CentOS 5 Beta Dual Boot Problem
To test CentOS 5, I loaded from DVD adding it to a system at home running Fedora Core 7 T2. Partition Layout is: /dev/hda1 - / for the RH7T2 system /dev/hda2 - /home /dev/hda3 - swap /dev/hda4 - extended /dev/hda5 - / for CentOS 5 The system loaded cleanly and gave me the opportunity to tell grub about the other system. CentOS boots fine. Grub Stage 2 will show me both systems.

2.4.14 + latest patch != ext3 support
Hello, I just need a little clarification regarding applying the ext3 patch to the latest kernel. I have 2.4.7-10 that came with RH 7.2. I have ext3 running. I need to upgrade those (to get some USB device working). So I got the latest kernel, 2.4.14, patched it with the ext3-2.4-0.9.15-2414 patch, picked ext3 from 'make xconfig', built the kernel, but the new stuff in /boot, etc.,

Reg: Difference between chroot & pivot_root
Hi, What is the difference between chroot & pivot_root. They don't seem obvious based on the man pages apart from the below mentioned caveats. 1) Inherited Open file descriptors, have to be explicitly closed. 2) Does not change CWD of the process, which can be overcome by doing a chdir before & after chroot call. Any information on this would be useful. Thanks,

Reg: Workaround to use pivot_root while using "rootfs" for "/" ?
Hi All, I am trying to start a lxc container using libvirt and I am facing an issue due to pivot_root. The return code from the system call ?pivot_root? is EINVAL (Invalid arguments). I isolated the issue to this specific condition check within the system call. This is an code snippet from fs/namespace.c::pivot_root * error = -EINVAL; if (root.mnt->mnt_root != root.dentry)

only pivot_root supported? [signed]
Hi, I hope this is the right list for initramfs questions. First I noticed: with initrd I can use real-root-device and pivot_root mechanisms. with initramfs only pivot_root works. My init (or linuxrc) scripts end like this: mount -t xfs -n -o ro /dev/mapper/root /new-root umount -n /sys || true umount -n /dev || true umount -n /proc || true cd /new-root pivot_root . initrd exec chroot .

HTB problems
Hello, I have HTB on IMQ device. My rate does not work as I configured. I configured 1920kbit/s and I can download only about 290kbit/s (while it should be the whole bandwidth). My script: /sbin/modprobe imq numdevs=1 /usr/local/sbin/tc qdisc del dev imq0 root 2> /dev/null > /dev/null /usr/local/sbin/tc qdisc del dev imq0 ingress 2> /dev/null > /dev/null /sbin/ifconfig imq0 down

RH7.2 journal creation
Stephen et al, You may remember me raising the point that the new e2fsprogs (1.25 as I remember) griped about old journals not having all the appropriate fields zeroed. I've just discovered that the RH 7.2 installer produces journals (ie on partitions created as ext3 from within the installer) that flag these warnings with a modified 1.25 e2fsck (the mods being to clear the errors rather

rh7.2 starts wine in runlevel 3!
installing the wine rpm that comes with red hat 7.2 works -- unless you switch to runlevel 3! Then the wine startup script runs, and fails. Since wine depends on X, it should only run in runlevel 5! - Dan

Could not load 'USER.DLL' (RH7.2)
I find that I can't run 16-bit apps because of a problem with user.dll. Here is an example. [john]$ wine /mnt/C/Win31/cardfile.exe err:module:BUILTIN_LoadModule loaded .so but dll user.dll still not found Could not load 'USER.DLL' required by 'CARDFILE', error=2 Terminated A 32-bit app (such as notepad.exe) does work though, other than some minor issues related to fonts.
