First login VERY slow only with XP client
Hello all, I have setup a Samba NT domain using OpenLDAP for authentication (compiling samba 2.2.3a with the LDAP option). One linux box holds the OpenLDAP server and is also a samba server (local master, software, doc), another acts as the PDC (holds user dirs) and redirect authentication requests to the former. It works perfectly well with an heterogeneous set of machines (linux-samba clients,

Problems connecting to samba shares from w2k or XP system after configuring smb.conf file...
I modified my smb.conf file according to an old doc I found online and I'm having problems logging in from either of my XP or NT boxes to access the shares on the linux box. I can see the samba linux server in My Network Places. I get the following error if trying to connect after navigating to it from My Network Places: \\lnxwebsrvr is not accessible. You might not have permissions to use

slow start-up
Dear all, I'm working with R 1.2.2 on win98 (256Mb RAM) with ESS 5.1.18. It happens that the start-up is very slow. I don't know exactly how to measure, but with a simple watch I recorded 15 seconds, while the startup of S+ 2000 (Sqpe+4 under ESS) takes around 3 seconds. Tha fact is that sometimes it takes almost a minute (58.30 sec recorded) for the prompt to appear! And ESS gives me an

Revisiting slow explorer.exe connections
Hi: I recently encountered a problem reading directories via an XP Pro client shared from a samba server (redhat's rpm samba-2.2.7-5.8.0). File listing was sometimes VERRRY slow. It was not a DNS issue in this case. The symptoms, and my fix is below, but I wanted to ask, is there a way to deal with this from the server? (I dunno- like redirecting port 80 or something). >From the client,

RE: XP Pro timeout; we have a winner - webclient service
Thanks to Jason Balicki for the correct fix to this problem. The 'webclient' service in Windows XP, somehow interferes with access to the Samba server. With the service stopped and disabled, the clients are working again. Moving email from a folder to another using IMAP isvery slow (sometimes)
Hi to all, very strange! I tried to debug why imap process takes 100% CPu and it is very slow when I move an email from an imap folder to another imap folder and then I typed: strace -tt -o /log-imap.txt -p <process number> well, during the trace the imap process doesn't crash and it is very fast. If I stop the tracing, I have again the problem and sometimes the crash of the

Slow copying over samba server to/from Windows XP
Hi! Just like to know if anyone have the same problem and the solution for this: At our company we buy that UNKNOWN os called MS XP Pro, after a while the users report some errors when they try to copy to our samba fileserver, before we use Win98 at the client side, and that problem was not observable. The copy start at 50mbit/sec and somehow it's stops and just waiting waiting about 10-20

Windows XP slow access to network places shortcut?
All, In winxp & 2k for that matter, you have the ability of saving shortcuts to network places in the my network places. When some of my users try to access these shortcuts(to a samba share) in winxp, it takes a horrendous amount of time for the folders to populate the screen. Especially when viewing in windows explorer with the folders view button depressed. Under tools>folder

slow to drill into directories
I have a samba server configured at a clients office and sometimes when he is drilling down into directories in his "File Explorer" it stalls. I tail'ed the log files and I ran tcpdump, but I can't see anything that stands out. What should I look at? I am running Samba Version 2.2.3a-12.3 for Debian. brian -- Brian Lavender http://www.brie.com/brian/

Windows XP Home Edition
I am using Samba 2.2.3a-12.3 on a Debian server. All the clients but one are XP home edition. I have a share on the server which all workstations are able to see, view, write, edit, etc. After 15 minutes of inactivity the share obtains a red X over the share icon. I am able to reactivate the share by clicking on the red x with no problems. I understand that Microsoft, in their wisdom, has a

XP start menu
Hello everyone! I have Sabma 3 as PDC on a SuSE 10.1. 1) Using XP Pro I can log the domain but once inside I don't have anything in the start menu nor if I explicitly tell Windows to put in. I.e. I cannot insert MSN icon in start menu nor using right click. 2) Another problem is that on every directory, also on desktop, clicking right button and trying to create a new object only let me

I'm using samba 2.2.3a-12.3 for Debian and I seem to have set everything I can: changed the signsecurechannel, sealsecurechannel in the registry to 0 (and back to 1), Changed the policies for autoenrollent and the password encryption (put that off in samba and in windows and then back on again) But ALWAYS do I get

XP Home client problems.
Hi, Please ignore this mail if you have already received this mail before. I have been trying for 2 frustrating weeks to get my XP Home machine to talk to the Samba server on my SuSE 9.2 Linux box. Described below is the crux of the problem. When I do an smbclient on the Linux box I can see the Windows machine listed. However, when I do a net view on the Windows XP Home machine I do not

[Q] Why does it take so long for XP to logon?
If I login to our Samba box (RedHat 7.1 + 2.4.20) under Windows 2K via Start->Run->share name, I get logged in almost immediately. It averages about 25 seconds under XP. This behavior has been true in various versions of Samba since I believe XP was available and is reproducible on every (several) Windows 2K/XP boxes I have tried. This is a workgroup environment with Samba acting as

Problems usign samba with Windows XP Pro
Hello, I have upgraded my computer from W2K to W XP Pro. I use samba connections to reach an Aix server (4.3.3), on which samba 2.2.8a is installed. Before upgrading my computer, everything worked perfectly, but since, the first time I try to access a file or directory on a samba network filesystem, I takes approximately 5 to 6 minutes to make connection. After that, response time is fine. Do
