Guest Share Access Fails for Win XP Client
Hi, I'm trying to set up a transfer area between my RH9 box and my WXP box. Preferably no password would be required on the WXP box, but I'll take anything after the ridiculous amount of time I've spent on this. If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it. At this point I'd be willing to offer my first born child as a reward. And I'll throw in my mother in law free. :)

Curiosity when installing CentOS 5.1 in addition to W98 & WXP
I got half way through an installation of CentOS on a box that has Window$ 98 in the first partition and Window$ XP in the second, where CentOS was designated for partitions 3 (/boot - 128MB) and 4 (/) and had some strange results. During the install, I changed the default OS to boot to Window$ (because I rarely use this machine, but others who don't have a clue use Wxx), but then while the

samba 3 LDAP/PDC problem - adding WXP account
Hi, I've finally gotten my LDAP password backend up and running, and finally figured out the SID 1000/1001 thing for Samba admin. However I'm unable to join the workstation to my domain. Using any random user in the WXP dialogue, I get the "Access is Denied" error. Fair enough. Using the user with sambasid and sambagroupsid s-*-1000/s-*-1001, I get the error "The Username

Accessing Shares with WXP Pro
Let me rephrase my question: How do I access shares with WXP Pro. I don't want to be part of a domain. I just want to be able to search for the server from the computer, map a network drive to a share, and then life will be good. With that said, right now I can find the server. I can double-click it. But what comes up is a login box that only lets me put in a password. The

AW: SAMBA 3 as PDC - W2K/WXP Pro logon trouble
Oh, so you are using ldap..., well I'm still working with smbpasswd as backend :-( Anyway, I tried 'net getlocalsid' for the domain-sid -> ok Next 'net usersidlist' which should show me the user-sids -> didn't work: "[2004/03/04 06:40:05, 0, pid=31232, effective(0, 0), real(0, 0)] utils/net_rpc.c:net_usersidlist(2158) Could not get the user/sid list" So

Samba to share NFSv4 + ACL mounted filesystems on NetApp storage
Hi, We are running into a problem with a Samba setup and would like to know if a current fix or workaround is at all possible. Our setup is a NetApp filer serving NFS v4 that is mounted by Solaris and Linux servers. On those servers we are using Samba to create shares of those NFSv4 mounted filesystems. We are migrating to this NFSv4 setup from an existing Solaris NFSv3+Posix ACL setup that also

Access to a share resource without password
Dear, I have a Linux Samba server and a Windows XP SP2 client joined to the "g-company.net" domain. I want to access a Linux share resource in /var/share without password from WXP desktop FROM ANY USER. This is my scenario: - I don't create any Linux local user because I want total access from any user - I use security = share - My smbusers file is: root = administrator admin

SAMBA 3 as PDC - W2K/WXP Pro logon trouble
I have a Samba 3 PDC running with an LDAP backend on Red Hat 8. All authentication appears to be working correctly but I can't login to the domain from a W2K or WXP Pro workstation after I have successfully joined them to the domain. If I login locally to the workstation I can browse the Samba shares just fine. I have checked the schannel and sign or seal settings on both the workstations

No ACL inheritance with aclmode=passthrough in onnv-134
Hi list, while preparing for the changed ACL/mode_t mapping semantics coming with onnv-147 [1], I discovered that in onnv-134 on my system ACLs are not inherited when aclmode is set to passthrough for the filesystem. This very much puzzles me. Example: $ uname -a SunOS os 5.11 snv_134 i86pc i386 i86pc $ pwd /Volumes/ACLs/dir1 $ zfs list | grep /Volumes rpool/Volumes 7,00G 39,7G 6,84G

Hello Samba List, i have problems sharing, or better connecting to a printer shared via samba (3.0.10): Situation: - W2K ADS Domain - which auth's the users - WXP Client, which log's in via the W2K-ADS (and auth's of course) - Samba (Linux) ADS-Member, which shares Printer and $HOME - security=ADS - winbind to get AUTH-Info from the W2K ADS Controller Everything seems to work

Can not register W2K computer (WXP and W98 without problems)
I can NOT have a W2KPro computer to reconnect to a RH9 Samba PDC server domain after initial "registration". (I don't have any problems with WXPPro) NetBios name of the W2KPro computer: PRUEBA RH9 PDC Samba domain name: SAMBA When "registering" the W2KPro computer to the domain for the first time, everything seems to work fine (even though it takes longer than usual to

OT - Windows slowdown?
I know this isn't the right forum for this (do I ever!), but you-all know so much about everything I thought I'd ask. About two months ago I resurrected my daughter's Compaq laptop (cracked screen - replaced it) and ran an update on it. It's running Windows XP, SP1 (I think), but since the update it has run about 1/3 as fast as it used to. Does anyone know if there was a WXP

NT4 machine trust breaks on a Samba-BDC
Hello all, We have Samba (2.2.5) running on three servers, each in a different subnet. One of them is a PDC (domain master = yes). The Samba PDC is also the NIS master. The smbpasswd is replicated using rsync to the other machines that act as Samba BDCs (domain master = no). They are also NIS slave servers. The smbpasswd synchronization takes place automatically every time smbpasswd is updated,

Hello, i've seen this error on the mailing list but no solutions. Problem: No user can execute an .exe file from a group share under any windows version (wXP til Windows 7). Permisions: Every user can read, write, delete, etc in that share. I've chmoded 777 the file but for nothing. CentOS6 virtio?
Are there any updated instructions for installing Windows virtio drivers on a KVM Windows XP vm under CentOS6? The virtio .iso directory structure is slightly different from what is described in the RHEL6 virtualisation manual, and when I attempt to install e.g. the viostor driver, the device manager cannot find anything better than what is already installed. I tried each of the
