re: cannot map ntgroup to ldap group-fixed
ok, i noticed the gid of ldap group "users" was 539, but the one it was migrated from in /etc/group was 100, so I changed the gid and everything seems to work now? but why should it care that the gid is the same as it's /etc/group counterpart? --- On Tue 01/27, John H. < mrmailer@myway.com > wrote: From: John H. Time to straighten out groupmap
I need to clean up the groupmap setup - samba 3.0.0 / ldapsam Although I'm spitting out a fair amount of information, I'm going to concentrate on the Administrators entry which appears twice, this doesn't seem good... # net groupmap list Administrators (S-1-5-21-1292501092-333717336-619646970-544) -> root Backup Operators (S-1-5-21-1292501092-333717336-619646970-551) -> bin

Samba as a PDC with LDAP and Kerberos
I've been searching and researching this and I can't seem to find the answers I'm looking for. I'd like to setup a Samba PDC that Windows clients will join. The PDC will use an LDAP backend to get authorization information (username, home directory, etc). The authentication portion is handled by an MIT Kerberos KDC. I think I'm real close to having it all together but I'm

Problem with public shares
Hello! I'm running Samba 3.0.0 with Openldap 2.1.22. Samba is my PDC and I'm using ldapsam as backend. Nearly everythings works, but I have a public share [tmp] which should be accessible without authentication from all clients even if they are no domain members. I think, my share definition is o.k. in smb.conf but if I click on the Samba server symbol on a client (Microsoft Windows

Samba 3 PDC with ldapsam and login problem
Hi, <foreword> I am about to set up Samba 3.0.14a on Linux as PDC wit LDAP backend for our faculty. However, first tries have only partly been successful. First I added samba LDAP-Schema attributes to existing account, created their Samba passwords with smbpasswd and it worked so that normal users could log in via the windows network neighborhood and use the shares. But, I couldn't

Cannot set a "Domain group" membership with ldapSAM
Hello everybody! I should have an error on the LDAP entries of my ldapSAM, but I've read several times chapters 11 & 12 of the Samba HOWTO Collection and I cannot fix it. Let's explain: I've got a StandAlone fileserver (not PDC) samba-3.0.4 with ldapSAM working on a RedHat Enterprise 3.0 (linux kernel 2.4.25). The directory server version shouldn't be important, but

Nested Groups
Hi all, I'm not able to create localgroups as described in "docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/groupmapping.html" I have tested Samba 3.2.5 and 3.2.6 on Debian lenny. As usual I am using openldap as backend. First I have tested with smbldap-tools, then I have switched to ldapsam:editposix = yes ldapsam:trusted = yes and removed all the script entries from smb.conf.

LDAP Group mapping
I noticed that after I moved from tdbsam to ldapsam for my passdb backend, the group mappings had disappeared. After reading the docs, I found that this information is stored in LDAP (makes sense). The problem is the HOWTO Collection only says that it is the administrators responsibility to store this information in LDAP, but says nothing about how. A search on the internet found that you must

LDAP backend and sambaGroupType for builtin groups
Hi, I have a question about sambaGroupType attribute on a Samba 3.2 PDC with LDAP backend (and nss_ldap + nss_winbind). What should be the value for Administrators builtin group ? If i use smbldap-populate from smbldap-tools, the value of sambaGroupType is 5 (and the LDAP entry for this group is a posixGroup and a sambaGroupMapping). I've also noticed that "wbinfo -g" doesn't
