Can't configure a WINS server
Hi, I'm trying to configure samba-1.9.18p8 to act as a wins server, to be able to browse between the two networks here at work (192.9.200.x and 193.127.209.x). Calix, the server, has one eth on each network, and has the wins support = yes. (No, it has no wins server = xxx line :)) It's been several days trying to make it work, and, with a debug level of 2 and 3 I've seen something

machine accounts
Well I thank everybody that helped me get swat working. I am very thankful. Now, though, it seems I have more problems. When I try to join my samba domain, my XP box says "a domain controller for the domain edith could not be contacted." Okay, well, after reading up on things in this list, it seems that I need to create a machine account. I didn't have to on my NT box. When I

domain administrator
Well, I got my shares problem figured out. I am glad. However, now, I need to do remote installs of my norton antivirus. I can't do it from my machine without being an administrator on these machines. I am not an administrator when logged in as anything. I even set up a account for root, with no success. How do you make a user a domain administrator?

Joining XP clients to a Samba PDC
Greetings, I've been pulling my hair out on this problem for several days and I'm not really any closer to a solution. I hope someone out there can help me. I'm trying to set up a samba PDC on a Fedora Core 2 box using an LDAP backend (on another server). The base install of everything is working fine. At the unix level LDAP connectivity is configured and working properly for

XP not joining domain
Hi I have a small problem with joining a XP box to a Samba domain, which I hope that someone can put some light on. The setup: Samba 3.0.4 using ldap for users. All users are created with both posix and samba accounts. Users can login with ssh (pam/nss), smbclient and net use \\pdc\share /USER:username (also from XP pro). W2k workstations can join the domain. When I try to join a XP (pro)

Pxelinux 2.09 limitations
Hi all, I've just found a small bug this morning. My pxelinux.cfg contains 65 entries. The last one is never usable by pxelinux.0. It sounds like the number of entries is managed on 6 bits :) Is there a reason for that ? Is it possible to have a bugfix for that ? PxeLinux and Itanium
Your PxeLinux is really a good product and contains really good features (i.e memdisk). But PxeLinux is a very low level program, contains assembly code and seems to no be portable to Itanium architectures. Does a version of PxeLinux planned for Itanium architecture ? PS:On my configuration, option pxelinux.reboottime (code 211) you give in your documentation removes my "default router"

MBA protection needed (quite off topic)
Hi all, I'm new to this mailing list but I'm using this product since I'm in charge of making a clustering distribution using PXE of course. Yesterday night I was fighting with a problem of WakeOnLan (off topic). Everything is working now but my PXE ROM (MBA on 3com products) should be started for having the Wake On Lan feature working. If a run a Linux, shut it down, thisWakeOnLan

Memdisk 2.09 with -Os optimisation
I've been recompiling syslinux 2.09 and with my gcc 3.3.2, I must use the -O1 option instead of -Os. After compiling with -Os, the linker says "undefined reference to `memcmp'" My gcc specialist told me that this error was due to a too long inline of memcmp(). I've tryied my memdisk compiled in O1, the size is really quite the same and it works fine. So I will keep memdisk

Position of boot.cat
I've found with one of my collegue a strange "bug" when I'm using isolinux. I know that we are using a modified isolinux 1.76 but I'd like to know if some of you knows the reason of this. We've found that if boot.cat is located at position 740 or 569 (isoinfo -i) the cdrom is not detected are bootable on some drives whereas it works on some others. We've checked

Here come a screenshot of a devel release, what do you think of such tool ? http://people.mandrakesoft.com/~aginies/drakpxe2.jpg PS: Some options are dedicated to the Mandrakelinux installer but the assistant could be used for some generic configuration. -- Erwan Velu Linux Cluster Distribution Project Manager

Setting up Samba-LDAP for 3.0a on Mandrake 9.1
I could use some help figureing out what specifically the differences are between Samba 3.0a and 2.2.X in regards to LDAP. Partucularly when it comes to the schemata. After I've got it figured out I will see that the MandrakeSecure HOWTOs are updated to include this info to help Mandrake users who want to try a Samba 3.0 DC. Note that as yet the beta version is not available in an RPM

restricing port forwarding ports server-side
I'm curious as to whether or not there is a way to restrict forwarded ports server side. For instance, I'm running an IRC server and am allowing users to connect via ssh forwarding (so I can take advantange of using openssh's public key method for authentication). Each client I tell to setup their ~/.ssh/config in a certain way, but the relevant line is: LocalForward 6667

pks for openssh
I was directed to the following site by one of our customers regarding a keyserver built into openssh. There's a patch for 3.4p1 on their site, but the license isn't very clear, nor is it clear if they have approached the openssh team regarding the inclusion of this subsystem into openssh proper. I've been asked to patch Mandrake's openssh with this feature, but I'm

SAS to R migration questions
Hi, I'd like to get away from SAS, but I don't really know R well enough at this point to know if it would be good for this project. I tried to describe the essence of the project below without getting bogged down in details. It starts when I receive a data flat file. There's lots of columns, but the relevant ones are: custid (customer ID number) saledt (date of sale)
