AFS thru Samba 3.0
Hi folks,
I've ran many circles about this topic, read tons of documents. But have
not found a working solution. Here is the scenario:
There is a network contains around 350+ nodes, mixed Win98 and Win2k.
There are four mars_nwe servers they use. We'd like to migrate that 4
servers into an AFS cell and offer it thru Samba which should be acting as
a PDC. So far it seems not too

domain member server problems
Hi folks,
A friend of mine has one samba PDC and about ten member server around this
PDC. The only problem he has that he has to add the new users on every
member server instead of main them only on the PDC. So how can get member
servers synchronized. He uses samba password authentication. I think using
ldap could be the ultimate solution. I'm wondering your opinion.
thanks., Sandor

AFS via Samba compile problem
Hi folks,
I'd like to compile samba-3.0.1pre1 --with-afs to reach my afs filesystem
thru samba. Maybe it's not samba related bug but I hope if somebody can
help me.

PDC+LDAP+Win2k/XP domain logon
Hi,
I successfully installed samba 3.0.1pre4 from cvs tree with ldap-2.0.27.
I can log in with administrator but can't get my machines (win2k and XP)
joined into the domain.
Here are some relevant part of the log file.

strange printing problem
Hi folks,
First of all I have a well-working samba-2.2.2-20011013 on a Redhat 7.1
with 2.4.7.
(Fast like a thunder 8-). Good job guys!) But. I have a little problem
with printing:
At my work we have only NT 4.0 workstations on our LAN with sp6a or sp5.
This problem is appearing when a client try to print onto a printer
attached to samba.
Sometimes. But sometimes not.

I can only presume some form of precedence overrides the group configuration
in the recent asterisk installs and not for the servers set up earlier.

duplicated lines in serverloop.c? (openssh252p2)
Hi,
I was looking through the source, and I noticed that the following
code appears twice in the file serverloop.c. Is it supposed to, and
if not, would there be any ill effect?

How to delete NON-EMPTY directories through a Samba share?
Hi all,
I have setup a Samba server as file and print server. Everything works
perfectly, I can print, I can write, delete files through Samba. But, the
only thing that does not work is to delete a NON-EMPTY directory. No error
message received, just don't want to delete it. As soon as I delete all
files from the directory, then the directory can be deleted too. The problem
is recursive for

For us AIXers ...
... who are nervous because:
(a) it seems that there will be a widely-known vulnerability
and/exploit for OpenSSH available in the coming days, and
(b) the advertised fix for the problem, privilege separation, doesn't
seem to be working on AIX as of the latest release version of OpenSSH
(based on the comments I've read; I haven't tried it yet) ...
... what should we do? I've

Problems with the tty's in openssh + AIX
Hi everybody.
I posted this also to comp.sec...ssh, so excuse me for multiple emails.
I downloaded openssh-3.5p1 and compiled under AIX.
Now,
if I run that program, Sandor W. Sklar in bugzilla #124 suggested (see
below),
it works in linux, not in AIX 5.1.
in AIX it produces the same "hang" as the original problems Ihave with
"tclsh"-command. sshd hangs with this output:

charset problem with smbmount
Hi!
I have a test file with all special characters of hungarian language on a
windows share: ??????????????????.txt
(I hope Your mailer wiill show them correctly :-))
When I use smbclient to connect to share, I see correct characters, I can
get the file to local disk and ls shows the correct name too.
When I try to mount with smbmount the closest result I produced was:

chrooting/jailing transfer-only accounts
Folks,
I've been tasked to find a solution that will create
file-transfer-only accounts that are jailed or chrooted to a specific
directory. (Not an uncommon task, I think.)
Using the OpenSSH server and the OpenSSH scp client program, I can
achieve the goal of having a file transfer only account jailed to a
specified directory, by using the "scpjail" script (attached) as a

Vectorize linear autoregression with variable coefficients
This might be obvious to some, but I can't find a neat way to do it:
Say I have two (very long) numerical vectors a & b of the same length
representing variable coefficients of a linear autoregression.
I want to calculate vector x defined by
x[1] <- b[1]
for (n in 2:length(a)) x[n] <- a[n]*x[n-1] + b[n]
Is there a way to do this vectorially, i.e. without using the 'for'

Scriptaculous: Move not as smooth as other effects?
I''ve been experimenting with the scriptaculous library for a while
now, trying to figure out how to stretch the DHTML/AJAX idea to its
limits :) It works quite well, and sometimes even great. Cool stuff!
One thing has me puzzled, though. Why is it that certain effects do
not perform the same all the time? Many of the other Effects are
pretty smooth all the time, like Grow/Shrink or

ssh/sshd_config option confusion ...
Hello,
The item that causes me the most difficulty in deploying OpenSSH (and
the commercial ssh, as well) is confusion over the large number of
options for the configuration file; while the man page gives an
explanation of each one, they are listed alphabetically there, with
no "logical" grouping.
For my own use, I've created a heavily annotated sample sshd_config
file,
