Samba3+Win9x userlist, Bug?!
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Dear List,
Few days ago I've posted, that my Win9x boxes are unable to get the list
of domain users and groups from samba-3.0.0 server (for details see bug
596). Unfortunately the same is true for samba-3.0.1pre1.
Please people also having win9x boxes and Samba3 PDC confirm that it is
a bug, or a configuration error.
Thanks for any suggestion.

samba 3.0 doesn't lock Word files!!
Dear All ,
I am re-posting after a couple of weeks the following issue related to
MS Word and Samba 3.0 hoping that this time somebody could help me
unlock the mystery. I have installed Samba 3.0 rpm on RH 9 and cannot
get past an elementary file lock issue such as opening a file through MS
WORD by multiple users from different MS workstations (w2k, XP,W98, etc)
in concurrent sessions. Nobody

smbd is running!
After uninstalling VMware, smbd is running!
It seems that installing VMware has side-effects on Samba.
Thanks to everyone who sent me suggestions.

PDC+BDC+Filereplication_How?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Hi all,
Sorry for this general question, but I'd like to hear your opinion on
this subject, but I'd like to set up a really working backup solution
for my PDC, currently it uses NFS, so there are lots of issues: No ACLs,
When NFS server goes down, everything fails.
What method would you recommend for replicating folders, keeping
existing ACLs

PDC and concurrent logins
Hello!
I am using samba running as a PDC at our school. I have read many docs and
howtos but I can't find anything about Concurrent logins. I would be a
nice feature becouse I don't want my users to login more than one time. Is
there anyone that does have a clue?

in winXP workstation these

Help: How to save a domain policy on Samba 3.0.0
I use 'User Manger for Domain' on a NT4 member server to access the
SAMof the Samba 3.0.0 PDC. It retrieves all the user and group accounts
perfectly. Then I click 'Policies' ----> 'User Right', allow the group
'Account Operator' to 'add workstations to domain', it allows me to
click through 'OK', but it doesn't save the policy.

Dumb Question about Domains and PDC's
Dumb Question...
What is the value of a Domain in a small Samba-server environment? Why is
it better than a "security = user"?
What are the drawbacks of a Domain in a small (singleserver even)
environment?
Thanks!

no user management tool
hi,
AFAIK there is not any usable user management tool for samba 3 with ldap
(except the command line and ldif import). I seach for any useable
stuff. the alternatives are directory admin (but this requires linux and
X) currently not support samba 3 ldap schema and it seems to won't be in
the near future (although Andrew Bartlett would like to help, but it
seems nothing happend). the

Group sharing between NT and Linux domains
I need a little better information regarding the mapping of groups
between an NT PDC and a SAMBA PDC, which trust each other.
On the NT machine is a group called "ntgreen." On the Linux box (running
RH9 with Samba 3.0), there is a group called "lxgreen".
I've done a: net groupmap add ntgroup=ntgreen unixgroup=lxgreen. The
mapping shows up in a net groupmap list.

group policies, domain policies and workstation policies without Active Directory??
I have the following situation: a network with 30 Windows NT Server on
different sites, 800 clients with Windows XP; I want to migrate to Samba
instead of Windows 2003 Server, but I have the effort to manage group
policies, domain policies and workstation policies on the XP Clients;
is there a way to solve this without Active Directory e.g. Samba with
LDAP??

XP home edition and Home share
I can't get the XP home edition on my network to accept "net use H: /home".
It works on my Win2000 box. I am running samba 2.2.5
Is this a limitation on the home edition? Is there a work round?
The command
net user %username% /DOMAIN
for a valid username does return data which includes the path to the home
share, so I can't see why it should not work.
