Users can't map drives after upgrade
Help!
After upgrading to 2.2.3a from 2.2.2, we have a strange problem that's
happening. When users try to map a drive, it asks for the username/password
even though we're using server authenticaiton.
There are lots of messages in the log.<machine name> files complaining
about not being able to open the passwd database

problem with Samba in domain
Hello!
I have a samba fileserver (Debian Woody, Samba 2.2.3a) that I am
trying to join into an NT domain (smbpasswd -j ...); the command says that
it joined the domain successfully.
Then I setup security=domain, workgroup name etc. as outlined in the samba
howtos. However whenever I try to access a share on the Samba server I am
prompted for a password (even though I already logged in through

'passwd chat' for Debian Woody password sync
what is the 'passwd chat' line for Samba 2.2.3a-12.3 on Debian Woody that enables
password synchronisation with Windows 2000 clients in a domain?
I currently have this in smb.conf but it doesn't work:
unix password sync = yes
passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u
passwd chat = *Enter\snew\sUNIX\spassword:* %n\n *Retype\snew\sUNIX\spassword:*

problem configuring smbd for domain authentication
Hello everyone, I am trying to configure a Samba 2.2 server to allow users to mount their home
directories (stored on a UNIX filesystem) from Windows after authenticating against a Windows 2000
Domain Controller.
The Samba server is 2.2.3a compiled with acl support on Solaris 8. I think I am experiencing some (hopefully)
basic configuration issues and can't seem to get it to work. I

Error Joining NT DOMAIN
I'm trying to use the documentation found with Samba-2.2.4 to set up a samba
server under RH linux 7.2 (kernel 2.4.9-21) to join an existing NT domain
for a couple of weeks with no success. I obtained the samba 2.2.4 source
code, compiled with the following options to configure:
--with-winbind --prefix=/usr/local/samba --with-smbwrapper --with-pam --with
-pam_smbpass
After compiling, I

strange Samba - NT4 domain connectivity problem.
Hi all.
I'm having a strange intermittent problem with Samba 2.2.8a losing
connectivity with our PDC and BDC. We are currently having a problem
with our PDC restarting due to a bug check about 2-3 times a month.
When this happens and the PDC is restarted or anytime it is restarted,
we are not able to map shares on any of our 5 servers using samba 2.2.8a
- the fix is to kill smbd and nmbd

Please help with winbind setup
I have been (unsuccessfully) trying to get this up and
running for the past few days. I have successfully
setup samba itself NUMEROUS times but this winbind
stuff has me stumped.
I have built a fresh box for this server using Turbo
Linux server 6.5 and samba 2.2.2. I have followed all
the docs and man pages that i could find.
1. I have samba compiled (using --with-winbind
--with-pam) and

unable to open passdb database.
I found many questions but no answers on the web.
I described my needs in earlier post, but now switched from security =
domain to security = server, and designated the AD domain server as the
password server.
It works as desired, i.e. I don't need smbpasswd any more, and if windows
users change their passwords by ctrl-alt-del, they can later use the new
password without coming to admins.

security=domain problems
Hi all,
We are having some problems getting a solaris 9(sparc) file server
running samba 2.2.2 to authenticate aginst a windows NT 4 PDC. Let me
say first that this was all working at one time, then we had some data
corrumption on our NFS mounted /usr/local, and had to restore from tape.
Due to some issues with solaris ufsdump and ufsrestore, stuff was not
quite put back properly. We do

Authentication error on weekends
Hi
I have a Linux (RH 7.0), and I'he configured on smb server one share to
only one NT user. This user is a tool used for file-transfer from MVS to
Windows using UNC file name convention. How I don't know the user's
password, I using SERVER security on smb.conf to validate the user. The
server that validate the user is the same where file-transfer tool runs.
During the workdays, it

Win2k DC no longer authenticates for Samba shares
I have a win2k domain ... 2 of the client machines are Red Hat (7.3 and
8.0). I set everything up to use the DC to authenticate ID/PW. Everything
worked perfectly until a week or so ago ... Samba would automatically create
a home folder and the whole nine yards. Now I can see the shares on the
Samba machines, but I can't access them ... just prompts for the ID/PW over
and over. I can mount

Samba Issue
We currently have Samba installed on a Solaris 8 server. It is serving
several fileshares. Within the last couple of months we have had an
issue with connecting to the share from the XP desktops. On the same
share it will work fine for a while and then all of a sudden when you
try to mount the share it will ask for an ID and password (it normally
does not). If you try again a few seconds later

Newbie Failure to connect
I'm trying to set up a samba box at home to centralize my family's storage
into one place.
Every time I try to connect to the box I get an incorrect user name or
password dialog and it doesn't matter what I put in but it won't let me
connect. In the log files every time I connect I see something like

Add Machine Failed
I know I am getting tiresome to this list, but I can't see what I am doing
wrong, which is obviously something. I am new to samba as far as setting
it up as a PDC. I am not having trouble accessing sanba shares when I set
my computer to be part of a workgroup, but when I try to configure samba
server as a PDC, i get the following message:

Samba PDC/LDAP Questions
Howdy all...
I am trying to use two different samba servers in a test environment
such that a Win98 SE user logs into his/her workstation,
authenticates/authorizes themself via the PDC, and then mounts a
different samba server to store his/her files. By files I *guess* I mean
profile as this is where I assume that this user's personal files will
end up.
Question 1: Is this assumption that a

WinXP problems accessing Samba shares
I'm having problems accessing Samba shares from my XP Pro machine. Samba
2.2.7 is installed on two Redhat 8.0 machines and configured using SWAT. I
have user level security and encrypted passwords setup. I have a printer
shared on both servers as well as home directories and one restricted access
share. My printers are setup for guest access so all machines will always
be able to print.

troubles with PDC
Hello everybody,
I hope somebody can tell me what is going wrong and how it can be fixed.
To be honest:
I have walked through the test document, and smbd and nmbd seem to work
quite properly.
However this is the case:
Recently one of our smb-servers was suffering from a very bad HD. So I took
another and installed linux on it (Slackware 8.1) and took most of the
config files (among which

winbind wbinfo -t secret is bad
Quick run down of my setup:
NT 4.0 PDC, Samba RedHat 8.0 with samba 2.2.5-10 on it.(Also used RedHat 7.2
with 2.2.6 final as well) with the exact same results.
When I run wbinfo -t, I get Secret is bad 0xc000018b. I have been trying to
figure this out for a few days now and can't get it working correctly. If I
run wbinfo -u, all of the users appears in the list, as well when I run
