Domain unavaliable
First off, I'd like to give all the people involved with the development of Samba a big thanks. I'd have to say that Samba is probably the single most important piece of software that we run in our research lab. I'd also like to say that I have had so few problems that I probably haven't written about one in 3 years. With that being said, I'm having problems with my Samba

User Level Security and PDC
So, I have this Samba PDC setup, and it's gotten to the point where a good number of my Win2K and WinXP boxes refuse to acknowledge that the PDC exists. If I logon to the Win boxes on a local account, and go to the run dialog and type \\mymachine, it prompts me for a username and password. I can then see my shares. If I logoff the local account and try and logon to the domain, I get

How does one change a passwd with Samba
How does a Window's user change thier password on a Unix based Samba server. I know they can login to the unix box and use smbpasswd(8). But these users are MS Windows users and I hate to have to explain what a command prompt looks like. Unfortunately I don't know enough Windows. Is there such a client feature built into the Windows, how do they do it against a PDC? If no solution is

No subject
We are looking for another solution besides Samba, which will allow our application developers using Windows 95/98/NT to access share on our Sun Box running Solaris 2.6 operating systems. Our supervisor feels the Samba installation process is more complex than what we really need. Any suggestions? samba as a PDC
hi, i've compiled Version: 1.9.18-HEAD, with NTDOMAIN, and after many hours of testing/reading/debugging it seems it 'almost works'. So if there is a kind soul out there who can give me a hand in getting it working ... tia, danny -- Daniel Braniss e-mail: danny@cs.huji.ac.il Institute of Computer Science phone: +972 2 658 4385 The Hebrew University Fax: +972 2

Non-root users cannot use smbpasswd
I've searched the archives for an answer to this problem, and yet nothing that works seems to have been posted. I've seen it posted many times In my particular case, I'm running Samba 2.0.6 on Solaris 2.5.1, configured with the --with-smbwrapper, --with-automount, and --with-syslog options. I also have samba set up as a PDC, and that seems to be working fine. A stripped down

Hello, we are trying to upgrade from 2.0.5a to 2.0.6 (under Digital Unix and Windows 95 clients). After the upgrade we get a lot of errors like these: >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Log <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Jan 4 16:18:35 fissio smbd[31799]: [2000/01/04 16:18:35, 0] smbd/service.c:make

Member server only shares locally
Hello In 2 different subnets I have setup 2 identical samba servers (RH 6.5) as fileservers for windows clients. Each is a member of it's own AD Domain (Windows 2003 Servers). The problem: one of them only is accessible and sharing locally. On the windows-client, trying to mount a share gives this error: C:\Users\testuser>net use y: \\samba_server\topfolder /user:testuser System

Samba as a PDC with LDAP and Kerberos
I've been searching and researching this and I can't seem to find the answers I'm looking for. I'd like to setup a Samba PDC that Windows clients will join. The PDC will use an LDAP backend to get authorization information (username, home directory, etc). The authentication portion is handled by an MIT Kerberos KDC. I think I'm real close to having it all together but I'm

NTP and FreeBSD jails
FreeBSD-12.1p7 Samab-4.10.15 running in FreeBSD Jail I just wish to ensure that my conclusion respecting Samba, FreeBSD Jails, and NTP is correct. 1. Unless configured otherwise Windows domain clients will query and obtain their time from the samba_server DC. 2. Samba_server obtains its time from the OS, in this case a FreeBSD Jail. 3. FreeBSD Jails get their time from their host. 4. If

Samba-4.10.13 IPv6 turn it off
I am working on a FreeBSD jail (12.1p4) using samba410. I have joined this service to our existing Samab DC DOMAIN using samba-tool domain join. This worked as far as I can tell. I have these entries in smb4.conf # BOF # Global parameters [global] netbios name = SAMBA-02 realm = BROCKLEY-2016.HARTE-LYNE.CA server role = active directory domain controller workgroup = BROCKLEY-2016

For some reason It's not erroring now, I will look into it more, but I suspect it鈥檚 the settings, the last thing mentioned David > [globa]l section is fine, as long as it's not also set in the share section. So, yeah, that may have fixed im for the time being not getting the sparse errors, for the first time in 4 months, however, there is a couple other problems, so hopefully they

W2KSP2 vs W2KSP2RP1 - failed logon to Samba 2.2.6
Hello, samba. I upgraded samba 2.2.5 to samba 2.2.6 in Debian 3.0. Both versions was built myself by script "rules binary". Before: Our network have a few of W2KSP2.rus and a few of W2KSP2RP1.rus. All workstations can logon to samba 2.2.5. After: W2KSP2.rus can't login to samba 2.2.6, though W2KSP2RP1.rus still can logon to PDC on samba 2.2.6. W2KSP2 tells me, that it can not find
