Group creation and ldap
I'm using samba 3.0.4 with ldapsam as a pdc. When I try to create a
group, samba correctly runs the add group script, which creates an LDAP
entry with objectClass set to posixGroup and gidNumber set to the gid I
want to use and cn set to the group name. The next thing samba does is
look for the posix group with the following filters:
[(&(objectClass=sambaGroupMapping)(gidNumber=0))]

bootstrapping vinum root
Well, colleagues, I'm stuck a bit.
I tried many different ways to setup system with vinum root (the only
reference I found yet besides old "bootstrapping vinum" article is Joerg's
commit message: http://freebsd.rambler.ru/bsdmail/cvs-all_2003/msg01225.html
I failed. I have 4-stable system set up at ad0, and tried to set up pair of
drives for new system at ad2 and ad3 (actually,

Interdomain trusts (Bind NACK received on pipe)
I'm attempting to set up a 2-way NT4-style trust between samba 3.0.1-2
(from source rpm on redhat 7.2) and Windows 2003 running active directory.
The AD server (SANDMAN) trust of my Samba domain works fine, but when I
try to use the Samba trust of the AD server I get the following error:
[2004/02/04 15:52:34, 3] rpc_client/cli_pipe.c:rpc_api_pipe(462)

Invalid workgroup name in browse list
On my PDC, which is also the DMB, there is a duplicate entry for a trusted
domain that is run on an AD controller on the same ethernet segment. The
duplicate, though, has several spaces after the name (from browse.dat):
"BROADWAY" 80001000 "CALIMERO" "BROADWAY"
"BROADWAY " 80001000 "CALIMERO"

tng pdc, samba 2.2.8a fileserver
I'm using an ldap-backed TNG PDC for domain logins with no problem.
I've got a samba 2.2.8a fileserver that doesn't seem to correctly map
usernames to domain SIDS. It is passing authentication requests to the
PDC correctly, and allows users to map non-public shares, write to their
home directories, etc. When a file's "security' attributes are viewed in
windows explorer,

After upgrade to 4.9.4, internal DNS no longer working
Then I don't know what caused it. I had no problems prior to the upgrade,
and the upgrade was done without errors..
Unfortunately, no, I don't have backups. 'sam.ldb' is still there, though,
and so are the databases unter 'sam.ldb.d'.
Yes, I tried restarting Samba, even rebooted the server but to no avail.
Here are the results from running samba in the shell:

No, the python code isn't compiled.

UID of the windows Domain Administrator user?
I have installed lots of samba 3 servers as PDCs for little networks
serving 10 users or so. I have always set up the user "root" as the domain
administrator, by setting its group SID to <domainSID>-512 with pdbedit.
My "root" user has usually a user SID of <domainSID>-1000 since it is the
first user I add to Samba. I have never set up a username map

strange problems
Hi all,
I am having some strange problems with samba on one of my fileservers.
I am using samba 2.2.1a compiled with qouta support and the quota patches.
Kernel is 2.4.9 with quota patches.
Everything seems to work fine exept some very wired things:
If I try to save a document from word 2000 to a samba share the file can't
be read afterwards by word.
The file is on the server I can copy the

Domain join issues - 4.9.0
Hi,
After a recent hardware failure where I did not have a working backup,
I am trying to re-create one of my DCs (DC1). This is a Samba 4.9.0
environment throughout. I have DC1 (the one that is hopefully being
re-joined), but also DC2, DC3 and DC4 which are still present, and
these have not experienced issues.
After running the following:
$ sudo samba-tool domain join mydomain.org DC -U myadmin

samba 4.7->4.8 in place upgrade
Hi,
I'm testing the in-place upgrade from 4.7.5 samba to 4.8 and unfortunately
it breaks.
After the upgrade samba seems to have trouble to find his way through the
db:

Version 4.8.0
#ldbsearch -H private/sam.ldb
Unable to determine the DomainSID, can not enforce uniqueness constraint on

Classic Upgrade changes domain SID
Dear samba experts,
I did a classic upgrade from a Samba 3.6.14 samba NT4 DC to a
Samba 4.18.2 AD-DC. It does not work and I just want to make sure
that I have the correct understanding of our domain SID.
On our old Samba server net getdomainsid shows:
SID for local machine SERV00 is: S-1-5-21-1415314133-2460755331-2761616138
SID for domain NAV is: S-1-5-21-1415314133-2460755331-2761616138

winbindd
hi all,
as i heard, i need winbind to connect linux-clients on samba. i installed
this - without pam (in the hope this would work...) but this constellation
seems to be needed, as i still cannot connect, even if winbind logs my
domain as accepted.
Do i really have to do the pam-configuration on the samba-server-side
too?? i just thought, it was enough to authentificate against smbpasswd.

Finding users in trusting/trusted domains
We're currently migrating from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003. Exchange
5.5 is in a Samba3 domain (DOM1), and Exchange 2003 is in a 2000
mixed-mode domain (DOM2), and trusts are active in both directions. Part of the
process requires that we grant users in the DOM2 domain admin rights to
the LDAP server on the Exchange server in DOM1. When we try, we're able
to browse the DOM2 userlist
