credentials file doesn't work
I am using a Gentoo Linux machine and trying to mount a remote file system via samba. The following DOES WORK: mount -t smbfs -o username="SMB-SRV\stonyy",password=abc123 //smbsrv/proj /mnt/proj However, I don't really want my username and password visible to the world (yes, I changed the password and everything but the backslash in the username for this posting). So I tried

smclient-excludes
Hello, samba-users, I am using Amanda to backup WinNT-shares. Amanda uses smbclient to generate smbtar-archives which it then writes to tape. As you all know there are various files on Windows-system-partitions that don?t need to be on backup. For example stuff like pagefile.sys System Volume Information hiberfil.sys and the registry files. So there is a need to exclude files from getting

[OT] Fyodor terminates SCO nmap rights -- how about Samba?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 As you all may know Fyodor of nmap fame has terminated SCO's rights to distribute namp with its products. See: http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2004/02/27/1077676955381.html I know this is off-topic, but I am interested in opinions on the subject of SCO using Samba in it's products while they declare the GPL is unconstitutional and invalid.

Backup from Linux onto Win2K-share
Hi. I'm running Kernel 2.4.19 and Samba 2.2.5. I'm in need to do a backup out of big SAPDB database (60 GB) onto a share on a Win2K-box (all my databases have to backup onto this w2K-box where they get saved on tape). This works fine as long as it comes to 2 GB. Than it stops with the message "file size exceeded". Obviously there is a file size limit somewhere in Samba. How

Only Netbeui on the client is it possible ?
HI all ! I've read in a doc, that Samba is talking only with the clients where Netbios over TCP/IP is running ! I guess it is true, but are there any solution maybe to connect with a client where only the NETBEUI is the only one installed protocol ? It would be from DOS, I have a DOS boot disk which is waking up the Netbeui, and it would be difficult to prepare it to wake up the TCP/IP !

Can't get 'root preexec' to run
Rowland, thanks for your effort, I highly appreciate it! From what I had read before... [home] would be an arbitrarily named share and its preexec command would execute whenever a domain user connects to it [homes] is a special purpose section in the smb.conf that comes into play whenever a domain user connects to his or her home dir defined on the DC What MJ is telling seems to confirm

Samba 3.0.14a problem: not able to see all files in a directory
Regards, Samba 3.0.14a, running on Solaris 8 or Sgi IRIX 6.5.27. Scenario: 1. User has a symlink on his homeshare to a directory, let's call it dir1, which is automounted to the samba server (tried both Solaris samba server and Sgi, same result). 2. In a subdirectory under dir1 there's another directory (dir2) which contains a file (filename.wrl). 3. When the user directs Windows

Samba and IBM directory server 5.1 attributes problems :: attribute pwdmustchange already in ietf draft
Sorry for posting twice but someone mentioned the ietf draft on the attribute ... The attribute that IBM uses for their password policy is described here : http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-behera-ldap-password-policy-06.txt This might give problems with other ldap implementations in the future. I created also a bug report on this. I know that this is not really a bug but could make

Error: cannot allocate vector of size X.0 Mb
Hi, I am working with a file (900MB in size) that has around 10 million records (in particular FASTQ records). I am able to read in the file as an object of BStringSet. When I start to manipulate the data, after almost 4 hours, I get the error message as Error: cannot allocate vector of size X.0 Mb (where X was once 160MB and then 180MB). The R version used is 2.11.1. I am not sure how to check

directory mask = 2770
Hello everyone. I am using Samba 2.0.7 on a RedHat 6.2 machine. I wanted to apply a directory mask of 2770 to everything created in a share. The root directory of this share already has these permissions. I want to have it so that everything created in a certain directory has the permissions of the group of the creator. As it stands, I do have the directory mask = 2770 line in the smb.conf

Fatal Error: Invalid HOMEDRIVE
All, I've encountered the same problem as others who have posted under the same subject. I've had R-1.8.1 installed and running since it was released. Yesterday morning when I tried to start Rgui.exe I got the subject error message. Since I live at the whim of the network administrators I can only assume it was a recent MS critical update. I tried installing R-1.9.0 but no joy. I
