Filebench, X4200 and Sun Storagetek 6140
Hi there I''m busy with some tests on the above hardware and will post some scores soon. For those that do _not_ have the above available for tests, I''m open to suggestions on potential configs that I could run for you. Pop me a mail if you want something specific _or_ you have suggestions concerning filebench (varmail) config setup. Cheers This message posted from

testing by building mksh (was Re: RFT: klibc 2.0.5)
Hi Ben, *massive* thanks for picking up klibc work. This might motivate me to pick up some of the TODOs for it that have piled on in my TODO (but only after the freeze, I?m sorry to say, I have more to do for other packages). >And I spotted another test program that has this property (setjmptest setjmp is a good topic? hppa, powerpcspe: call for klibc/mksh testers
Hi, no mailing list for powerpcspe? What?s the progress of your architectures? I don?t see much happening on debian-ports.org, and taking your architectures off that infrastructure hurts others (I?ve ?revived? m68k and kept it running on d-p.o which helps a bit). Anyway: a new klibc (2.0~rc5-1) has been uploaded, and an mksh companion version (40.9.20120518-1) depending on it and trying to use

Hi, after changing mksh to no longer use mkstemp, I decided to try and build mksh-static with klcc on most platforms, in Debian. Here are the results by Debian architecture: alpha (4) fails amd64 works armel works armhf (3) fails i386 works ia64 works m68k (1) workaround mips works mipsel works powerpc (2) fails ppc64 works (!) s390 works s390x works sparc works Architectures not listed either

klibc 1.5.21-1 and mksh
tags 516774 = patch tags 516294 = upstream thanks Hi! Please find attached a diff closing #516774 by adding mkstemp(3), again with a minimalistic pseudo-arc4random(3) behind it. I?ve revisited the code. An mkstemp testsuite from the ?net shows it works, except for not caring how many ?X?en are in the template. Addressing #516294, it allows compiling and linking an mksh from today?s CVS against

Performance Tuning - ZFS, Oracle and T2000
Hi All, We are currently in the process of testing Solaris 10 with ZFS and Oracle and are running it on a T2000. When checking performance statistics on the T2000, we notice that only one thread of the CPU appears to be doing any of the processing. Leaving all other threads seemingly idle. Are there any tuning parameters that need to be set or changed when running Oracle on T2000 using

3510 JBOD ZFS vs 3510 HW RAID
Hi there Is it fair to compare the 2 solutions using Solaris 10 U2 and a commercial database (SAP SD scenario). The cache on the HW raid helps, and the CPU load is less... but the solution costs more and you _might_ not need the performance of the HW RAID. Has anybody with access to these units done a benchmark comparing the performance (and with the pricelist in hand) came to a conclusion.

Request for advice on character set conversions (those damn Excel files, again ...)
Dear list, I have to read a not-so-small bunch of not-so-small Excel files, which seem to have traversed Window 3.1, Windows95 and Windows NT versions of the thing (with maybe a Mac or two thrown in for good measure...). The problem is that 1) I need to read strings, and 2) those strings may have various encodings. In the same sheet of the same file, some cells may be latin1, some

Are CP850.so and CP437 still needed for smbclient 4.0.7 and later
Are CP850.so and CP437 still needed for smbclient 4.0.7 and later? They don't seem to be built in that release !? From what I've gathered, they seem to be for ms-DOS support, and more needed on the server than the client. Please let me know, so we can remove the dependency to deliver the 2 files. - Mike ?

Windows XP Files Disapearing
When I mount a drive via Windows XP and copy a file via Samba, the file appears to be copied. When I refresh the window in Windows Explorer, however, it disappears! When I copy the *same* file a second time, Windows asks me if I want to *replace* the file (as if it were there but I just can't see it). I've attached the Samba drive to my Windows XP machine and I can see the file that I
