Samba not recognizing secondary groups
Hi all. I'm having a strange issue with a server running Samba 3.0.2a.
The server has a single share, and under that are subfolders that
contain documents. Each subfolder is owned by a different
folder-specific group, and users belong to the groups that own the
folders to which they need access.
But suddenly one user can't access any folders. Windows (the client)

replacing permissions on uploaded windows files
Hello,
I've got a CentOS box and users are putting Windows long files on
it, files with " " and " - " in their filenames. I'm trying to adjust the
permissions as well as user and group membership and i'd like the changes to
be sticky. On the tld i've set permissions of 2755 and am trying to batch
convert the files and subfolders in it. I've done this:

rpart and TREE, can be the same?
Hi, all,
I am wondering if it is possible to set parameters of 'rpart' and 'tree'
such that they will produce the exact same tree? Thanks.

virtio for 9.1-R
Hi guys,
I can't see virtio in releng/9.1, is there any particular reason why it
isn't going to be included given that it works reasonable well (and is
optional anyway, so not likely to be detrimental)?
Thanks,

What Happened to my SAMBA? Permissions Issue
OK. Everything is going great for 4 years on my FC3 Samba Version 3.0.3-5.
Now all of a sudden, when someone opens a Word/Excel file on a Samba share, it changes the user Owner to that user as well as modifies the permissions to r-x and leaves the group/permission bits/owner setting alone.
I have the root directories for all shares with the u and g sticky bits set on, but it is not enforcing

SUQ: Share permissions
After parsing through the various bits of available documentation, I'm
forced to bow before the group and ask the following Silly User Question:
While I can create and set NT ACLs on files/folder, anything in the root of
the share can be deleted by any user who has access to that share. I've
munged something in my file permissions. What /should/ the file permissions

Unable to connect to smb shares from second machine in workgroup
I have a pretty simply home LAN with a Linux box (Mandrake 9.1) and 2 XP
boxes. The workgroup is named UNIVERSE and the machines are earth
(Linux), voyager (XP) and starbase (XP). (smb.conf has security=user).
Voyager can browse over to \\earth\share no problem. Recently I
connected starbase to my LAN using a wireless router. When on starbase I
cannot browse to \\earth\share. When I do so I

Sortable - can we make one or more elements in a list sticky?
In a sortable list, is there a way to say, pass a className whereby some
of the elements in the sortable element would not become
draggables/droppables? If not, it seems like it could be implemented
similarly to the handle option.. Any interest?
Also - I submitted a patch that adds the option "delay" so that draggables
in a Sortable won''t truly become activated until after the

Default directory permissions
Hello,
What is the justification for having both /var/run/puppet and /var/lib/puppet/state both world writable and sticky?
Thank you,

[Announcement] Version 1.0.3 released
With pleasure we announce the release of version 1.0.3. Here is a
summary of the changes:
* Show error message when failing to write a PID file.
* Ignore spaces at end of lines in config files.
* Fix handling of late packets.
* Unify BSD tun/tap device handling. This allows IPv6 on tun devices and
anything on tap devices as long as the underlying OS supports it.
* Handle IPv6 on Solaris tun

directory vs. file delete permissions
I have an [apps] share that was intended to be read-only (to keep
viruses away) however some Windows programs require rw access to
specific files. I don't want to open-up everything on the share to rw,
only those specific files/directories that need 'w' access.
Here's the dilemma: In order for users to be able to change a file, the
file and directory it's in need to have rw

Samba permission settings ... Server 777 ... wks 755!?
I have one Samba share on my server (RH9). The permission on the shared
folders/files are set to 777. The owner of the files/folders is let's say X.
When I mount the share on my workstation (Mandrake 9.1) using the username,
uid and gid option (of user X) the owner of the files that I see at the mount
point is still X, but the permissions are now 755. Why aren't the

UNIX/SAMBA file permission interaction
Hi Everyone,
Just prior to christmas I asked a question relating to the interaction
of SAMBA with UNIX permissions. The answer I got back was to set the
sticky bit on the folder in question. I did this and sure enough SAMBA
then followed the behaviour I expected.
Can any one explain to me why?
For those of you baffled, this is what occurs:
Without the sticky bit set on a folder that has rwx
