Printerassistent.
Hi there, Ok. My last postings about my problems with printerinstalation over controlpanel were still not answered. So maybe I have to ask my question in an other way. migrate old samba2.2.8 - smbpasswd to new samba3.0 - ldap - based
I'm just migrating a medium sambainstallation from old samba2.2.8 to new samba 3.0. The server is acting as PDC and there is no BDC. The new samba is based on LDAP and is already successfully tested. Now I need to transfer the whole old smbpasswd to the new ldap-style to convert users and machines with minimal effort. Especially I dont want to break the relations between the machines and

New Printers with Samba 3.14 driver upload
Hello Everybody, we got new networkprinters and set them up. They work fine, but driverupload doesn't seem to work. We deleted the drivers used by the printers we had before. My question is should I also delete the .tdb files associated with printing? I remember driverupload once worked well with the printers we had before. Any advice would be nice. Jan Kellerhoff

Failed to delete entry for share
Hi All, I'm having some minor trouble with an obscure samba feature. I'm using the remote administration "Server Manager" features of smb.conf. Specifically the "add share command" "change share command" and "delete share command". I've written a small C program to do the text-processing portion of smb.conf file needed for each operation. The C

samb.conf
I'm very new to linux, I'm using Linux 8.0, seemed very easy to configure at first, but I'm having trouble configuring how to connect to my computer using linux from my computer using windows98. I see the Mygroup Icon in NetworkNeighborhood and also my user name, but when I click on it, it says to provide a password. I use my user password from linux but no avail. Somewhere I

Problems joining a Samba domain
Hi, I am trying to set up a SAMBA-PDC for our school's network and find a strange Problem with two Win2k workstations. When I try to join the SAMBA domain I receive an error which says the user account - I am using root - is unknown. I call this "strange" because other Win2k machines on the very same subnet work correctly - and what is even stranger: I can manually access all

Samba 2.2.8.a for Solaris
Hi, I just downloaded and installed samba2.2.8.a on a sun4u sparc box running Solaris8. The installation process completed w/o errors and I can now confirm that by "$pkginfo -l samba". I can even start and stop samba by "/etc/rc3.d/S99samba.server start" and see that smbd and nmbd processes are running. However, I can not find the "configure" file in the source

migrating samba 2.2.8a PDC to 3.0.12 SID problem
hi, i'm trying to migrate my samba 2.2.8a pdc to 3.0.12 pdc. I'm using ldap and i have already migrated all the data. Also i have executed convertSambaAccount for the new schema. Login Scripts Win95/WinNT
We want to use simple DOS login scripts with Samba. Our Samba server is a Sun sparc station running under Solaris 2.6, our clients are both Win 95 and Win NT 4.0 workstations. We set up our Samba server with user level security and configured everything according to the Samba documentation. The Samba server is acting as WINS server and domain masterbrowser, there is no Win NT server in our

bundled version not configured?
I am trying to backup files from a linux box to a windows box. The linux seems to be bundles with Samba2.2.8. It also seems not to work as I can't start the daemon or even find some of the expected files. Is it likely it was never installed or configured? How do I get it running or is it better to download a new version and should I uninstall first? How?

Hello fellow samba users, I'm trying to setup my samba server on my linux box, went through the installation and stuff, but ran into a whole world of problems when testing it out (samba2.2.8). As I'm reading through the DIAGNOSIS.txt file included in the docs, I got stuck on Test 7. when I run "smbclient //bigserver/tmp" I get prompted with a password. when I type in my

Samba 2.2.8 under OpenBSD 3.3
Hi, I'm dropping a little question. I've set up a samba server and homes and public shares. Everything works almost fine. The only thing that bothers me is about files and directory masks. In ssh session, I got files with 0700(-rwx------) mask and dirs with 0755(drwxr-xr-x) mask. As I see, there are many mask options in smb.conf so I'm not really sure wich would best fit with my needs

AW: CentOS 5 release for IBM z/Series?
Hi dag! Thx for your reply! So, there will be no release in the near future of centos 5 for Z? At the moment we got a realy small z/linux installation, but i love it. Keeping the TCO as low as we can was necessary to satisfy the decision-maker. So we decided to choos a free linux distribution, centos was a good decicion we thougt. (redhat / fedora was always my favorite flavor *g*) It would

Bug in bitmap producing pdf???
I thought I was clever. I produce both ps and pdf files from LaTeX (MiKTeX), so sometimes I need to get .eps graphs from R, sometmes .pdf. To rationalize this I wrote the following function to let me easily choos what I want wihtou changing the code in my R-programs too much (here embedded in a small test program): plt <- function( file, type = "pdf", dir =
