Winbind Authentication on Redhat & Home Directories
Hi all, I have Winbind authentication up and running properly (thanks to new, easy to use features of Redhat Ent 4). My question is this. I know that I can, by massaging /etc/pam.d files manually, have Winbind/Samba automatically create a home directory for each user that logs in, but I am wondering if Samba/Winbind can instead map to their home directory as defined in their Windows profile

issue and solution : samba 4.9.4 and win10 1809 : windows could not connect to user profile service aka the home drive letter semi-colon is missing
Hi, Excuse in advance my poor english. After installing two new servers debian buster with samba 4.9.4 , one as AD ,the second as a fileserver, I was stuck when i tried to connect my users. On a Win10 client , i had the message "windows could not connect to user profile service". The only clue i had was in the event viewer, errors concerning svchost.exe_ProfSvc. After digging

Windows 2K/XP Profile/Homedir replication issue?
Hey there, Just a question for you Samba 2.2.x gurus out there :) We have a contingent (a steadily increasing contingent) of Win2K and WinXP workstations. Does anyone here know how to stop the profiles from replicating? If we create a file in the profile dir, say \\PDC\UserHome\profile.doc. It will replicate that to the profile directory, while one file or two files are not a problem, we use

Roaming profiles via GPO and matching rights on a folder
Hello, I set up Samba as an AD-controller as described in the documentation, that is with "samba-tool domain provision --use-rfc2307 --interactive", https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_HOWTO. I used Debian 7.8 as basis and the current packages (last Friday) from Sernet for Samba 4.1. Now I try to set up roaming profiles as described by Microsoft here:

/home vs. /homes vs. [%U]
I've run into a bit of a peculiarity with exporting home directories and what they map to. I'm running SuSE samba-3.0.23b-0.1.35. I have partition /home, with usernames on my linux box. Am running in "user security" mode. I'd like to be able to not only access my home directory, but the parent as well (/home). Some of the /home directories are "software project

wbinfo can not convert User names and Group name to S ID
Yep. We are dealing with once perfectly fine working 3.0.9 servers to erratic and weird behaved ones. We believe this is due to changes made my MS in http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/Bulletin/MS05-042.mspx but thus far have not been able to confirm. Commands like: net rpc join -S PDC -U <Admin> now return "no suitable server found" even though that is the same command

snapshotting disk images with exchange db / volumes
I have been asking at technet about if I could snapshot an exchange db volume[1]. But it looks like that windows server backup is sort of doing the same. Creating vs image, and backup that one. However they truncated the exchange db log files after a succesful procedure. I was wondering if someone is doing this already. How does the guest freeze work exactly in windows (In linux it is quite

thanks for the answer, Louis. i m talking about the userhome dir. I ve already read https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/User_Home_Folders and i m applying the posix acls to my share. Beside the homedir of my users have a form like /home/ first letter of name /login ( ex : /home/d/dare

Problem using LDAP generating Userhome
Hi there, I'm trying to let dovecot generate the userhome directory dynamicly via user_attr. If "uid" is returned from LDAP before "mail" everything is fine, but if "mail" is delivered before "uid" the localpart of the mailaddress is used in home path. e.g.: Mail: testuser at domain.de UID : test123 sometimes home is /mail/store/testuser and

Windows 2003 + winbind = hell
Hi, I want to set up authentication using samba 2.2.7 winbind and pam with Windows 2003. The Windows 2003 server is set up in "mixed mode". I follow the HOWTO, set up smb.conf and join the samba server to the domain. I hit a road block when 'getent passwd' yields no active directory users. I have been trying to get this running for two days, and I am beginning to think
