XP share - permission denied only after downloading - please help!
I just upgraded Samba to 2.2.2 and it's still happening. I have a
Windows XP Pro machine as my desktop and a Linux machine as my
gateway/firewall. The XP machine (which is connected directly to
the gateway thru cat5) has a few shared directories which I can
successfully mount on my Linux machine. However, when I download a
file on a XP shared dir and try to move/copy the file from the

Samba 3.0b3 PDC - XP user descriptions
Hi all. I have (another) little question about XP and Samba 3.0b3 acting as
PDC.
When I press CTRL+ALT+DEL in my XP Client I see the message:
",,, has started session as BOOGERSOFT\Boogerman"
(BOOGERSOFT is my domain, and Boogerman is my username).
I also see the ",,," in the top of XP's start menu (when using XP's
startmenu instead of the "classic" start

Filenames apparently truncated when acessing Samba share from XP.
Hi List,
This one is puzzling me. I suspect it is largely due to a badly-behaved
installer, but I would appreciate any help. I'm so puzzled, I'm not even
sure how to explain the problem, but here goes...
I have a Samba 3.0.1 system on AIX 5.2, which a number of XP users connect to,
in order to access an application installed there. The upgrade installer for
said application is causing

windows xp connect to share - cannot change user name from guest
Hi
We've been using samba at my work for ages. Now we have a couple of WInXP
machines. We do not have a domain or anything, the samba server is just
set to user level access control. We log in to windows using the same
username as our account on the samba server. Samba and the windows clients
are set to use unencrypted (plain text) passwords.
The problem is that when we connect to the samba

Syntax of Math Text
I am looking for a reference that describes the syntax for putting
mathematical text on a plot. I managed to discover some of the syntax in the
manual pages for "text", "title", and "legend". In particular, I am looking
for the syntax for making subscripts. I did not have much luck searching the
S-news archives and http://stat.ethz.ch/R/manual/.
Thank you,

User access to [homes] share
Hello,
I have a client who would like to share out the user's home directories.
This is simple enough. The caveat, though, is that he, as himself or root,
would like to be able to look into the other user's directories. This would
not be a privacy issue, as the client is a professor, and the students will
be uploading their work to the server. Does anyone have any idea how to
allow a user

from the slackware security update. I can access my xp box with no
problems from my linux box but I cannot access my linux box from my xp

have much insight into my problem, someone recommended trying to post my
problem here.
I have gotten

Problem with disabled user name and password fields in login dialogue on Windows XP SP2
Hello,
We are having some problems with logging on to several Windows XP Pro SP2
clients at several different sites running Samba 3.0.10 as domain server.
The situation is that the "User name" and "Password" fields in the "Log On
to Windows" window are greyed out on the Windows XP clients. The third
field, "Log on to", where you can choose between the

can't connect to a samba share with Windows XP
Hi all,
I am having problems with using XP Pro to connect to a samba share.
All I get from XP are repated dialogs asking for my username and password.
My linux box has been joined to the local windows domain.
I am using encrypted passwords and the security level is set to user.
If I set the log level to 10 I can see that LM and NT4 MD password checks failed on the challenge
returned by the XP

Windows XP truncating last share name?
Hi folks,
We have a Samba 3 PDC domain (with an LDAP backend) configured
pretty much as described on "Samba 3 by Example"
for Windows XP clients.
Some XP machines are presenting errors when editing files wich reside on
a samba shared folder. The user accesses the share and opens de desired
file. When trying to save it the file name turns blue (that is, windows

Windows XP & greyed-out Guest user password prompt
Hi, we've been using Samba for a while, and are just now starting to
switch our desktop computers to Windows XP. We are having a problem
where connections to our Samba server fail, and the user is presented
with a password prompt asking for a password for user Guest. They can't
select a different user.
I've searched the Microsoft knowledgebase, and the Samba list archives,

XP: Access denied to printer share but it still works
I know this has been posted recently, but a trip to the archives didn't help
me.
I have windowsXP printing to my samba server. It works, but I get the
annoying access denied message on the printer share. There is a security
setting to change on XP to prevent this, but, I can' remember what it is.
Any insight appreciated.
