Auth problem
Linuxbox with Samba 3.0 has been joined Win2k domain with command "net ads join" & "net rpc join". winbindd & smbd & nmbd started successfully without any error messages. I could use "wbinfo -u" & "wbinfo -g" to get domain user/group list. But I cannot use "genent passwd" to get New mapped uid, it only returned local linux accounts.

Must I remove gnome-kerberos-0.3.1-9?
I managed to setup samba3.0 as a win2k domain member, and modified smb.conf & krb5.conf. But when I try kinit administrator@domain, I got an error. --> kinit(v5):KDC has no support for encryption type while getting initial credentials I found gnome-kerberos-0.3.1-9 was shipped with RH9. Did it support all kerberos function Samba3 need? Must I remove it and install MIT or Heimdal

Stumped at "Network Neighbourhood", Samba server is visible, but it's path can't be found ...
Hi all, I can see the RH7.3 linux box I've configured with the latest Redhat RPM samba package in the Windows 2000 network neighbourhood, but when I double click the W2000 computer icon I get the message "\\Linuxbox is not accessible, The network path was not found." The network is a small switched lan, sadly with only one unix box (RH7.3) and a mixture of Windows2000 and 98

Linux box talks to XP Pro, XP Pro permissions denied on LinuxBox
My linux box can see, browse, and copy files from an XP Share. However, when I try to access the box either via its network name (\\linuxbox <file:///\\linuxbox> ) or by ip address (\\192.168.1.231 <file:///\\192.168.1.231> ) Windows shows me an error stating I don't have permissions to access the resource. I have been through the HowTo, and the Troubleshooting section of the

further problems with OpenSSH 2.5.1p1 on RH 6.2
I'm finding another problem with OpenSSH 2.5.1p1 on RH 6.2 (at least, I think it's the linux box that is the problem). I'm ssh'ing to a RH 6.2 box from a Solaris 7 server (scp also... seems like the same problem). I'm using authorized_keys and identity.pub files to do it automagically, and all works well when it's from user to user, where the username is the same, but if

Large (3000+ users) NT to Samba migration
Hi guys and girls, A client of mine is seriously investigating migrating their 7 NT servers and 3000+ users to Linux running Samba. I've read one or two documents so far about the migration, but I'm still a little unclear about a number of things. When you have a chance I'd really appreciate your guidance on the following items. 1.) LDAP, /etc/passwd or MySQL backend (if supported).

two printers: one works ok in w9x/2k, other printer unavailable in Win98 BUT ok in w2k!
Hi all, I try to explain my strange Samba problem: I've done a linuxbox with Mandrake 8.2 distro; installed Samba 2.2 packages and two printers attached via parallel port: one works with the motherboard built-in parallel port, the other is connected via a pci parallel port card. Both works fine on win2000 clients (and on the linuxbox, too :); on windows 98 clients, both printers are

Netbios name resolution with DHCP
I have a network with RH7.2 (netbois name "server"), Mandrake 8.1 ("Linuxbox"), Smoothwall ("Smoothwall"), WinNT ("di-bosco"), Win 98 ("robertw" & "Nicole") x 2 and Win 2k ("DiBosco2k"). Smoothwall is the DHCP server. Why would it be that all the Windows machines can ping to a netbios name, eg ping server, ping Linuxbox

A little help installing on Redhat 7.1
I downloaded samba-2.2.2-20011013.i386.rpm and used "rpm -i samba-2.2.2-20011013.i386.rpm" to install on Redhat 7.1. I got a list of "conflicts with" messages on man pages and samba did not install. Seems Samba-client-2.0.7.36 is installed already. I want this to be a node in a W2K network. Am I approaching this correctly? Should I run the Samba server on NT? Can anyone

Problem with configurable Linux as a PDC with Windows 2000 clients
I was attempting to setup my Linux box as a PDC but have met some problems along the way.... I am using RH8 which carries samba 2.2.5. I have a testbed with 1x Linux box, 1x Windows 2000 Professional (client). I have checked connectivity between the two pcs with a ping from both ends. I followed the instructions suggested by "Samba Unleashed", configuring the smb.conf as follows: ....

Getting share list without password.
Hi. samba-1.9.18p8 using security = user. All the stuff runs good. But I want a cosmetic customization. I want to be able to get the list of shares on the linux box w/out having to fill in a password (same as winBoxes do): smbclient -L linuxbox -U user -N Should not prompt for password. But in fact, it does. I supposed this could be produced by a wrong guest account. I have 'guest account

I''ve gotten wondershaper to work in my linux box, which is part of a 3 computer network that shares the same dsl connection. The linuxbox handles most bulk down and uploading, and the other 2 are mainly for surfing and such. What I need from wiondershaper is that it should perform it''s tasks with all of the traffic to the dsl modem, but do nothing with the internal traffic

I have a small problem. I'm an LDAP newbie, and am having trouble getting Samba to authenticate. What I have is an LDAP tree, with the samba.schema loaded in out LDAP configuration. I already tested smb.conf without ldap-sam compiled in, and it authenticates just fine to smbpasswd and locally added machine trust accounts. Submitted for your assistance: Prelim: 1.
