Samba3-beta1 as a PDC and using tdbsam as passdb backend it takes the home-directory info from /etc/passwd
I didn't get any answers so I try again:
I am using tdbsam as passdb backand.
I have added root user with pdbedit.
The machine trust account was added on the fly.
I have added the user with pdbedit.
I have created the user in /etc/passwd.
When the user logs in from a W2k and mounts the home-directory I noticed
that Samba didn't take the home-directory information from tdbsam, it

samba3 and CUPS: lpoptions does not work
Hi,
I have set up a CUPS queue in the samba server with specific lpoptions
(actually, it's a queue to print 2-up on an HP LaserJet4300 printer. I used
lpoptions -d NX2-118 -o number-up=2). Everything works as expected when I
print from the Unix side.
However, when I print to the corresponding samba queue, the options
specified through lpoptions are ignored (i.e. the prints come out as 1-up

Using Squid + Samba3 + Winbind
I've just setup a squid server using the above software. NTLM
authentication works 90% of the time with no user intervention. I'm
noticing that occasionally I'm getting a popup asking for a username and
password. I've looked that the winbind logs, and the only thing I notice
is:

Building SAMBA3/LDAP in VMware
I've worked with Samba 3 in an Active Directory environment. Now it's
time to learn Openldap and eventually migrate an existing Active
Directory domain.
Looking for a good How To or Guide for Openldap, Samba 3, and Debian
Woody.

Which Linux best suits Samba3?
In a discussion with one of the main answer people, of whose time I am
greatly appreciative, it was suggested that some of my problem (or
solution) may be to run Samba on a distro that's better suited for it.
Problem is, I don't have the time nor the inclination to download a
bunch of distros just to install, test, fdisk, repeat.
So I ask. what is a recommended recent distro that works

So here is the setup now: pam worknig, ldap working, samba working, passwd

SUCCESS report: samba3 as single-sign-on provider in heterogeneous network
Hi all,
to raise the bug vs success ratio i'd like to express my gratitude to all
samba members and those who, though not in-core developers, generously
supported noobs like me on this mail list.
I've set up an environment two months ago and it has run without glitches or
tweaks since then. Now as misusing my family as beta testers has worked out
so nicely i will deploy an identical

openldap2 + samba3 user changed password on BDC wouldn't sync with PDC
Hi all,
I am newbie on this and I couldn't figure out what I have configured wrong.
I have setup three Linux Debian Sarge servers with openldap2 + samba3.
PDC and master ldap on one machine and BDC slave ldap on the other two.
I followed instructions on
http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html to set them up.
I am using utilities smbldap-passwd.pl from idealx for

Upgrade from 2.2.8a to 3.0.0 fails
Hi,
I tried to upgrade samba on a Linux from 2.2.8a to 3.0.0, and after the
upgrade the printer sharing fails. I would like to participate in the
search for the bug (if it is a bug), but I don't know how to start.
If this is not a bug I would like to know why not, and how to work
around, that the printer does not work with the attached smb.conf, while
it works with samba version 2.2.8a

Seeking documentation for SAMBA3+LDAP but NOT PDC
Hi there,
I would like to build a _simple_ server for sharing files, using Samba3.
I use FreeBSD5, the machine works well with ldap, nss_switch, pam_ldap.
Users can login (ssh) using the ldap account : perfect.
Now i want them to access some file/shares using SMB with Samba3, using
their LDAP account.
BUT : **I don't want to turn this simple server into a PDC machine**
This would be

User restriction on some client machines
Hi,
we have a Samba 3.0.24 server on a Fedora Core 5 system and we use it as PDC. I have client machines with Windows XP SP2.
What I want:
- some machines (for example machine1) should be used only by user1 and user2
- allow user3 to use ONLY some machines (for example machine2)
I tried the following:
[global]
include = /etc/samba/smb.conf.%m
invalid users = user3

userPassword in a LDAP database of a Samba3 domain
Hi folks,
I have been able to migrate a WinNT4 domain to a Samba3 PDC domain using
openldap as a backend and smbldap-tools to vampire the WinNT4 domain (pretty
much following Samba3 by Example and documentation in smbldap project by IDEALX).
Nevertheless, all 600 users migraged from the WinNT4 domain have attributes like
these on the ldap database:
userPassword: {crypt}x

Slow MS Access database after upgrade to Samba3
Hi,
I had a Debian woody server with samba as PDC with LDAP backend in the
same box, and mixed windows clients (98, XP, etc). The clients
accessed a 75MB MS Access database (.mdb) that was put in a Samba
share. Everything was fast... everything was good...
But, last week I decided to upgrade to debian Sarge, so as you know
Samba was upgraded to Samba3 too (3.0.14a), and now if a user tries to

Samba 3 Password Ageing and History
Hello,
I've been looking at Samba 3.0 with a view to an eventual upgrade to help us meet some new security requirements. I've downloaded and compiled the source on the target machine. A test user account has been created and stored using a tdb file.
I have set and verified the following using pdbedit:
minimum password age 60 (seconds)
maximum password age 3600 (seconds)

Assertion failure in journal_bmap() at journal.c:636: "ret != 0"
A scsi error (caused possibly by a loose cable) has left the processes
accessing my ext3 file system hung in an unkillable state after it
triggered an assert in ext3's journaling layer. I assume my only
recourse at this point is to reboot. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Log messages appended.
