cannot setup print in w2k on debian/samba/winwind/cups server
hi.
I am trying to get print working and have a hard time indeed...
My goal is to replace our nt4 print server with a linux/samba one as we have
problems serving printers and drivers to win2000 workstations (and I don't
want to set up a win2000 server for printing, and have the same problem
_again_ when switching to XP ;-)
The situation so far :
- Debian woody
- Samba 2.2.4-1
- Winbind

I had the same problem It is a cups problem. First install a RAW printer
in CUPS. Second allow cups to receive jobs from a remote host. By
default it doesnot.

Queue Control and Cups
I have also posted this to the CUPS general group, but thought that it was
also a relevant post for this list.
-------
I have samba-2.2.8a on RedHat 7.2. This has been a stable setup for quite
some time, printing works as advertised. However, attempting to control the
queues and print jobs is another story. As an aside, the Linux box is a
domain member that does pass through authentication

Trouble with CUPS/SAMBA
Hi all,
I'm new to this list, as to SAMBA, and I'm
struggling with getting a printer to work
as a shared printer in a Windows network
with a redhat 9 server.
The printer is a HP 4550 Color LaserJet, installed
with CUPS to the server, via JetDirect (port 9100).
It prints testpages fine from the Linux-server. It
was installed with the install-printer-utility in
RedHat9.
I have then shared

Printing not working after upgrading to 3.0.4
I had been running Samba to share my HP printer among my Windows XP clients.
When I upgraded to 3.0.4, I can no longer print. When I start the print job
in Windows XP, the printer lights blinks for a few seconds, and then stops.
No pages come out. The print job is shown as complete in the CUPS web
intrface. Printing from the Linux box works just fine. I read the Samba
pages concerning

Cups issue - keeps re-writing cupsd.conf and mime.types
Hi,
My Centos 4.4 server at home is serving a Samsung SCX-4521F printer,
which the *nix and Win clients connect to through ipp. Every so often
(maybe once a month), the cupsd.conf and mime.types files are updated,
which makes the printer unavailable to the clients.
My fix so far has been to stop cups, overwrite the files with
cupsd.conf.working and mime.types.working (these are backup files of

Samba Cups Windows 98 Raw Printing - need help
Hello -
I am trying to use Samba and Cups to serve a file share and a "raw"
printer to a Windows 98 client. I am using Gentoo Linux, kernel
2.6.12, Samba 3.0.14a, and Cups 1.1.23. I can access the data share
from the Samba server, but the printer share does not show up when I
try to use it, even if I specifically type in the name of the share
(\\data_dog\win98_photosmart) it still

cupsd takes 100% of cpu
I have never been able to get cups to work properly since CentOS 4.x
(and am now on 5.2).
When I try to "service start cups", cupsd immediately starts taking 100%
of the cpu. Attaching strace to it shows no system calls happening. I
have tried uninstalling and reinstalling cups to get fresh config files.
My printers.conf is empty.
This is on a completely updated x86_64 CentOS 5.2

RH9, Samba 2.2.8a and printing with CUPS
Hi there
I just installed the above mentioned system and try to print from a W2k box to the Samba box but nothing happens. There's no problem in printing from the RH box or via Webmin but when I try to print from the W2k box nothing happens. I don't get an error or anything.
I installed the printer by the help of the add printer tool in RH, and simply go to the Printer--->Add

Strange unexplainable CUPS problem after upgrade to 5.10
I manage a bunch of workstations at the Wendell Free Library. They are all
diskless, boot via PXE and mount all of their file systems via NFS from a
server. All of the machines are 32-bit and run CentOS (fully up-to-date
running 5.10). There are two printers with queues managed on the server. The
server 'shares' these printers on the local LAN (eg with all of the
workstations).

Samba Printing
Good Afternoon,
We recently added encrypted smb passwords to our site.
I just tried to add a printer to samba and it will not work.
I tried to connect to \\sambahost\printer and it will not connect.
All the older printers still work. I just wonder if there is an
extra step I need to perform now when I add printers?
Thanks for your time,
Bill

cups / samba job control issue
Hi all,
I am using cups 1.1.22 with samba 2.2.12 along with winbind, and samba
configured as a domain member. For now I'm not able to switch to samba3.
My problem is that users printing from windows are unable to control
their jobs. Pause, resume or cancel do not work. In windows, the
"error processing command" is returned. In cups, when viewing
/var/log/cups/access.log, I'll

Printing from Windows is printing PS commands instead of job!
I've about run out of ideas and need some help.
I have an HP OfficeJet 7110 installed on my Fedora Core 3 box. From
Linux, it prints perfectly, the Test Page works, I can print from
Mozilla/Thunderbird/Firefox, KDE applications, and even Emacs, all
without any issues whatsoever.
The problem is I can't seem to get it to work when I share the printer
to Windows. I've shared it to

Learning SELINUX management, help?
OK, so setup CENTOS-5 on a laptop to learn about Xen stuff.
KDE Desktop, wanted to print the virt.108.com xen howto.
Needed to setup printer first.
Open KDE control center, go to printers.
Hear error sound, message says
"Unable to retrieve the printer list....
Connection to CUPS server failed. ..."
So I check to see that cups is running (it is).
I check /var/log/messages

Desperate plea for help with printer share
Hey Y'all,
I've been trying for months to get samba to share my printer with my
wife's Win XP machine. I've RTFM, and spent hours on google to no avail.
I can't see the printer from Windows so I can't mount it up. Nothing
appears in the logs. The file shares work just fine.
It looks like I've got Samba 3.6.9 on this machine:

samba3.0.23c + cups1.1.23 unexpected pause on some printers
Hi,
I use a Debian Sarge with samba 3.0.23c (from testing) and cups 1.1.23.
For unexpected reason, some printers are sometime stopped (pause), and I
need to start then again.
There is no trace of a "stop" in the log of cups. (and I'm the only one
who can pause them, anyway).
here is an example :
cat 10.lpr.log | grep imp-cao | grep -E "(stop|start)"

Samba 3.0.7+Winbind+Cups 1.1.20: Printing from w2k OK, but cannot delete print jobs
Dear community,
I'am using samba as print server for w2k clients on a debian system:
samba 3.0.7-2
winbind 3.0.7-2
cupsys 1.1.20final+rc
It is possible on the w2k-machines to install printer drivers from samba and to
print via samba to the cups server. Within the cups server all jobs have the
correct username. If I try to delete pending print jobs from w2k
