Can winbind solve this problem...
>From a linux box, I mount a native NT share (mount -t smbfs -o<options, etc. etc>). I want to be able to do an 'ls -l' in that share and have the owner/group information show the right thing. Currently, no matter what the ACLs on the file on the NT side, from linux, an 'ls -l' shows 'root' as the owner/group. I was expecting winbind to work similar to ypbind in

Samba 3.0.0-2 WINS Static entries
Hi, I'm trying to add static entries to the wins.dat file, as per The Official Samba 3 How-to guide but can't get it to work. If I add entries and just leave it be, the server responds with unknown host and If I restart nmbd it removes all the entries (static) that I manually added. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug ? Brett

Linux box WINS client ONLY
Hi there, I would appreciate some help on the following problem: I am trying to set up Samba on a Linux box to get the only functionality of WINS name resolution as a client. I especially do NOT want to participate in the browsing process. I would like this box to be as invisible as possible regarding to NetBIOS. Here is my smb.conf file: ---- START smb.conf [global] workgroup = WHATEVER

Two nmbd processes on 2.2.6
Hello, I have downloaded and compiled 2.2.6 to replace my 2.2.6pre. I spent a large part of the day debugging the startup script because it seemed to always be starting two nmbd processes instead of one. Eventually I tried running just /usr/local/samba/bin/nmbd - and still got two nmbd processes. Is this correct behaviour? On the first server (Dell 4600) I thought it might be because it has

Win98 / smbmount problem
I mount my win98 laptop directory on my linux box using: smbmount //sushi/doug -c "mount /home/deck/sushi -u deck -g deck -f 644" This works great so long as I don't ever leave the house. If I take the laptop away and then reconnect it, I can neither use the directory /home/deck/sushi (I get "input/output error") Nor can I unmout it or remount it. (I get "cannot

nmbd time-out with WINS server
Hi, Problem: When our network has any glitches causing a network time-out for more than a few minutes, our samba servers lose their connectivity with our WINS server even after the network is restored. This causes the WINS server to tombstone the name registration for the samba server(s), thereby causing clients to not connect through the browser. SMB connections are not affected so the

smbmount, error=-3
I recently added a Linux box to a formerly all-Windows network, and one of the first things I wanted to get working was file sharing between my Win98 laptop and the Linux box. I got Linux to see the laptop via smbmount, and finally found how to get this to happen every time the Linux machine restarted. But (seemingly every time I turn the laptop off) the smbmount fails. Attempts to ls the mounted
