SAMBA: winbind ID's disappearing
http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2005-October/113181.html
This sounds exactly like what I'm experiencing... for the second time. I'm
starting to think it happens whenever the AD folks create a new domain in the
forest. (we just added our asia pacific region a couple days ago)
Did you ever figure out what's happening? How did you resolve the issue?
I remember last time I had

F&P Off Proof Of Concept
I work for a multi-billion dollar international organization currently using
Novell technology for F&P/Directory/etc...
A project has just arisen to develop several potential replacement proofs of
concept. Several solutions are being evaluated, including:
* Microsoft CIFS
* Some NAS device using AD or eDirectory
* Linux/Samba
I was chosen as part of the Linux/Samba team and I'd like to

Re: using LVM thin pool LVs as a storage for libvirt guest
Do you have some comparasion of IO performance on thin pool vs. qcow2
file on fs?
In my case each VM would have its own thin volume. I just want to
overcommit disk-space.

Freenas domU network performance issue
Hi guys,
I''m running a freenas domU (FreeBSD 8.3 based, ZFS v28, 2 vcpus mapped to
the same HT capable core) to serve storage for all purpose including other
domUs running on the same host. I did some study to understand how well it
works and the result is kind of confusing.
In summary, the network performance between domains on the same host is
worse than expected. And NFS service to

2 PDC's on same Network
Hi,
I'm looking to replace our existing Samba 2.X.X PDC with version 3.0.20. I would like to configure and test the new PDC with our existing ldap server on our network. Is it possible to have two working PDC's running on the same network at the same time. Will the new PDC cause any problems with the existing PDC and user logins?

Question on PDC's and BDC's
Morning everyone.
I have a question about something i've been thinking about lately.
I recently rolled out a samba server running 2.2.8a with OpenLDAP 2.0.27 on
the backend to hold the user account info.
My question is, how many people out there are running samba as their PDC
and have implemented a BDC as well? I'm starting to consider about putting
up a BDC for safeties sake.

Could you install Exchange on a Samba PDC's network?
Could you install Exchange on a Samba PDC's network?
What would happen if you tried to run /domainprep?
Could Exchange interact with a LDAP backend?
Would this be some sort of NT4/W2K mixed-mode directory services setup?

Two PDC's conflict
Hi All,
I am currently running two PDC's with different domain names on
the same network. But after a day of smooth running I am starting to
have problems with the users accessing the network resources with an
error message. As far I understand there must not be such conflict with
the Samba PDC's with different domain names on the same subnet. Can any
one suggest what might

RE: PDC's on same Network (Golden Butler)
You can have as many PDC's on a network with same subnet as you like keeping
in mind they must have different domain names - ie workgroup =

Auto finding PDC's
Damn,
My current new code (password server = "*") auto
finds the PDC's, but then fails to connect for the domain
authentication as I don't have the right "called name" (ie.
the NetBIOS name of the PDC), just the IP address.
Still working on the feature...... I have some ideas.

Jeremy Allison,

using LVM thin pool LVs as a storage for libvirt guest
Hello,
as usual, I'm few years behind trends so I have learned about LVM thin
volumes recently and I especially like that your volumes can be "sparse"
- that you can have 1TB thin volume on 250GB VG/thin pool.
Is it somehow possible to use that with libvirt?
I have found this post from 2014:
https://www.redhat.com/archives/libvirt-users/2014-August/msg00010.html

interdomain trust between two samba pdc's
I have been trying off and on for some time now to get an interdomain trust
relationship going between two samba pdc machines (DomainA=trusted &
DomainB=trusting). Both pdc's are running on Solaris boxes and NIS is
involved (I doubt there is a NIS complication just because I can use
accounts on DomainA on DomainB's samba, as long as I add them using
smbpasswd manually).
The situation

two PDC's on same machine in same subnet
By now we had running samba as PDC and fileserver for about 20
NT4-clients with roaming profiles.
Now we start migrating NT4-clients to XP-clients and as I found out
roaming userprofiles between XP and NT4 is not possible (NT4->XP
works, but not vice versa).
So I just thought about cloning all the profiles (docs and mails are
not in the profiles so only bookmarks, adressbook and

Three reasons for staying with Microsoft PDC's
There appear to be significant hurdles to migrating from a Microsoft to
Samba PDC environment, something which I've been trying to do now for many
months. The difficulties arise in moving user's accounts over to Samba
1. Local profiles. It does not seem to be possible to move from an NT4 PDC
to a Samba PDC while retaining local profiles. NT4/W2k machines consider
logons to the Samba PDC

FreeBSD 9.1-RC1 Available...
The first release candidate of the 9.1-RELEASE release cycle is now
available on the FTP servers for amd64, i386, and powerpc64. The
MD5/SHA256 checksums are at the bottom of this message. The ISO images
and, for architectures that support it, the memory stick images are
