Question About Samba PDC/NIS/2k
We are currently running Samba in a security=share mode, I would like to
switch this to have samba be a PDC and use domain authentication.
Anyone out there combined the following successfully?
Linux Redhat 7.x NIS master and PDC, using NIS as authentication
for PDC/Windows?
I have seen several things on just having an samba PDC but I would like to
keep using our NIS as it's used for many

Samba 2.2.3a + Win 2K
I'm new to the list, so at the begining I'd like to say Hello to all of You.
I'm using Samba 2.2.3a and rather cannot upgrade it to new version. I want
to set up sambafax (http://www.purpel3.com/sambafax/ ) tool to allow my
windows users to send fax.
Actually my smb.conf looks like this:
security = share
guest ok = true
guest account = test
[printers]
comment = All Printers

remote windows management
I keep hoping for better wasy to remotely manage windows machines
through samba.
In the very old samba-tng there was an rpcclient that could connect to
a remote machine and do various things like read/write the registry,
grab event logs, etc. I could never get it to work very well and
waited for a better one.
The trouble is the rpcclient program in samba-current doesn't have
these features.

active directory pains
After googling a bit, it seems that only way samba playes with active
directory is with samba 3.x
I'f been use samba 2.x with 'pass through' authentication and would
like to get rid of the pass through auth cause it seems to cause
problems. Yet, I don't know if I can trust samba 3 --
Has anyone been able to get a samba 2.x server to join a an Active
Directory domain?

MAPPING one NT GROUP with 2 unix group
I have one problem with the mapping Unix group with NT group
I have 3 unix group and I want that two group are mapped with nt group
"Domain Users" and one with "domain Admins"
For the domain admins there aren't problem but for mapping two unix group
with the same nt group.
I have the necessity that 2 or plus group unix is mapped with the nt group
domain user.

DUX UX in smbpasswd??
hallo list,
samba 2.x + SuSE 7.3 working as PDC in NT/W2K-Network:
in the smbpasswd the account flags are set to U, DU, W. But a few
accounts have an added X like UX or DUX. The man page describes only
flags D, U, W and N. what does the X mean or can it be deleted. Anybody
else with this appearance,

'multi-layered' authentication
I need to allow [read] access to a Samba server using both IP filtering &
UserIDs .
For a given list of IP subnets, any user should have access.
Outside these 'trusted' subnets, I need to do User authentication.
I can handle the User authentication OK in several ways.
However, I don't see any way to do the 'short circuit' allow for some IPs,
then use User authentication

Moving SAMBA PDC to another machine.
I am sorry if this has been covered before, my searches have found
variations in results.
I am using a Redhat 9 build with the Samba 2.2.7a RPM from Redhat. I am
planning to move all of the services from this machine to another Redhat 9
machine. It will take the IP address and hostname of the original machine.
What I need to make sure is if I simply backup the files in /etc/samba

This helped me a little bit forward. I suggest to add this line also to
samba-pdc help.
But still I ran into problems.
I fixed the passdb lines on PDC and BDC. If the second server (on PDC

CIFS Session transfer
Hi All,
I would like to know if this is possible and if possible what is the
complexity.
Consider a CIFS client, SAMBA Server1 and Samba Server2.
Say a session is established between a CIFS client and SAMBA server1. Is it
possible for the SAMBA server1 to transfer/redirect/reestablish the
connection to SAMBA server2 without the CIFS client knowing about this? The
session between the CIFS

Encrypting File System (EFS) on share
Hello,
Looking to use Windows to encrypt contents redirected to folders on
a member server. It looks like I will need to designate the remote
server as trusted for delegation. Is this currently supported by Samba
4.3.x? I plan to follow these two documents to achieve this. Thanks.

SUCCESS report: samba3 as single-sign-on provider in heterogeneous network
Hi all,
to raise the bug vs success ratio i'd like to express my gratitude to all
samba members and those who, though not in-core developers, generously
supported noobs like me on this mail list.
I've set up an environment two months ago and it has run without glitches or
tweaks since then. Now as misusing my family as beta testers has worked out
so nicely i will deploy an identical

Comments / suggestions wanted - Winbind, 2K, and user Homes
I have a single AD domain with 4 domain controllers (win2k-not native mode). I want all
users to login to AD (clients from 98 to XP - no linux clients yet).
This is a school network with 4 campuses connected by wireless links (hence the 4 domain
controllers) and I would like to put a samba server at each location for student home
directories (basically a NAS setup to start with). There will

IPC connections and utmp
Hi,
I am running Samba version 2.2.5 with utmp turned on. I have a problem with
utmp and not displaying who is currently logged in. The basic idea is that
even though a user has logged off the computer (win2k pro) a connection to
IPC$ remains. It gives this.

Access to shares for authenticated domain users only
I am running several samba servers (2.2.3a and 2.2.7) in various places as
pdcs. Everything seems to be running smoothly, but I can't find any way of
restricting access to only those uses who have logged on to the domain. Is
this possible? ie at the moment, any user can map a drive to \\server\share,
put in a valid user/password pair and have access to that share without

reversing domain and user name?
I can get authentication to work on linux 7.1 with samba 3.0alpha15 if I
make valid users = @"INS+Domain Users", but if I try to set valid users to
just a single user:
valid users = INS+DavidSha, it fails to give me access. I see the following
in log.winbindd. It looks like it is looking for a domain called
DavidSha?!? My winbindd separator is +. Can somebody please respond to
this.

must change password flag doesn't reset ?
Hi
I've searched the archives but did not spot this particular issue there.
Config. RH8, Samba 3.0.2a. Auth via smbpasswd.
I have a small office network where one of the accounts has had there
password expire and resetting the password just went round in loops.
I've tried removing the password synching from smb.conf and removing the
user from smbpasswd and re-creating their account
