2.2.5, xp and incorrect logon drive as root
Hi @all,
I set up 2.2.5 as PDC. With an XP-Client and log on as an simular user
as root (I'm mapping "Administrator" to root in /etc/user.map) the
logon home directory is the share "root". What is the reason for that?
Is "root" a not usable name for a share?

2.2.3a - buggy homedir mapping with profiles for 9x/winxp
Hi @all,
I'm using version 2.2.3a (because the patch for printingproblems in
2.2.4 is not working for me) as a PDC for Win9x- and WinXP-Clients. I
want to set up different profile directories for Win9x and WinXP. This
seemed not a problem with
logon home = \\%N\%U\profile_9x_me
logon path = \\%N\%U\profile_nt_xp
I have a client with Win98 and WinXP on it. If I log on first with
WinXP and

Hi,
samba 3.0.9 cannot expand %f anymore:

Here's a working samba.conf
Since everyone seems to only post problems to this list, I thought that I would try and post a number of solutions at once.
This is my working samba configuration file (minus key indentyfying information). It may not be perfect, but it is as close as I have been able to get it to perfect, and that is after working with samba for a few years. This configuration has my server setup as a PDC (with

My NT box can't find the samba server
Hi,
I have installed samba-2.0.0 on Digital Unix 4.0d. Now other unix boxs and
Win98 clients can find the samba server. But my nt box can't find it. When
issued the "net view \\hostname" (the hostname is where the samba server
is on), I got the following error message:
" System error 53 has occurred.
The network path was not found.
"
Can you give any hints on this?

I thought I had this configured correctly, but it stopped working when
I rebooted the other day. I looked through the archives and tried all
the stuff that looked relevent, but to no avail.
I have a redhat 6.0 server running samba-2.0.3, and a bunch of
windows98 clients. I'm trying to serve a shared directory with
basicly /tmp permissions and my printers.

I want to build samba-4.10.0 for SUSE openLeap 15.1. Config and make

problems with oplocks = false in 2.0 beta version
Hi Everybody,
I seem to still be having problems with the caching of files on the
PC. I have tried to set the oplocks = false variable in the smb.conf
file but that has not seemed to help. Here is what I do to see the problem
Open a file on the PC, the close it.
Go to a unix machine and modify the file.
Go back to the PC and re-open the file. I will get the old copy of

Huge delays on login/first access from WinXP clients on samba 3.0.4 PDC
Hi *,
after upgrade from 2.2.8a to 3.0.4, I'm suffering from ~10 min. delays on
login/first access of a share from a WinXPpro client to a samba 3.0.4 PDC
