I was told this may be specific to ldap setup with samba 3.0.0, but is fixed in later versions of samba.
however, in 3.0.1, there is a far worse bug that makes machines only available some of the time(i was told

samba3/ldap/net groupmap fails
hi,
we recently upgraded from samba 2.2.8a w/ldap to samba3 w/ldap and
having troubles with domain group mappings.
first symptom is that net groupmap list returns nothing.
[root@lola root]# net groupmap list
[root@lola root]#
if we try to add a groupmapping, the command fails:
net groupmap add sid=<sid-gid> ntgroup="Domain Admins" unixgroup=domadm

I turned on debug level 10 (by adding -d 10 to the net command), and I

Regarding net groupmap
Well, my Samba 3.0.4 is joined to a w2k AD and works fairly well so far,
as it's not in a production environment yet. I am now testing it for
such a release and have encountered a permission problem. Unless I
chmod -R 777 the Samba share directroy, users can only read files on the
share, including the ADS users in Domain Admins. Reading the Samba
online manual, I figured the groupmap

Still having groupmap problems
I have two samba servers on two separate subnets that are comprising a
single domain, and one of the samba servers is also the LDAP server.
I've gotten everything configured except that I can't use the groupmap
command. When I run:
net groupmap add sid=<SID>-512 ntgroup="Domain Admins"
unixgroup=dom_admin type=domain
I get this error over and over again (and

net groupmap failures
OK all, really going nuts here. wbinfo -u/-g works, pulls up the W2k
users/groups. Net ads join works just fine. Created the krb5.keytab
file on the w2k machine and kutil copy this to /etc/krb5.keytab. kinit
administrator works fine. However, all net groupmap commands fail.
Here's an example:
fskkweb# net groupmap add unixgroup=admin ntgroup="Domain Admins"

LDAP: strange "net groupmap" behaviour
Dear Sirs,
I did the following command (against ldapsam backend):
net groupmap add rid=3002 unixgroup=wheel type=local ntgroup=Marketoids
comment=Mm -d 10
I just wanted to add new group. But instead of that I saw many-many-many
records:
lib/smbldap.c:smbldap_search(963)
passdb/pdb_ldap.c:ldapsam_getgroup(2008)
they all wanted to find group with gidNumber=4294967295, yes, sure,

samba 3.0.0 Authentication with NTsp4
We have been running Samba 2.2.x for some time without problems.
Servers are Solaris 2.7 and RH Linux.
Clients are a mix of WinNTsp4 and Win2K.
Server setting is for plaintext (un-encryted passwords).
On upgrading the Samba server to 3.0.0, (smb.conf file unchanged):
All WinNt clients fail to authenticare.
Win2k clients authenticate correctly.
On reverting back to Samba 2.2.x, all cleints

crypt password authenticate method (passdb or pam)?
Hi,
I'm trying to put my samba to authenticate users into a mysql database.
I've started to use passdb and I did mapped the main fields and also did
some change at pdb_sql.c code to match my needs.
Well, the problem is that I can't found a way to use crypt passwords
with mysql using pdb_mysql, actually the type of passwords I'm allowed
to use are "plain password",

3.0 alpha23 ldapsam/group mapping issue
I just moved from using samba 2.2.5 using ldapsam on a mac os x server
10.2.5 system to samba 3.0 alpha23. I have this samba server acting as a
PDC. I would like to enable group mappings but am having an issue.
This is the first group mapping error I get when a user first logs in:

Samba will not start
Hi,
Right after I run "vampire" (net rpc vampire -S gia42c-1 -U Administrator)
command, samba would no longer start.
The samba server was installed on Gentoo linux and running behind a
firewall. The PDC which is Windows NT 4 server is on different subnet with
no firewall. Please check the log and smb.conf below and see if there's
anything I can do to make "samba"
