Stupid Little Doubt
I'm reading the samba-howto-collection and just got a doubt. Even using mysql or ldap I still have to have one user for each username I insert in pdbedit (smbpasswd/ldap/mysql/etc) ? There's no way to automatize it just like the add user command to add machines in the passwd? regards thiago lima.

Re. : scripts and pdbedit
Hi, I think that the delete user script is called only by smbd when a usrmgr or other external tools work with samba. smbpasswd and pdbedit is local tools and not use the "delete user script", it work directly with the selected sam. ----------------------------------- St?phane PURNELLE stephane.purnelle@corman.be Service Informatique Corman S.A.

Resetting passwords using pdbedit?
[Environment: Samba 3.0.2a with "passdb backend = tdbsam" ] I want to be able to reset user passwords from the command line on the Unix server, without knowledge of the existing password. If I was using an smbpasswd file, I could call the "smbpasswd" command and it would edit the file. But with a backend, that's not available to me. The "pdbedit" command will

Strange problem with pdbedit -Lv : missing users ?
Dear Gaiseric, Yes, according to testparm the backend is a plain text file : smb passwd file = /etc/samba/smbpasswd passdb backend = smbpasswd Therefore I wonder where the User SIDs are stored ?! About "getent passwd", yes all users (active users at least) have a Unix account. About the users that are missing in pdbedit, there is not error in smb.log when they log in. (But I

pdbedit: importing smbpasswd to tdbsam
Hi there, I'm trying to import a smbpasswd-file into a Samba 3.0 installation on Debian Sarge using tdbsam as sole passdb backend. Copying pdbedit's documentation I used pdbedit -i smbpasswd:/root/smbpasswd.old The error message returned was tdb_update_sam: Failing to store a SAM_ACCOUNT for [foo] without a primary group RID where foo is the username to be imported. This message was

Strange problem with pdbedit -Lv : missing users ?
the testparm command will show you the location of the password file and the backend type e.g. smb passwd file = /etc/samba/private/smbpasswd passdb backend = tdbsam The backend file should be a TDB database file , not a plain text file (unless left over from an older version.) You may have users or computers with duplicated SIDs. You should also use "getent

"pdbedit -P ..." not affecting all users/howtoforce one user to change password
Hello, I'm using samba 3.2.41 at Debian Lenny. I have some users in my smbpasswd file, now I'm trying to force them to change password once a given period. #pdbedit -P "maximum password age" -C 300 Above-mentioned command is affecting ONLY "new" users (users created after first first launch of this command), "old" users are not affected, passwords

pdbedit - can't set password expiry, etc?
Hi All Have recently moved from a machine running 2.2 to a new machine running 3.0.10-1. I've just converted the smbpasswd database to tdbsam as I understand password ageing etc does not work with smbpasswd. I've set the line 'passdb backend = tdbsam' in the smb.conf, restarted the daemon and now I'm trying to force a user account to have to change his password the next time

pdbedit -Lw reports "XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX" for password
I've searched google and the samba archives to no avail (appologies if I've missed something), so I will ask the community directly: I am trying to convert a fully populated smbpasswd file to the tdbsam backend: # pdbedit -i smbpasswd:./smbpasswd -e tdbsam:./passdb.tdb This seems to work, on the surface, but upon inspection I find that # pdbedit -Lw username

Strange problem with pdbedit -Lv : missing users ?
Thank you very much for your answer. It's the default, internal backend. (smbpasswd) a) If I do : tdbdump schannel_store.tdb dump | grep BWPC |grep SECRET | wc I get 95 machines (this number looks good). b) smbpasswd is a text file that looks good. c) I can also do "tdbdump secrets.tdb dump" Thanks a lot in advance for any advice, Denis Le 15.12.2014 22:00, Gaiseric

Pool printing via cups and notification via samba
Hello, I've been thinking about setting up some sort of pool printing, where a job can be sent and the system can decide which printer to send it to. I know that with cups I can define a pool, but I'd like to have samba print a notification as to which printer cups sent the job to. The rationale is: I have multiple printers, each under a maintenance agreement. I have some printers

[GOLUM] RE: pdbedit not working as documented
You think Microsoft's mailing lists and forums are better? Just wait (and wait, and and ...). Oh, that's right, you can call Microsft for help ,,, and shell out $295 per. pdbedit and smbpasswd
Hi, maybe a easy question, but I didn't found any answers in mailinglists or google..... The pdbedit account settings like "password lifetime" seem not to work if I use smbpasswd backend. Is this statement correct? In my opinion this setting should also work because the last set time is saved in the smbpasswd file. And one more question: Might the account settings have any

samba 2.2.9 pdbedit -> ldap problems
Hi, I'm having weird problems with pdbedit working with a Ldap backend. Basically I'm not able to join the domain (samba domain mode) with my XP Pro clients. The winpopup error is: no valid IDs mapping. Samba client log shows this: smbd/password.c:domain_client_validate(1558) domain_client_validate: could not fetch trust account password for domain xxx I tracked it down and I think

pdbedit and root SID/RID
Hi I've been reading every documentation available for creating smb domain groups and users, mapping domain groups and users... still learning... Every document I read states that root should be modified to RID 500, by running ' pdbedit -U `net getlocalsid | cut -d ":" -f2 | tr -d ' '`-500 -u root -r', but I always get root to RID 1000 and its domain group RID

Unable to update SID using pdbedit
Since I have had trouble getting the net rpc vampire command to properly migrate passwords, I have been looking into stripping down the net rpc samdump results into a smbpasswd backend file, then importing from there into my tdbsam. The first problem I ran into is that the samdump produces RID values from the domain, whereas I need it to represent UIDs that already exist. No problem, since my

hi list, we want to migrate all our users from smbpasswd into ldap, but first test it so the current samba server in production should not be changed. to achieve this i created a smb.conf file with the following content: --- [smb.conf] [global] workgroup = mpi netbios name = sandy01 netbios aliases = sandy02 sandy03 interfaces = 10.4.0.106/255.255.0.0 bind interfaces only = yes socket
