Swen virus and spam appears to be coming from Samba list
Shortly after I subscribed to this Samba list I started receiving numerous emails infected with the Swen/Gibe worm. Many of these emails contained the email addresses of Samba list members. I believe a subscriber of the Samba list has the Swen virus. Has anyone else on this list been getting emails infected with the Swen/Gibe worm? Please update your virus definitions and do a virus scan just to

How to tell if option "with-acl-support" is compiledinSolaris smbd?
Do I need any additional package installed in Solaris 9 before I compile Samba "with-acl-support"? Re: samba Digest, Vol 9, Issue 41
I've been getting a lot of messages with attachments on this list, but I haven't opened any of the e-mails to see if the attachments were legitimate. I also started getting tons of "MS Security...", "Microsoft", etc. e-mails with attachments which I have not opened either (especially figuring that the "Microsoft" e-mail contains a virus, although our filter

can I use CentOS as a antivirus / spam filter / HTTP AV gateway?
Hi all I've been thinking about using CentOS on a Dell R200 server and turn it into a firewall / network monitor / traffic shaper in our datacentre, instead of using a dedicated firewall device. One of the devices that I have been looking at, with my limited budget, is the D-Link DFL 860 - http://www.netdefend.eu/Product.aspx?m=15&ref=DFL-860 It provides AV, SPI, VPN, DOS, P2P, etc

SPAM
Dear Samba and Linux list users - Several people have commented on the volume of spam reaching the list. Andrew (the list maintainer, I am but a lowly assistant) has been advised of your comments and will take action if he thinks it's necessary. People wishing to make further comment should do so directly to the list admins and NOT, repeat NOT to the list itself! My thanks to those list

security
I have a user who was having problem accessing samba. So I suggested him to try to login from other system to see if it's problem with his pc or his account. Then he found that when he used other person's PC, it didn't ask for password at all and gave full access to his account! The two person's accounts are totally different. Any idea? Thanks. --

secrets.tbd going corrupt on powerfailure?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 We're power failing a unit before it goes into production, and we've noticed that every time we fail it during a data transfer, smbd loses the domain connection. I've traced it down to the secrets.tdb file. After a power failure, tdbdump secrets.tdb says: { key = "SECRETS/SID/IN28C29E" data =

Receptionist
Hi, Quick question. With an old phone system a receptionist receiving a call has 1 button to push to transfer calls to a specific extension, with Asterisk, a receptionist would actually put the caller on hold, pick up another line, call the extension, ask if the person is available, hang up pick up the caller again and transfer. To me it's seems a long way to simply do a receptionist

SOLARIS_2.6: request_oplock_break
I saw a little discussion about this a few weeks ago but nothing concrete. We're running samba-1.9.18p8 under Solaris 2.6x86. Just a thought, all this "swen" stuff, this list
It seems anyone posting to this list gets a deluge (and I mean a deluge) of virus infected windows garbage. It's basically enough to ruin any email address you sign up to the list with; it doesn't matter if you have a virus scanner integrated with your MTA, I really don't want to see 200 virus notifications a day because i posted to this list. I have been getting about 20MB of swen a

Hi ! Today i deleted more then 60(!) spam-messages on this list I think it would be a good idea, to limit the possible senders of this list to the addresses which are subscribed. Login script doesn't run - Solved
I hate being stupid. Here is the answer: This won't work: [global] logon script = %U.bat # Win9x needs this This will work: [global] # Win9x needs this logon script = %U.bat The comment has to be on it's own line.
