 to get RTTI for LLVM symbols?
