Upgrading Samba
I have a fairly old Samba server, 3.0.25, on CentOS 4.8. I'd like to update it to something more modern, so I grabbed the "Enterprise Samba" 3.5 RPMs for RHEL, and went to work on a test machine. After upgrading via "rpm -U ./*.rpm", starting nmbd and smbd, I can no longer log in to the domain, I get: netlogon_creds_server_check failed. Rejecting auth request from client

smbpasswd or tdbsam? Which one?
All, I have a site with around 200 concurrent users, with a user count of over a thousand... I'm currently using just one PDC using the smbpasswd backend. I currently do not want to go into an LDAP backend... but would tdbsam be a better alternative? One of the issues I have is, pretty randomly, I have some machines that cannot find the domain controller (dell wireless card utility tells you

Samba as PDC with XP Client - Logon requires reboot - Help Please
Hi, I'm running the latest version of Samba with a tdbsam backend, configured not to use roaming profiles. Two different XP clients (SP2) are joined to the domain ok but users can only logon by rebooting before entering their logon details. When users logoff and try to logon again (or logon as a different user on the same machine) they get the standard message 'windows cannot connect to

Joining a Samba 3 domain repost
Sorry still unable to find documentation Hello I have set up a Samba 3 PDC on RHEL4 using the tdbsam backed. I can log in as a user who has been added to the tdbsam database from a workstation. When I try to add the workstation to the domain (after breaking user connections to the server) I get "The following error occurred while trying to joining the domain xyz.com. Access denied. I

clarify issues on joining Samba PDC, machines, RIDs,
I'm running into issues trying to configure a server to be a Samba PDC in a small network that contains only Win2k/XP workstations. This will be going into an environment where there are no Windows server. There is a pre-existing Samba server that will be replaced, but it'll be easier to recreate user accounts than attempt migration (there were no machine accounts). Due to

pam_smbpass.so passdb.tdb support
Hi, Recently I have installed samba 3.4.8 on my device. Since then ftp (vsftp, proftpd) which is taking users from samba database with pam_smbpass.so is not working. After enabling detailed log I have noticed it is looking for the passwords in smbpasswd (/etc/samba/private) which is of zero size . I think all users passwd are located in passwd.tdb.I could fix this by giving "passdb

Stuck with Test 3 of Diagnosis... Please Help..
Hello everybody, I need your advice with the following: I've just installed RedHat Linux 6.1, and configured Samba 2.0.5a. This is not my first time installing samba; I've installed it several times before, always on Linux, so I decided to configure it out of the box, so my scenario is: + On the Linux side, I can mount a NT share using smbmount, and copy files. No problems. + On the NT

How to regenerate passdb.tdb
Hi, I was having problem with the tdbsam backend in which a particular user got listed twice with pdbedit. (http://www.mail-archive.com/samba at lists.samba.org/msg109110.html) Without much hope in fixing it, I am planning to re-generating passdb.tdb on my PDC by: (1)exporting tdbsam to smbpasswd backend (2)delete passdb.tdb (3)re-import smbpasswd to tdbsam backend With the command `

tdbsam.
The documentation says "As a general guide, the Samba Team does not recommend using the tdbsam backend for sites that have 250 or more users". Since we moved default passbd backend to tdbsam, does that statements still holds true. As an FYI, I am using Samba-3.2.4, idmap_rid with tdbsam as backend for about 3 years with 2000 users on member server configuration authenticating AD 2003.

Samba3-beta1 as a PDC and using tdbsam as passdb backend it takes the home-directory info from /etc/passwd
I didn't get any answers so I try again: I am using tdbsam as passdb backand. I have added root user with pdbedit. The machine trust account was added on the fly. I have added the user with pdbedit. I have created the user in /etc/passwd. When the user logs in from a W2k and mounts the home-directory I noticed that Samba didn't take the home-directory information from tdbsam, it

Migration from LDAP to tdbsam
I need to migrate from samba w/LDAP 2.2.8a to 3.0.1pre3 with tdbsam. Any suggestions how to keep from having to change all the profiles? I have read through chapter 30 of the HOWTO but it assumes keeping the same backend. I need support to munge_dial and that is not available without mysql or tdbsam.... Thanks in advance for your help. Sean
