hi all, we want to use samba to connect a windows machine and a linux server, the linux machine should read the windows-filesystem to backup it. in samba 2.xx we wasn't able to teach samba the german umlauts or filenames containing a blank. we tried the character substitution in smb.conf and of course we called smbmount with iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=cp850, but unforunatly it doesn't

German Umlaut issue on uNSLUnged Linksys with Samba3
[sorry for my maybe newbie Qs and using this group for my busybox issue but though having visited some forums about this I'm getting nuts] I unslugged a Linksys NSLU2 device with V2.3R63-uNSLUng-6.8-beta as I plan to use it as a DC replacement for my W2k server at home. But I already got stuck before this. Following the unslinging I installed the Samba3 IPKGs for the NSLU guided by the hints

codepage-conversion for smbclient
Hi list, I've browsed through the archives, but I didn't find a answer for this: I use smbclient to access a windowsNT 4.0 server. I get only '?' for filenames which contains Umlauts. F.e., a file called "Verkn?pfung" is displayed as "Verkn?pfung". I use following mount-string: mount.smbfs //SERVER/Share /home/xxx -o rw noexec nosuid nodev user codepage

Problem with umlaut on windows server
Hallo Samba-users, I've got a problem mounting a windows-share via mount / smbmount: The mount itself works without any problem, but when I try to enter a directory with a Umlaut (such as "?,?,?") the command fails. All the umlauts are replaced with a question mark when I "ls" in the directory which contains the directory with the umlaut. Changing the character set

Transferring a dataset from WINXP to Mac - problems with umlauts
Dear R-Help, is it possible to correctly display umlauts in a dataset, which has been created under WINXP, on a Mac-system? This is the problem: I have imported a German MS-Access database into R 2.14.1 by using RODBC on a WINXP-System. It runs with a Latin-1 encoding (codepage 1252). However, most of the work is done with a Mac (UTF-8 encoding) and the R-dataset has been transferred to the MAC.

Problems with German umlauts
Hi, I'm running samba-1.9.18p4 on Solaris with Win95-Clients. In general this works fine. My Problem: When a file or directory name on the server contains German umlauts, these characters show up different on the client. (It works well on the solarnet clients via NFS) I've tried character set = ISO8859-1 as well as client code page = 850 (that's what my client uses, which is

German codepage and Samba3.0alpha20
Hi there, Greetings from Vienna :) About 2 weeks ago I tried - waiting anxiously for group mapping support which isn't available yet on the 2.2.x versions and won't ever be - the 3.0a20 version. Everything fine, I could join the domain as non-root member of the windows "domain admins" group, could assign local power user privilege to domain users as expected (with

factor levels with umlauts
Hi all I have to generate some test data for import in an sql database. The database is meant for web-based data entry in a study taking place in a german speaking region, so factor levels of the variables include umlauts. The variables in the dataframe t.muster are generated e.g. like this: t.muster$screening <- rep("ausgef?llt",50) and exported to a .csv file by:

Sourcing files with Umlaut in path no longer works
Dear helpeRs, on my new machine - Windows 7 64Bit, R 2.15-2, I can no longer source files for which the path contains the o-Umlaut (?). As a historical burden, my username is Gr?mping and contains that Umlaut (I wouldn't have chosen it now, but decided to keep it for easy transfer). I have had the difficulty that I couldn't use the R CMD tools on files with Umlauts in the path (and

Problem with sieve and german umlauts
Dear list, I?m running a postfix (2.5.6) / Dovecot (1.1.11) on a Centos 5.2 box. I?ve written a small gui application to simply create Out of Office replys with sieve. The resulting code did work with maildrop without any problems. Now sieve fails when it meets any german umlauts like ? or ?. It just stops compiling the scripts and complains about the missing "};". A simple fix is

No umlauts in filenames
My samba setup cannot handle files whose names contain german umlauts (????). The server is samba 2.2.8a-1 on Redhat 8.0 (from the binary RPM from the samba site), the client is running WinXP Home Edition. When I create a file whose filename contains umlauts on the samba share from the WinXP machine, the filename is displayed with question marks instead of the umlauts by ls on the linux machine,

How to replace German umlauts in strings?
Dear R-users, I have a file containing names of German students. These names contain the characters "?", "?" or "?" (German umlauts). I use read.table() to read the file and let's assume the table is then stored in a variable called "data". The names are then contained in the first column, i.e. data[,1]. Now if I simply display the variable

Problems with German umlauts and vorbiscomment
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, as I said before on this list I use the vorbiscomment utility in my music file management perl script and I've just noticed that it has huge problems with German umlauts. "ö", for example, becomes "ö", which is QUITE annoying. In xmms, the tags are displayed correctly, though. I'm using the newest libraries and
