http gets to user space
hi all, curious is anyone has successfully sent http get packets to userspace for blacklist filtering ... i''d like to do a live cd that would obviate the neccessity to install squid and squidguard, but rather, have iptables send packets to squidguard (or something else) directly ... cheers charles

rpcclient / adddriver returns WERR_ACCESS_DENIED
Hi, I am trying to prepare downloadable printer drivers for Windows-Clients with Samba 3.0.0-final. Everything worked fine so far. But I found no way to add the printer driver files to the samba database. The method using the Add Printer Wizard in W2k did not work for me. This is what I tried: linux4:/# rpcclient -U'root%secret' -c 'adddriver "Windows NT x86"

smbclient -L shows only a part of the shares
Hi, I am using Samba 3.0.1 under Debian Unstable (Kernel 2.4.22). (But also tried this with 2.2.8 with the same results) I use the command "smbclient -L netbios_name -Uname%pw" to list the shares of one of the servers of an ADS Domain. Unfortunately only about 30% of the shares of this particular server appear in the list. In windows all shares are visible. I used the same account in

Can't get "getent passwd" to display winbind users
Hi, I am running Samba 3.0.1 on a Debian/Sid machine. I have installed winbind to access the AD of the local network, which I want to use for UNIX logons. wbinfo -u shows all the users of the AD, but "getent passwd" only shows the contents of the file /etc/passwd. I have been following the instruction for winbind (Chapter 21) in the Samba-HOWTO-Collection. Any comments would be

Problems with OS X 10.11.5
I'm actually seeing from the Apple Support Communities thread that this might all be due to the fact that OS X 10.11.5 clients are requiring SMB signing. Curiously, I noticed that my SMB4.conf file on my FreeBSD server didn't even possess a `client signing` flag. Might all this be resolved if I just add a `client signing = auto` flag for the server's SMB4.conf file, so that the OS X

kerberos with W2K server
Hello, The problem: With the command: net ads join my_linux_box my samba 3.0.1rc1 works fine with a W2k kerberos server But i prefer use the ktpass command on w2k server (and our m$ guru). The problem seems to be that samba dont use /etc/krb5.keytab. The quick read of source and some mail in the archives gives me the beleive that it use a memory keytab (and secrets.tdb ?). I m not sure. Could

Problems with OS X 10.11.5
Would signing cause a performance hit by an order of magnitude though? Is that expected behavior? If so, then it seems worth it to disable signing from the client, given that this is just a NAS on a LAN, not connected to the Internet. Samba odd behaviour on double NAT network
I'm using a rather strange config, borne out of neccessity rather than choice at home. My internet 'router' is a Win2000 Pro box running Winroute, and my three Linux boxen (running 7.2/8.0/9.0 RH) are networked thru to the Win box using SNAT on the box I work on (don't ask why - it's just pratical, and I can't afford a hub/switch to do this). In any case, it's a

w2k ADS + Samba ADS Member, quirky browse mode
Hello, I'm seeing an odd quirk running samba 3.0.21c & winbind with kerberos 1.3.4 joining a windows 2000 ADS domain on RHEL3. The Samba server's hostname is "staging". I run: /usr/kerberos/bin/kinit Administrator@DOMAIN.COM net ads join Then I start up winbind and smb. winbind works prefectly. I can log in as a domain user from via sshd/PAM, and the usual:

Controlling share ACL through W2K's Computer Management MMC
Hi, This is samba 3.0.2a-1 on Debian testing. I'm trying to change share permission with Computer Management snap-in in Windows 2003 Server, but only access denied is given. The only answer I found is http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba-technical/2001-December/017809.html . So I have to use "change share command" and login as local root? I don't like this. Is this the

Samba 3.0.11 as Domain member with ADS W2K
I've been following the forums on this subject. I am still having problems implimenting this at my site. I am trying to replace a Novell 5 file server doing single server signon(workstation manager) with a linux/samba server and a W2K ADS server. I tried this with slackware 10.0, samba 3.0.10, MIT krb5 v 3.1 5, openldap-2.1.22 and got it pretty close (could login wihtout password) but had

Samba ads and local users
Hello, We have *samba 3.0.2a* server running winbindd and security=ads in smb.conf. The authentication of ads users works fine. However, our environment requires using *both Domain and Local* users at the same time. Is there a way to make *samba 3.0.2a* authenticate local users and domain users?

time for a poll -- does anyone use the testprns tool ?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Mostly for print server admins: I am considering marking testprns as deprecated (or just remove it). It doesn't seem to be that useful anymore. Does anyone use it on a regular basis and would therefore be distraught if it were gone in a future 3.0.x release ? cheers, jerry -

joining v2x member to v3x pdc
Hello NG, I want to add a samba v2.2.12 system as a member server to my domain managed by a samba v3.0.3 pdc. Is this possible? It's not as easy as joining a samba >v3.0.x system. My problem is, that I can't update the system to v3 right now. The users are all stored in a ldap-directory which I'm able to access onto the system using the 'id'-cmd. The system has also
