samba 3.0 with ldap / sambaSID
Hello,
I'm lloking for a way to convert my company's existing samba2.2 ldap
backed service to samba 3.0. What's particulary making me curious is the
sambaSID. As I've read it is the unique identifier of a PDC in the
windows world. So, how does samba3 generate this? Is it supposed to be
changed by the admin or is it determined by samba on the first startup?
Any pointer to a doc

Mapping Linux Shares To Windows
Hello,
I have managed to install Samba V. 2.5 on a Red Hat Linux 8.0 box and my Windows clients can see the shares and read/write
appropriately.
How do i map these shares so that they appear as e.g. Drive F: or Drive Z: under Windows Explorer. In a Win2K network , i understand
that we have to write logon scripts and use the net command. But this network ( which consists of 1 linux box and 3

Hey how is it going.
I can't seem to access the latest patch for 2.4.14 from the website @

Can someone send me the file (by email) or have a mirror/site where I can
download from.
Thanks
ps -
I know the purpose of the mailing list is not this, but this is my last
resort. I really need to try ext3 on my laptop.

getting kernel version and cvs version in sync
Hello,
what is the state of the onion with the ext3 support in the upcoming 2.4.15? I don't think it will be on the current cvs level (due to linus accept policy :). So, will there be patches to place a current kernel on the cvs state?

ext3 problem with loop devices?
Hello,
it seems I am having a problem with loop mounting on ext3. I am doing
this:
- make an ext2 filesystem in a file
- loop mount this file
- write into the loop mounted file system
- umount the file
Sometimes this works; occasionally the file remains empty after the
umount. A sync before the umount seems to help.
Is this a known problem?
Thanks,
Andreas.

Kernel Ooops probably in conjunction with lvm
Hello,
I've got a rather strange setup over here with about 6 ext3 partitions, one 50gig lvm partition and one 2 gig software-raid1 partition running under a heavily patched 2.4.10 kernel (various netfilter patches, freeswan, current lvm patch (1.0.1-rc4 and current ext3 patch). Furthermore I have all of those neccessary filesystem tools, so don't tell me to upgrade :-)
The machine was

Variable Scope
Hi,
I was wondering if there is a way to stop R looking outside the scope of
a function, if it can't find the variable inside the function.
I seem to waste hours debugging functions only to find I've used a wrong
variable name somewhere, but the function still works because the
variable exists higher up the hierachy. It seems it would be easier to
debug if the function just went

Using Hiera with Parameters set for the Puppet Node
Is it possible to have Hiera look at a key set for the node first, before
looking at other items in the hierarchy?
In particular - I''m using Puppet Dashboard and am setting keys & params for
there, so I would like for any value set there for a node to be used over
another item in the hiera hierachy. What value would I have to specify in
the hierarchy for this, if it is possible?

Cups / Samba Driver Download question
Hey all!!
Sorry about the crosspost but this invoves CUPS and Samba issues.
[Samba 2.2.8 / CUPS 1.1.8 / Redhat 7.2 std]
I have encountered a small problem (which is due to my own slipup more
than anything else).
I have "Windows 2000" versions of the Adobe postscript drivers installed
on many of my 2000 machines. Now I am wanting to use the CUPS drivers
which are "Windows 2000 or

Is STI the only way to do inheritance?
I''m currently coding a system which must store multiple contact methods for
a user (phone, email, postal address etc). I''m planning a fairly
straightforward inheritance hierachy for these, where each different method
inherits from something like a ContactMethod class.
The only mention of ActiveRecord support for inheritance I can find in the
Wiki and the Agile Web Dev book is

Outlook (2010) -> Dovecot (IMAP) >10x slower with high network load and many folders
Hi,
I am seeing a >10x as slow performance when trying to complete a
"send/receive" from an Outlook 2010 client to Dovecot via IMAP, but
only when the LAN is fully loaded with other traffic, EG file copying.
It seems the problem is when outlook is trying to identify folders
that have changed since last "send/receive" thus traversing the
hierachy.

numbers as part of long character
Hi,
I'm looking for some way to pick up the numbers which are contained and buried in a long character.
For example,

A Few Syslinux 5.00-pre9 Bugs

hiera default values for a variable
Hi everyone,
I currently have a giant file with default variables I use in a lot of my
modules and I override those at the node level if I need to.
I thought I would give porting that data into a hiera setup.
I worked out how to specify my data sources and started to make a go at
moving some of my variables in the default data file.
I thought heira would be smart and set a variable to undef if

(no subject)
Hi all
I have just finished installing / configuring my dovecot IMAP server.
Im seeing something weird happing.
It seems my Winblows Outlook users are experiencing a problem whereby
when they delete an email, Outlook
puts a line though the email, but the mail does not delete.
Im not sure if this is a an outlook problem or a dovecot IMAP problem.
I cant see anything in the conf file to
