2k and 9x connect and print, XP won't
Good day! I am running Samba3 on a Mandrake 9.1 box. Right now, I have "security = user", but am not using any password authentication yet. I have 95 and 98 computers that can reach the shares available and print to the installed printer, and even a Windows 2000 user can do all of this. However, an XP computer I have can't go there. I double-click "DRAKEJAX" (the

CHMODded group directories don't keep their attributes
I have Samba 2.2.8 on Mandrake 9.2, and have successfully been able to create a folder that grants browse and write permissions to an NT group. But I had to go about it the weird way; after I proved that this user could browse the share (and that a person not in the group couldn't), I noticed that my group member couldn't write to the share. I experimented with different CHMOD things, and

Samba 3.0.1 from samba.org shows "bgmilne" as username
When I attempted to "rpm -i samba3-3.0.0-1.1mdk.src.rpm" this morning on my Mandrake 9.2 box, I got an unusual message that doesn't make sense. It said, over and over (thirteen times total): WARNING: user bgmilne does not exist - using root When it went back to root prompt, I did an "updatedb", but nothing for "samba-3" is found when I did the urpmi request.

Is Samba 3 stable for Mandrake 9.2?
Not to be the annoying child, but I have found myself uniquely annoyed that I can't update RPMs that include Samba 3, and I'm not certain if that's because it's even ready for Mandrake 9.2. Does anyone have a bead on this? Should I just go back to 2.2.8 and wait for the stable, or can someone point out a URL that has a stable 3.0 on it? Thanks Eric

Samba 2.2.8 doesn't allow to write to group share
Two issues, and I'll discuss them both: I created on my NT4 domain a group called "branch99". They're a "local group" as far as NT is concerned, and it has two members; myself, and another fellow down the hall. My end quest is to create a share on a Mandrake 9.2 box running Samba 2.2.8, and have it permit or deny file access based on NT's typical discretions.

samba and usernames
Hello all, I'm putting into production a samba server on rh6.1 with samba-2.0.5a-12 (installed via rpm). The goal is to have windows 9x and nt 4.0 (sp5 and sp6) access individual user directories on that server. The unix password file matches username values as stored on our NT domain. some of the globals: security = server password server = OURPDCNetBIOSNAME under share functions:

Can't reach Samba shares from Win XP Pro
This seems to be common enough problem. I've used a variety of methods (command line as well as utilities like LinNeighborhood) to mount XP shares on my RedHat 8.0 running Samba 2.2.7. I get consistent problems the other way around. Despite a couple of shares on my Linux partition, I am just unable to do get to it. Network Neighborhood shows my Linux/Samba server but no shares, nor can I

XP client has Samba 2 shares 'taken over' by Samba 3 share
*This message was transferred with a trial version of CommuniGate(tm) Pro* I've browsed the list but I haven't seen an issue like this one: We have 3 Linux boxes with Samba shares. 2 of them are SuSE 9.0 Professional with Samba 2.2.8, and one has SuSE Open Enterprise Server 9 with Samba 3.x. These are setup as a workgroup, not a domain. The two 2.2.8 boxes have shares that allow guest

Adding an eventhandler for click, but still be able to zoom in with doubleclick
Hello all, I am using Mapstraction in Zoph (http://www.zoph.org), and although it works very well (thanks to all for their efforts!), I am running into one little problem: On one page, I am allowing a user to add / edit a marker on a page, by clicking on the map. I do this by adding an eventhandler: mapstraction.addEventListener(''click'', clickmap); However, this causes

Samba and NT4 SP3: no write access
Hi everybody! I'm an absolute Linux newbie and I've got some problems with my LAN. I've got two machines at home. On the one machine is Win98/SuSE Linux 6.1 and on the other is Win NT4 SP3. My network from Win98 to Win NT is perfect. Both machines have the function of a file server, that means that I can use the Win NT harddisk from the Win98 machine and the other way round. No

Mac GUI and .Renviron
The .Renviron and .First functions do not seem to work the same way on a Mac OS 10.4 as on a Windows XP machine. From working in Windows I am used to creating a new directory for each data analysis project. In the new directory I place First, an .Renviron file consisting of the following text: R_HISTFILE="history.txt" R_HISTSIZE=1000000 Second, an .RData file containing a .First

flash fails to work on Los Angeles Times website - fix
Hello, I have a 32-bit install of C5.2 on my Intel Centrino Laptop (2005). The Adobe flash plugin works fine in Firefox in all cases except on the Los Angeles Times website http://www.latimes.com. I was baffled by this for a few months, since it works on another 32-bit C5.2 box. When I realized that the only real difference was that the laptop had no LAMP install, and both had the same elaborate

Difference between samba 2.0.0beta4 and NT4.0 ?
Hi Samba-gurus, I have a problem with samba 2.0.0beta4 on solaris 2.5.1 (samba 1.9.18p10 behaves the same) : 1. I have a ordinary text-file on a samba-share (foo.txt). NT4.0 sees the samba-share (\\sun100\tmp) as a netdrive with the letter K:. I've done a 'net use k: \\sun100\tmp'. 2. I can doubleclick in NT4.0-explorer on foo.txt and notepad comes up correctly. 3. I

NT4 domain: users not found
Hi all; ... trying to get a samba setup running atop debian gnu/linux, I am stuck in a strange situation: I set up the samba box to be part of a Windows NT 4 domain, did a net join (which obviously worked, at least a computer account on the PDC was created) and configured the machine to see the domain user accounts (wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g are working, same as there are domain users listed while

Dovecot Wiki: Please disable edit on double click
Hi Aki, could you maybe disable the 'edit on doubleclick' feature on wiki2.dovecot.org? Everytime I try to select a word by double clicking on it, I end up in editing mode. It's just a minor thing, but maybe I'm not the only one who's annoyed by this ;) Thanks! Michael

NT4/samba question
Hello, I was wondering if any knowledgeable people might have the answer to this question. We've configured samba on a sun unix machine running 5.5.1. We can connect and login, without any problems, from our Win98 boxes. However, we cannot login or map drives from the network neighborhood from our Windows NT workstations. The error is: "Account is not authorized to login from this
