Question about new Samba 3 rc4 and BDC
I have looked a bit through some of the archives for this list, and I have
caught different ideas on this matter.. I've also read through the
HOWTOs on how to do this stuff, but I haven't received the same results
that I was expecting, so I need someone to help me out a bit, give me a
definite YES or NO and if YES, how?
I have the latest release candidate of samba 3 installed on redhat-9.

Help: can't get winbindd working ?
Could anyone give me some hint on how to get winbindd working ?
I have added the following to smb.conf , called smbpasswd to join the
domain
and got security=domain working.
security = domain
encrypt passwords = yes
workgroup = MYDOMAIN
password server = x.x.x.x
But when I try to use winbindd, even if I followed the man page
instruction and did the following:

Samba running as PDC and BDC
I am in the process of investigating whether it's viable to replace our NT
server domain with a linux server domain using SAMBA. The key is if Samba
can act as a PDC, with other Samba BDCs in remote locations. Is this
possible?

Samba 3.0 is WORKING
I would just like to give a success report, since this list gets mostly
bugs and questions..
Due mainly to the help that this list provided, I am now able to
successfully deploy Linux/Samba servers in our corporate domain, and allow
remote offices to function as part of our vast windows domain. Things are
working, and the $$$ it has saved us is almost unmeasurable.
Again, thanks for your help,

FreeBSD and Winbind
I'm hoping this is an easy question, but the way my day has gone I
seriously doubt it is going to be.
Today, I installed Samba 3.0.24 with winbind support on my FreeBSD 6.2
server. I am able to join my domain and get information concerning groups
and passwords from the domain controller (Windows 2003) without any
problem.
Where I have run into a problem is using getent to get a copy of the

Using Samba 4.7.4 as a domain member
Hi!
I've installed samba 4.7.4 with options. All works fine except winbind. The
command getent and id don't return ad users. What's the problem?
./configure --prefix=/opt/samba --libdir=/lib64 --with-piddir=/run/samba
--with-pammodulesdir=/lib64/security --enable-fhs --without-ad-dc

I'm not sure what I'm missing but I've almost spent the whole day trying to
resolve this one and haven't made any progress :-(
Any help or suggestions are appreciated

I would appreciate it if you can change the host value in the

again by restarting the server, since the error occurs whenever I restart
the server.
However, If I change the host value which is *hosts: * in the

everything runs perfectly, when the alignment of

I'm trying to set up a new fileshare, to replace an aging NT4 machine we've

I'd like to run Linux (RedHat 7.3) on the machine.
Basically, I'm trying to create a fileshare "files" that people can
transparently log in to from NT4 and Windows 2000 workstations. My boss has
approved the use of Linux for the server, but only if I can make it
