2.2.8a newbie path problem
Hi I'm presently installing 2.2.8a on Mandrake 9.1 I'm a newbie to Linux as well as Samba, so it's been fun... When I first installed Linux I installed Samba from the discs (2.2.7a), but on reading up on the subject it became clear that I should give installing the source a go. My problem is this - I don't think I have rerouted all of the paths to usr/local/samba from what

SeBackupPrivilege
We're using Samba 3.0.21a-1 on a CentOS 4.2 server (kernel 2.6.9-22.0.2.ELsmp); everything works more or less fine, it's functioning as the PDC with an OpenLDAP back end (setup essentially straight from the Idealx.org playbook), etc. We're trying to mount Windows shares to back them up, and getting "permission denied" errors when trying to read certain files from those

Output and Word
Hi I have just started to have a look at R. I have used most stats software packages and can use perl, visual basic etc. I am interested in how well it handles lots of output e.g. tables or charts. How would you get lots of output most easily and quickly into a Word document? Sharon Snowdon ------------------------------------------------------------------------ - FIGHT BACK AGAINST SPAM!

Can I STOP decoding at an exact sample?
Hi guys, Thanks Matt for your prompt response about the C++ problem, its working great now! Again for my "virtual cdplayer", I am wondering if its possible to stop decoding within a large file, at the end of an exact sample? ie. I wish to play a song in the middle of a flac'd cd. Using the file decoder, I can seek to the start of the track(index 01 of the cds TOC), but I then want

Need installation help of SAMBA on UNIX Sun- Solaris version 8 platform
Dear Mr. Andrew Tridgell, I am new to samba. I understood that it allows you to share the files from Microsoft windows env. and UNIX environment. I need to install the software on my UNIX machine. Do I need the license? I downloaded the following file. samba-latest.tar.gz I copied to UNIX env. and gunzip and tar to extract all the files. Is this correct step? I will appreciate, if

File permission
How are file permissions determined under Samba? If I log onto my Linux server (terminal session using Putty) and create a file that file is given the following file permissions (rw- rw- r--). That is correct, because in my home directory I have a .bashrc file that has a umask command that states umask 002. However, when I use Samba to log onto my Linux server and use Word/Excel to create a file

Archiving CDs w/ Flac on Unix (and subsequent re-encoding)
On a related note, are there any tools which can read the Index information from a CD and preserve these in some file for later recreation? The actual TOC on a CD has very little information: just the Absolute Start Time of each Track. Is there any documentation of the "TOC" file format that is commonly used? I do not recall coming across anything. Obviously, I am also

Samba / Networking trouble since latest windows update
This is not really a Samba problem, but it does relate to Samba, in a fashion... In regards to: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/?url=/technet/security/bulleti n/MS04-004.asp Since the latest security patch from Microsoft (last Thursday?) was applied to common desktop machines within our school we have been suffering from problems with network connections. hosts allow / hosts deny (CIDRs?)
Just a trivial question... Do the hosts allow and hosts deny clauses (i.e. within smb.conf) support the use of IPv4 CIDR notation (e.g. A.B.C.D/maskbits) ? The specific documentation page I was looking at, i.e.: https://www.samba.org/samba/docs/using_samba/ch06.html was rather entirely ambiguous on this one small point. When describing the interfaces clause, it says explicitly that CIDRs
