Smbpasswd to LDAP migration
I have a Samba PDC running on Redhat 7.3 (samba 3.0.0 installed from
binaries). I initially set it up using smbpasswd as the database
backend and everything was working just fine.
I've since decided to migrate everything to LDAP. I have OpenLDAP
2.0.27 installed and have set up the directory following the
instructions in the Samba-HOWTO-Collection. If I use slapadd to add
Samba users, they

smbmount of XP share results in Permission Denied
Mark Hessling posted about this problem earlier but I (and he) have not
seen any reply to his original post.
I was running Samba 3.0.0 on a Redhat 7.3 server for quite a while and
then recently upgraded to RHEL 3.0 and Samba 3.0.9 (3.0.10 most
recently). Before the upgrade, I was able to, from the Samba server,
mount shares from an XP box. After the upgrade, the mount succeeds (it
shows up the

exit status 12 when transferring a large file
--- Erhalten von ZBM.ZARBR 089/32000-545 24-02-03 12.07
Hi,
I mirror a server installation using rsync 2.5.6 (on both sides) with these
options:
-a -x --numeric-ids -H --delete --stats -e ssh -z --exclude-from ...
This happens every night. In about 80% of the cases rsync returns exit
status 12 when trying to transfer a certain file. In the other 20% the file

Determining length of speex file speech
Hello,
I would like to run a script over a speex file which determines, how
long the speech contained in the speex file is.
So I run through the ogg file, skip the first two ogg _pages_ (speex
header and comment header, both contain IMHO only 1 ogg _packet_), and
then count in any ogg page the number of the ogg _frames_ (which, unless
I used -nframes while encoding, which I did not), and multiply

smbclient tar function : no password asked ?
Hello,
We're using samba 3.0.24 on a Linux box, to access and

I think I'm going to regret asking this, but is there
any more information on Ogg metadata other than what's
at <http://wiki.xiph.org/Metadata>? Is there a more
appropriate list for discussing it? I'm sending this
to the vorbis list because ogg-dev seems to see very
little traffic, and none of the others seems to be
very relevant (this happens to be the one I'm subscribed

smbclient queue and cancel commands not working
Hi,
I'm trying to manage printer queues on a XP box in the lan. Other client
commands work well, even
echo "test" | smbclient //XPBOX/PRINTER -c "print -"
works as expected and starts a print job. But either queue and cancel
don't work, without debug flags with no errors. Cancel even says job is
deleted. With -d4 I see

Windows 10 and Samba 4.1.17-debian (NT Domain)
Hi all,
After some config changes and reboots, I got the Samba server running
properly for my client computers running Windows 7. My issue now is with
Windows 10.
I see threads relating to setting "max protocol = NT1", but this seems to
break the Windows 7 clients (which are finally working again). Below is my
smb.conf file (which works for Windows 7):

Permissions on Samba share for Windows users
I'm working with Samba 3 on my Gentoo box. So far setting up
andconfiguring Samba w/ldap and krb5 support is pretty straight
forwared. My Gentoo box is now a member server of the domain, shows up
in Active Directory.
I can get a kerbereos ticket from our W2K PDC and connect to windows
shares with as little effort as:
smbclient //server/share -k
Now I'm ready to start moving into

Re: automount shares
Adam,
Rather than using /etc/fstab (works fine), for users with different
share requirements, you could set up a mount point in autofs. In the
/etc/auto.master file, set up the mount point and connection file
/home/user/mnt /etc/auto.user --timeout=60
Then in your /etc/auto.user file, set up the specific share connection
(sub appropriate values for user, uid and IP/share)

Windows 10 and Samba 4.1.17-debian (NT Domain)
OK, then here's the weird part. I have another server, hosting other files,
lets my Windows 10 system connect. The main server won't though. They are
both running Debian Jessie 8.3, and Samba 4.1.17-debian. Below is the
/etc/samba/smb.conf file *that works with Windows 7 and 10*:

workgroup = SD57

XP Clients joining samba domain.
Hi,
I keep coming across this problem.
Samba is samba 2.2.5
Go to join a winxp box to the domain and it all appears to work fine. When
you restart you can not login because it wasn't done properly.
Here are my obversations from samba.
A) In the logs there is always this

Revert to R 3.2.x code of logicalSubscript in subscript.c?
Currently, in function 'logicalSubscript' in subscript.c, the case of no recycling is handled like the implentation of R function 'which'. It passes through the data only once, but uses more memory. It is since R 3.3.0. For the case of recycling, two passes are done, first to get number of elements in the result.
Also since R 3.3.0, function 'makeSubscript' in subscript.c

A Tribute to my Great Grandmother (Off Topic)
I realize this is off-topic, but I need to post it.
I had to go up to Connecticut on January the 12th quite unexpectedly
because my great-grandmother Ethel, someone I was very close to, died
that morning, at 93 years old. She was an incredible woman. I was
asked to be one of the pallbearers.
Her ultimate goal in life, and one she fulfilled every day, was to
make people laugh. She truly

WinXP reghack wont stick after reboot
I have a handful of machines with all of the latest windows updates,
and the WinXP reghack wont stay.
If I enter the EnablePlainTextPassword reghack, and reboot, all is
fine, until the machine is logged off or rebooted, then it reverts
back to EnablePlainTextPassword=no
Seems to be only affected on machines using Novell 4.83.6 SP1
client... although something else could be the cause.

MSDFS redirection WinXP SP2
I am currently having problems accesing our samba msdfs shares from
Windows XP SP2, Windows 2000 and WinXP SP1 seem unaffected. I have
attached the smb.conf and the exports files that define the shares.
Running ethereal on the different clients seems to point to the fact
that XP SP2 no longer seems to be using the netbios-ssn (139) port. for
GET_DFS_REFERRAL instead its using microsoft-ds
