Re-setting the Archive Bit
Hello, I am using Brighstor to backup my Linux machines using shares at the moment as I cannot get the agents to work (neither can CA). This would work fine if the Backup program could re-set the archive bit (Linux file owner execute setting). The problem is that, when accessing the share from a Windows machine, I cannot re-set the archive bit under any combination of permissions, unless the

Archive bit oddities
Hello everyone, I've been scouring the web, reading documentation and experimenting with settings and I am having no luck in getting the behavior of the archive bit to be anywhere near expected. I have the file foo.txt in the personal folder that has the ADS group DOMAIN USERS with read/write capability (660). When the user jsmith (domain user) modifies the file, the archive bit is not

More on the archive bit saga
Thanks to all that have helped so far. I now have a test server running on Ubuntu 6.06 and Samba 3.0.22. I also configured ACL and user_xattr on the filesystem running the shares. But now I have very strange behavior that I hope someone has a clue about. User smith can open two files (foo.txt and faa.txt) with Notepad, Wordpad and Microsoft Word. The behavior for all three is different:

AW: Samba versus Dreamweaver
Finally... :-) """ dos filetimes = yes dos filetime resolution = yes dos filemode = yes fake directory create times = yes inherit permissions = Yes """ ...has done the trick! Permissons were all set correctly before (Samba and FS) but this lines helped me out. It's a little slower than before (?) but it doesn't matter if only it works for more than one

winbind is loosing domain prefix
Hi, we're using the SerNet-release of samba 3.0.7 running on SLES8. Our samba server is running as domain member server (security=ADS) in our w2k domain. On monday we migrated from 3.0.4 to 3.0.7. Since then winbind is trying to relsolve usernames without the domain-prefex and fails. See below: log.winbindd: ... [2004/09/22 06:54:24, 1] nsswitch/winbindd_user.c:winbindd_getpwnam(159)

Access across routers
Greetings, I have an interesting situation where SAMBA servers that are across various routers are requiring the fully qualified domain name. Example: \\xyx.nrl.navy.mil. If our SAMBA server is local (behind the same router as our client), then the \\xyx name will work fine.... This allows you to connect, but if you are browsing the network neighborhood, and you double click on the \\xyx when

I have 3.2.7 as part of an Openfiler install. I have a homes share setup, but when I view any other users home share (\\server\otherusername) I see the contents of my own home share. I have the server joined to AD with winbind, and I am in a group that is listed as the owner of the other users home share, with rwx. What I am trying to do is allow a domain group access to all of the home shares via

Hello, We are trying to add a 2nd samba server to our domain. We are using an NT 4.0 PDC and connecting to the PDC using winbind. Our network is relatively small - 25 computers. We have no Active Directory servers, no WINS servers, and the existing samba server running 3.0.11 has been running for 18 months with no issues. We are completely stuck trying to add a second server. We've
