Printer in Win2k to share with RH Server
Hello fellows, I have this kind of configuration: one PC acting as samba server (PDC) with RH7.3 and three workstations with win2k. Today I've installed an Epson Stylus C62 printer on one of the Win2k machines (shared by the name of epsonlpt, and now I want to know if it is possible to use this printer from the RH Server? If yes, can you tell me how? Thanks in advance, Rapazito PT A

Unable to join Win2k to Samba Domain
Hi, We have a network of about 20-30 win2k machines in a Samba 2.2.7 (RH7.3) domain. All are joined OK. From yesterday (no idea what changed...), I'm unable to join new machines in the domain... The message from win2k is "The specified user doesn't exist". I join using the root user which is valid (able to connect to shares with this user). If I type a wrong password, I have

Win2k TS authentication probs / pw changing probs
Hi, We are having problems with clients changing their passwords from Win2k Terminal Servers against a Samba PDC. It works fine if the machine only has few users on it (ie when testing at 6pm after almost everyone is gone - I find it difficult to break). I'm guessing there is some sort of race condition or resource locking going on that prevents it happening properly. As I didn't

Quick Question
Apologies if there is a cleanly written and searchable FAQ that I could be directed to. I have no problem to RTFM if I can find the FM... Does Asterisk currently operate under RH9? I have IBM Netfinity 4000R servers that do not support X windows under RH8.x and I prefer not to go back to RH7.3... BTW, where would I find a useful FM? David -- David J. Sussman, MBA email:

Stumped at "Network Neighbourhood", Samba server is visible, but it's path can't be found ...
Hi all, I can see the RH7.3 linux box I've configured with the latest Redhat RPM samba package in the Windows 2000 network neighbourhood, but when I double click the W2000 computer icon I get the message "\\Linuxbox is not accessible, The network path was not found." The network is a small switched lan, sadly with only one unix box (RH7.3) and a mixture of Windows2000 and 98

RedHat 7.3 or Centos 2.1
Hi, I have a server that have an aplication that runs on RH7.3 and in Centos 2.1 Currently, it runs RH7.3 with yum updates from fedora-legacy My question is, should I update to Centos 2.1 or stay in RH7.3? What are my advantages of migrating to Centos 2.1? My concern are more about security updates in the next 2 years. Many thanks Oliver -- Oliver Schulze L. <oliver at samera.com.py>

Dear List, I hope someone could give me some explanation about above error/problem I got. More than one logon script, can I have?
Hi, RH7.3, Samba 2.2.8a, Win2KSP4 clients... I was just wondering, I know I can have a logon script based on a machine name, on a group, a username, etc., but am I able to actually have a combination of the above? I would like to have a standard group logon script (which I currently do have), but I would also like an extra script to run if they log on to particular machines under my domain...

Mailing list archives
Hello, I tried to search the samba mailing list archives located at: http://us1.samba.org/search/smb-mail.shtml But whatever I look for, I get the answer: "No matches were found for" I think that there *must* be at least some archived mail messages containing the words "wins" or "browse". But I always get this message, so it seems that there is a problem with

Input/output error
Hi All, About once a week, I get a this strange error on bash command line. Running any command on the command line results in " Input/output error". Only way to get back to normal operation is to hard reboot the machine. I suspect this is something to do with my file system. I am using RH7.3 with ext3 file system on IBM Travelstar drives. I use dd to duplicate the drives. The source

owner and group permission
Sirs, We've just successfully upgraded our samba server from 2.0 to 3.0. Access from windows clients and linux clients particularly RH7.3 and RH9.0 has no problem accessing the files and saving them. Unfortunately, we also have Mandrake and Knoppix workstations and in which we're having problems on the mounting of the samba shares. Mandrake and Knoppix basically uses the original

Thanks Samba Community!!!
You folks are the greatest. Rolled out my first Samba "member server" today. Read the stuff from SWAT, and it worked the first time on RH7.3, after it failed on RH8 You folks are the best, we're struggling to stay afloat and M$ squeezes us for more. (RH is pushing me to Debian by the day!!!) There will be a lot more Samba in the farm soon. My deepest grattitude. Respectully,

WINS servers and browsing
Well, I've asked a couple times already but I will ask one more, since I still havent' managed to get any further. We have several sites. Each site has it's own network and domain. We are connected via a WAN. Is the best practice to have one WINS server for each site? Or is a single WINS server for the WAN the way to go? Right now I have a single WINS server for the WAN. I CAN NOT

HDD duplication in RH7.3
Hi Folks, I have an internal HDD running under RH7.3. I would like to purchse a second HDD(usb external) of same geometry, and use it as a bootable snapshot of the first internal HDD. I wish to make a whole disk bootable backup regularly via this method. Is this feasible ? How should I approach this ? Any advice and/or documentations are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. karhong. --

Help - Moutning XP Drives on Linux box using.
Hey all. I've got four computers in a small network (Actually more, but keeping it simple to get to the point) 1> Linux Server (RH7.3) Running Samba (Default version with RH7.3) 2> Windows 2000 Workstation 3> Windows XP Pro. 4> Windows 98SE All of the windows boxes can connect, without problems, to the SAMBA server, and all the shares. No problems
