winpopup
Hi, I have a linux (redhat 6.0) print server and I am running samba 2.0.3-8 serving win95 machines. I would like the print server to send a message to the win95 when a print job is completed. To do that, I run winpopup on win95. However, if win95 users close winpopup, they do not receive any message. Is there any more realiable method to communicate with win95 machines? I would appreciate any

Can anyone suggest a solution?
Thankyou for taking the time to read this ... We have large PC userbase and a not-so-large (but equally loud) Unix user base. We have a requirement to "PopUp" information windows on ALL our user's screens with an absolute minimum of manual intervention (ie type the message once and then forget it). We can manage the Unix X servers but can't seem to find a UNIX application that

Questions on smbclient messaging
I'm running Samba v2.0.5a on a RedHat v6.0 system. This server provides SMB shares to Win98, OS/2 and Linux clients. Everything is running fine with the Win98 and OS/2 clients, but I have a few questions regarding Samba and Linux clients. 1. Is there a way for Linux systems to receive SMB messages? Something analogous to Windows' "WinPopup" or OS/2's "Network

ShowMessage (second attempt)
Surely someone out there knows how to notify their Windows users that access to their samba server is going to be terminated.... Any help will be *greatly* appreciated. ------ Original Message ------- I would like to shut down samba before I begin my backup routine. Before I do this, I would like to send a message to the users who are logged in on their Windows machines, asking them to log

samba will not work for me... :/
I've had this problem since FreeBSD 4.3. This problem continues with my FreeBSD 4.4 machine. I can't connect from my Win98se and Win2kPro machines to my FreeBSD 4.4 Samba server. I've tried it all... but still no luck. I've run smbd and nmbd manually with the "-D" parameter. I can connect internally from my FreeBSD 4.4 box using "./smbclient

Users from trusted domains get "Your Password expires today" in 3.4.3
Hello everyone! We've got a Samba domain that trusts another Samba domain and a Windows Server 2008 domain. We recently upgraded both Samba DCs from 3.0.x to 3.4.3 After that, whenever a user logs on a workstation in the trusting domain with an account from one of the trusted domains, he gets this message: Your Password expires today. Do you want to change it? Of course, the password

DHT translator problem
Hello, I am trying to configure a volume using DHT, however after I mount it, the mount point looks rather strange and when I try to do 'ls' on it I get: ls: /mnt/gtest: Stale NFS file handle I can create files and dirs in the mount point, I can list them but I cant list the mount point itself. Example: the folume is mounted on /mnt/gtest [root at storage2]# ls -l /mnt/ ?---------

Sending / Receiving WinPopup on Ubuntu Linux Workstation
Greetings- Perhaps slightly OT, but still involving the SMB/CIFS protocol: I am searching for an application which would allow a Linux client (Ubuntu) to send/receive WinPopup messages. The only one I have located thus far is LinPopup. However, it depends on the Samba (server) package. I do not want to deploy a bazillion Samba servers! TIA! -- Michael Lueck Lueck Data Systems

samba-tool samba3upgrade question
Hi everyone, I'm looking into using this tool for migration to samba4, however I'm unable to determine if it requires any intervention on the domain members like ADMT does? After looking into the source code I see that the domain SID remains the same. Does this mean that the members (WinXP & 7) will continue to function properly? Will they start using AD membership functionality

Virtual appliance - initial setup
Dear everyone, I'm creating a virtual appliance based on CentOS 6.3 that will be packaged as OVF. Is anyone aware of an existing solution for post-deployment configuration (hostname, network settings and root password as a minimum) other than editing config files by hand - I'd like the process to be more user friendly than that if possible. Ideally it should be

Untrusted domains with security=ads
Hello everyone, Samba 3.6.9 on CentOS 6.4. With "security = ads", winbind doesn't authenticate requests that prepend a not-existent domain to the username. Users that have logged into the domain authenticate transparently to squid with NTLM (format is domain\username), but not users that are logged in locally or into another domain with the same username and password (format is

Win98 client can't connect after Samba upgrade
Hi All, I was running Samba 2.2 as a PDC for a small office server for several years. Hardware was getting old enough I finally bit the bullet and upgraded to Samba 3.3.4 on FreeBSD 7.2 and a new box. The smbpasswd file and all that stuff was copied from the old box. Clients are Win2000 and XP Professional, and for the most part were back up and connected, practically unaware of the switch

samba as client, adding to browse list
Well, I've poked around the documentation without any success... I've got several samba servers running, but I've never been required to deal with Samba as a client on a workstation until now. The workstation is RH 7.2, Samba-common 2.2.1a and it's on a LAN with a 2.2.0 server and a pile of winXX workstations (no NT). KDE is the X environment. I needed to get linpopup going to

Updated Kernel sensors modules
Last week I upgraded my box to CentOS 6 and I'm very impressed so far with it. The only small issue so far is that it doesn't seem to recognize the new Sandy Bridge Core i5 CPU that I have and you can't monitor its temperature. I recompiled the latest coretemp module from the latest 2.6.39 kernel and the latest lm_sensors version however this still wasn't enough as the new module

Loosing Samba Shares Across Segments
I have two Samba servers configure similarly. One shares fine across our entire network and the other only works within its own segment. I have poured over the smb.conf files and cannot see what it preventing the one from crossing segments. These both are Debian 2.2 boxes and I am just modifying the default smb.conf files. I am hoping a fresh pair of eyes will help. Any help would be greatly
