Security: ads - "net ads user" works, "wbinfo -u" does not
Hi,
I have Debian Squeeze running Samba being a member of the domain (PDC
and BDC are Windows servers) and it's users are authenticated against
AD using winbind for years.
Now there is a need to setup another virtual Debian box exactly like
that. So the name of the first is STUDENT, I named the virtual
STUDENT2. I'm trying to set up the virtual box exactly the same, using

Multiple winbindd processes
Hi,
My problem is that I'd like to have one GNU/Linux box with Samba installed
serve multiple domains.
I have 2 Domains separated from each other. Connected Samba box to both
domains and joined them successfully. Running 2 smbd and 2 nmbd processes
bound to the appropreate network interface, with different settings serving
appropreate domans.
Samba server is visible in both networks but

ERROR: failed to setup guest info.
OK, I had this working a few days ago, but have evidently changed
something that I cannot locate. Someone hit me with their 2x4.
Samba 3.0.22, Fedora Core 4, ldapsam (OpenLDAP 2.3.24).
smbd will not start, with the "ERROR: failed to setup guest info" error (I
have "guest account = guest", which is a valid user with correct info in
LDAP):

smbpasswd and machine accounts
I'm using samba-3.0.23d-19 on openSUSE 10.2 with an LDAP PDC arrangement
I'm trying to sort out some problems with adding a trust relationship.
Specifically, smbpasswd is failing when I try to create/modify the domain
account. Further investigation shows that it is also failing to modify
workstation accounts. However it is able to modify user accounts fine. The
big difference here seems

Unable to locate SID, possible problem with Idmap?
I am running Samba as a PDC with an LDAP backend and all is working
good, except now I am trying to set up a Samba Domain Member server with
shares on it that will be authenticated via the PDC, but for some reason
it is not working. One interesting thing I notice is that when I run
pdbedit -Lv on the PDC I get results like this:
Unix username: test
NT username: test

Problem with ldap backend.
Hello !
I've the following problem on my samba+ldap installation :
The samba server (version 3.0.28-1.el5_2.1) is running on a machine named
luke. The ldap server runs on a machine named anakin.
Both of them seems to be setup correctly, since I can log in on the samba
domain, but when I try to get an entry from the ldap database using the
pdbedit command on luke, I get the following :

Samba and Cisco's WebVPN
Hi All,
I'm posting this just in case someone can tell what's going on with
samba that would prevent this from working. Cisco has the ability to
see a smb share from their webvpn product with CIFS. We can browse
windows shares but not samba shares. The following log outputs are
from my ASA firewall. I know these are cisco logs but I'm hoping a
lightbulb will come on for someone. The

Idmap creates unnecessary group entry
Hy Samba users,
I've got a problem with an samba/ldap setup. As I set an ACL to a domain
group in an windows client, a group mapping entry will be created in the
Idmap ou at the ldap server.
I discoverd the OpenLDAP logfiles. There, the server sends a search
request for the domain group sid to the ldap backend will retreive an
entry back:

Something weird about pdbedit.

permissions problems
I am obviously confused about something, and feel like I am chasing
ghosts. Any help or clarification would be appreciated.
When a user logs in we get messages about corrupt recycle bins.
Setting the logging to level 2 for that client, we have errors like:
open_directory: unable to create user/Desktop. Error was
NT_STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_COLLISION.
OK, the folder already exists in the

Problem establishing interdomain trust
Hello group,
I have 2 Samba PCDs w/ LDAP + winbind called FILESERVER and FUNDUS-SRV for
the domains PROFICON and FUNDUS, respectively.
In PROFICON I created a trust account for FUNDUS using
net rpc trustdom add FUNDUS <passwd> -U proficon\\administrator
which creates the LDAP entry:
dn: uid=FUNDUS$,ou=Computers,dc=office,dc=proficon,dc=sk
uid: FUNDUS$

Fedora 14, Samba and connection problems - passwords
I have just replaced an old FC9 server with a new FC14 server as the old one
died. Before it died I was having trouble authenticating connections to it.
Now I have the new server running I'm still suffering the same problem.
Setting up a user and setting the password gives no errors, but then
connections fail complaining about the password. It is very much a virgin
vanilla setup. All I

Machines randomly kicks out of the domain
Hello
Sorry to ask here, but all googeling doesn't helped. We have several samba domains (samba 3.5.6) with ldap backed and windows 7 clients, which worked fine so far. Know we begin to see that random machines begin to kick out of the domain with the error:

My situation
I am using VirtualBox. Windows 7 Home is the host. Fedora 13 is the guest.
My goal is to cause the Fedora guest to expose an smb share to the Win 7
host and have the Win 7 host mount the share as a drive.
My procedure:
