Help! I have a simple home network. I have samba [2.2.7a] running with the smb.conf file listed below. I can see this machine in network neighborhood on a Win98 machine and a WinNT 4.0 machine, but I cannot see this share from a Win2K machine. If I issue a net use command from the cmd window on the Win2K machine I can mount the share and then open it as normal. WHY can't I see

When using Network neighbourhood, we do see the samba share. When clicking on it, it prompts us for 'Connect as' and 'password'. When entering the unix login and password, it returns an error message ' \\SambaServer\\share is not accessible; the account is not authorized to login from this station'. We run 3 (identical) processing environments that each contain a Samba host sharing approx .5TB of data to 6 Wintel machines. Hi, I'm having an issue trying to make a Windows machine sambaserveroin a Samba domain. Samba is running with LDAP backend (OpenLDAP). When I try to join the domain, Windows says that the machine account does not exist. The machine account, however, is successfully created in the LDAP directory after the join fails. I am having issues getting my Windows clients (all WinXP) in a 2003 AD domain to transparently authenticate to my Samba (version 3.0.10-1.4E.2) server. But the win wks on the other subnet is configured to use my SAMBASERVER as its WINS SERVER, and it is configured using the IP Adress of the SAMBASERVER and not the name. Shouldn't this do the trick? win wks is on a wireless subnet and hence runs at 11 MBPS, while the SAMBASERVER is on a wired subnet. I read somewhere that windows does some kind of "optimization" with slow networks.

This worked great last time I figured what do I have to loose... I can mount to myself mount -t //sambaserver/dir /test/samba this works fine...I even have username and passwords going through a win nt box. When I'm on a winnt4.x box I see sambaserver in the browse list but when I enter a "net view \\sambaserver" I get : No service is operating at the destination network

Hi all, I had a very simple samba-2.2.3a installation running. Not as domain master or such. Now after upgrading to 2.4.9-31 kernel, I am unable to start nmbd. smbd starts okay. Does anyone know of any selection in the config for a newly compiled kernel that could prevent nmbd from running? Is there a confict with this kernel downloaded from ftp.redhat.com? TIA Bob -- Bob
