netbios name resolution stops working after device change
Hi there. This is with regards to samba-3.0.23c, on FreeBSD 6.0-RELEASE-p12 Previously I had Samba up and running without any problems. Then I decided to do a tiny upgrade by simply switching to a new motherboard, while keeping all other hardware and software aspects the same. However, after the upgrade, netbios name resolution seems to have stopped working somehow. \\servername lookups no

How are Browse lists maintained for Multiple Domains?
Hi, I have read all I can find about browsing (BROWSING.txt, BROWSING-Config.txt, SWAT pages, etc. There are many discussions on the precise dynamics involved in Local Master Browsers synchronising with a Domain Master Browser (in a cross-subnet environment). I am trying to understand the mechanism that is used when there are Multiple Domains on the same network, and how the Browse List is

Frustrated with browsing, domains, and network logins ...
I'm trying to get cross-network browsing/domain logins working. In brief, I am very frustrated. We thought the initial problem was a browsing problem, but now it does not appear to be that. Even once the workstation can see the servers, it STILL cannot perform a Domain login, although it CAN access resources if I use the Ms Dos prompt and issue a 'net use ...' command. This

Looking up Netbios name of host
Hi- Ok, this is puzzling me. I have two machines on different networks running Samba 1.9.18p10. On one machine, which is running Redhat 5.1, I can do "nmblookup -A <IP ADDRESS>" and get the IP address of a host on the LAN. This network also has an NT server domain controller, but I doubt that matters in this case, since I'm querying the machine directly. The second machine

2.0.7pre2: multihomed_register_name error
rh61, 2.2.14. The problem is in 2.0.6 also. 1st samba is wins server. 2nd samba uses the 1st samba as wins server. All is ok, but if I use interfaces = eth0 127.0.0.1 bind interfaces only = yes (is there anything wrong in the above lines?) in the 2nd samba, then I get the following in the log.nmb of the 2nd samba: [2000/03/29 15:45:30, 1] nmbd/nmbd.c:main(743) Netbios nameserver version

name server problems: tcpdump shows "tcp port netbios-ssn unreachable"
Ahh, many sleepless nights spent on a stinky Windows 98 box! I'm using Samba 2.2.0 with Red Hat Linux 7.1, and am having trouble resolving the samba server. I went through the "fault tree" in the "Using Samba" book, and this was the section I got stuck on. Do I need to be running a name server besides nmbd? nmblookup returns some results: ----------8<----------

simple cross-network browsing setup is failing
PROBLEM: Cross-subnet browsing is not working. Browse lists on all machines contain only the machines on the local subnet. SUMMARY OF ANALYSIS: The Local Master Browser (LMB) running Windows XP (ZAYIN) never contacts the Domain Master Browser (DMB) running Samba (BETH) to initiate a synchronization of browse lists.

Netbios over VPN
I am attempting to utilize BackupPC on a Fedora 14 server to backup a remote client. As I understand, it's primary mechanism for finding clients is performing a nmblookup <clientname> This works fine for computers connected to the local network. My issue is extending ?Samba's? search to encompass our other network - the point-to-point VPNs Using OpenVPN, we have a number of road

nmblookup works by IP but not netbios name.
Hello list, The issue is as the topic says, following are details: the Samba server running as ADS member, NBT enabled on Windows machines, no WINS. Windows machines can find each other by 'nbtstat -a' but cannot find the Samba server. The Samba server can't find neither Windows machines nor itself by 'nmblookup -a <netbios-name>', error message is "could not open
