Read-only folders and WinXP
Hi, I posted this some time ago but it remained unanswered; sorry for the repost, but I hope to receive at least some confirmations or otherwise by other people using WinXP Pro. Using Samba 2.2.8a, I have a problem on a WinXP Pro client regarding the read-only attribute on folders; the problem does not appear on Win2000 Pro clients. Here it is: setting and unsetting the read-only attribute on

Log level and debug classes
Hi, I quote from the smb.conf man page: ------------------------------------ log level (G) The value of the parameter (a astring) allows the debug level (logging level) to be specified in the smb.conf file. This parameter has been extended since the 2.2.x series, now it allow to specify the debug level for multiple debug classes. [...] Example: log level = 3 passdb:5 auth:10 winbind:2

%u and %U different between Win98 and Win XP Pro
I have a computer here with both Win 98 and Win XP Pro set up as a dual boot. The computer name and domain are the same in both O/S's. I log in to them with the user name "george". When I log in from Win 98, %u expands to my username, "george". When I log in through Win XP, I get "guest". Can anyone suggest why this is happening? I don't have any userid's

Problem : Samba 3.0.2a as PDC with Win2000 Pro
Hi, all.... Honestly I'm a newbie in Linux. For a couple days, I've been trying to build my own PDC server. I've got enough manual resource for guidance, but somehow, untill now I can't log my Win2000 Profesional into the PDC server. I'm using Debian sid kernel 2.6.5, Samba 3.0.2a and a Win2000 box as client. I think there's nothing wrong with my smb.conf ( I guess...

Visual Fox Pro 6 APP and Wine & Reggresion
Hello, i'm working in software development company, and we have a custom made software in VFP 6, as we're thinking on replacing all our win9x boxes to linux (since we got rid of those hard-to-manage-and-prone-to-error nt boxes) since we mostly use this app for everything, we tried to run it in Linux using wine. i downloaded the latest wine release, the codeweavers release and a CVS one,

Re: Winpopup message to all user on a PDC
Ok that is pretty much what I do.. Except.. Most of my net sends don't end up working.. They fail unless I explicitly do a nmblookup and specify the broadcast to find that computer.. Seeing how im dealing with the entire contents of 10.x.x.x around 20,000 computers that I may have to contact for some reason.. Its easy for me to know there netbios name.. As its there login name.. However

XP & 2000 Printer problem
I'm having a problem with my XP & 2000 pc's, with printers. During the initial installation and configuration of these machines, everything is fine. But any printer added to the network AFTER the initial config of the winXP & win2000 pc's, isn't available to these machines. So... if I add any printers to my network, I can't use them with my winXP or win2000

Samba as client, windows 200 pro as server of anonymous share
Hi, This may look more like a question on how to configure my windows 2000 than my samba but here I go: I'm trying to access some shares on a windows 200o pro box from a linux samba client. I want anybody to access the share from anywhere without a password. In the windows 2000 share I have set full control permissions for Everyone, and also for the Guest user. The guest user has no

CentOS 8.0 1905 is now available for download
Host: CentOS 7.7, virtualisation through KVM and qemu. Pretty standard, straight out of the box. I just used VMM to run up another VM and installed into it. %U and %u different between XP and Win98
I want to use %U to map My Documents to each individual's directory on the Samba server. This is working fine in Win98 but in XP %U maps to "guest" when I log in as "george". In Win98 %U comes across as "george". I am running Samba V 3.0.20 Linux kernel 2.4.22 Slackware 9.1.0 All Win98 and XP machines are in a domain with the pdc on a different box from

Win2000 and XP can't join Samba(CVS)-Domain
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hallo guys. When trying to connect a Win2000-Pro or WinXP-Pro to a Samba managed Domain, it says there is no user key for the login session(germ.: "Es ist kein Benutzersitzungsschl?ssel f?r die angegebene Anmeldesitzung vorhanden"). The strange WinNT(4.0 Workstation) did join. In the logs (level 2) is all right. The administrator can

CentOS 8.0 1905 is now available for download
Heads up, Hyper-V Gen 2, CentOS 8 Server with GUI install results in a black screen as updates are needed for X to properly detect and load the video. If you can ssh into the box, do a yum update and it should grab the needed updates, then reboot. User mapping/login issue
Ps. Smb1 in Win10 ! I mean ofcourse.. Step 1: Go to Start button and type Control Panel. You will get Control Panel; Desktop app. Click on it. Step 2: You will get a window with a list of software on it, go to the left side of the panel and click Turn Windows Features On or Off. Step 3: You need to remove the checkmark beside SMB 1.0/CFs File Sharing Support to disable SMB1 for good. If you
