Rebooting to hard drive from DOS floppy
Hi all, Do any of you have any ideas for getting a DOS floppy to reboot to the hard drive (which may contain Windows 98 or XP or Linux or Novell etc etc)? I want to use syslinux, but it does not support the localboot option like pxelinux and isolinux do. Basically, I want to boot DOS from a floppy, run some DOS stuff, then reboot to the hard drive while leaving the floppy disk in the drive.

smbclient -M/session request failed
Hi Folks! I try to send a popup via "smbclient -M" from a sun (SunOS 5.8, Samba 2.0.7, hostname "sonne") to a WinXP (hostname "dezntmneubeck_x") but it fails. Both machines are in the same physical network. All I get are the following lines: root@sonne(1017)/> smbclient -s /usr/local/samba/lib/smb.conf -M dezntmneubeck_x added interface ip=193.102.105.71

[Fwd: samba 30alpha21 + NT4/2K WS-s]
Hi, I have some strange problems with 3.0a21 PDC (samba and nss use both ldap) and I can't find any good help with google... One strange thing is that logon script does'nt work anymore, it worked at one point and now doesnt (I quite play around here and I dont know in which point of changing smb.conf it stopped to work). [netlogon] share is like that: [netlogon] comment = Network

restrict shares listings in domain to authenticated users
I'm setting up a samba primary domain controller in Debian woody and the users are logging into the domain fine and can access their shares. I would like to restrict the listings of available shares to only authenticated users of the samba domain. I know this works in a win NT4 domain, how does one do it with samba? This is the listing I get from an nt4 pdc (belongs to a different domain than

Eventually transitioning to Windows Server 2016
Hi, I am preparing to get our Data Center from a Samba 3.5 NT4 domain to AD. All users, file ownerships, etc. have to remain of course. I am planning to use Samba 4.7.x, but I was wondering if it is possible to eventually transition to Windows Server 2016 as the only DC hosts. The way I understand it is that this is not possible right now, because Samba doesn't support that schema version

[Gluster-devel] gfid and volume-id extended attributes lost
Ram, As per the code, self-heal was the only candidate which *can* do it. Could you check logs of self-heal daemon and the mount to check if there are any metadata heals on root? +Sanoj Sanoj, Is there any systemtap script we can use to detect which process is removing these xattrs? Ram, If you see it again, you can use this. I am going to send out a patch for the code path which can lead to removal of gfid/volume-id tomorrow. Please use the systemtap script( https://paste.fedoraproject.org/paste/EGDa0ErwX0LV3y-gBYpfNA) to check which process is invoking remove xattr calls. It prints the pid, tid and arguments of all removexattr calls. I have checked for these fops at the protocol/client and posix translators. To run the script .. 1) install systemtap and dependencies. 2) install glusterfs-debuginfo 3) change the path

Ram, I sent https://review.gluster.org/17765 to fix the possibility in bulk removexattr. But I am not sure if this is indeed the reason for this issue. Printing problems with Samba 2.2.3a
Hi, I've been using Samba 2.0.5 successfully for a long time and am now trying to configure 2.2.3a under Debian GNU/Linux 3.0. I've succeeded with the exception of one printer share. What makes this frustrating is that the share is mostly functional, but I haven't been able to find my problem described anywhere else. We have two HP printers, a LaserJet 4000N and a LaserJet 5N,

Growing out of floppy images, what's the best alternative?
Hi. We've been using PXELINUX for years, to kick off OS installations (floppy images) and booting assorted tools. The addition of ISO support in memdisk opened up some new alternatives that we also use, e.g. booting WinPE ISO images over PXE. Today I downloaded a BIOS for a HP EliteBook 8440p and discovered that the BIOS file is 3 MB. I could probably squeeze it onto a 2.88 MB floppy image
