SuSE8.0 and SAMBA crash
Hi all, We have been using SuSE7.2 and samba (client and server) without any problems for a few months. Now, we migrated some workstations (samba clients) to SuSE8.0 and we get segfaults while accessing files mounted through samba. The segfault happens on the CLIENT side. Here is our network configuration: - SuSE7.2 server with default samba server package. - Few SuSE7.2 workstations

mount.cifs and Umlaut in share name
Hello, I need to mount a CIFS share (in the end via fstab, for now manually from terminal) which has both a space and a german umlaut in its name. I cannot get mount.cifs to mount it, it always complains it cannot find it. I managed to get around the space problem in fstab with the \040 trick, but I cannot find a way to correctly encode the umlaut. When looking at the output of "mount.cifs

Boot Failed: please change disks...
I had to create a single floppy image holding the kernel and initrd of SuSe8.0 distibution. When I boot the computer, it first loads the kernel, and starts loading the initrd. After a short while it halts saying ?Boot Failed: please change disks and press a key to continue.? The floppy image is served by a PXE server, so I am not sure if the problem I am facing has anything to do with ?bad

smbd/password.c:domain_client_validate(1604)
All, we have a SAMBA server set up that has been working great for everyone in the corporate office, not to long ago I connected one of our foreigh offices to us through a VPN. All of our users authenticate to our PDC, our users in our foreign office, who is on the same domain but we have them on a different subnet, are not able to gain access to the SAMBA shares, here in the corporate office.

Win98 clients accessing Samba file server.
HI All I'm in the process of setting up my first Linux box at work, a basic file server for all 20+ Win clients (I'm sick of paying M$ CAL) all have a 'home' directory and all share a 'shared' directory. What my problem is, everything is working OK with WinXP/2000 I can see the shared directory and our own home directory on the Samba box. With Win98 I can only see and

Problem with Windows XP SP1 Client
Hi, i've tried to configure samba 2.2.7 + winbind on a Mandrake 9.0 linux system, and all work fine, but i've only a problem: when i connect with any Windows XP Client the system ask to me the Username/password (the computer is in a NT 4 domain) and in the syslog i can see this line: rpc_client/cli_netlogon.c:cli_net_sam_logon_internal(406) cli_net_sam_logon_internal:

Problem with & in domain name.
Hi, I'm using Samba 2.2.4 and I'm trying to connect via domain level security, but I'm having problems which I think are due to the fact that the NT domain contains an ampersand. (I know this is bad, but I inherited it...) I can add the samba server to the domain with the command: smbpasswd -j MFP\&MFA -r NTSERVER -Uadministrator (backslash escapes the & in this

no access by set as NT Domain Member
Hallo... I use Suse Linux 8.0 with Samba 2.2.7a in a Network with WinNT 4.0 PDC and W2000 Clients. Samba is set as Domain Member with security = Domain. I join Samba to the Domain successfully. So existing users can be validate by WinNT Server. Make Linux user as NT user and fill in File "smbusers" admin = Admin, hans = Hans. Test Samba via smbclient on Server. ...but if I click on the

Auth. failing - Update - NSSwitch
Thank you Andrew, you pointed me in the right direction. Part of what I m doing to try to get Netatalk to authenticate through Winbind was the following: 4) to install Winbind files: cp nsswitch/libnss_winbind.so /lib # this is the major one - solaris nss is different to linux. ln -s libnss_winbind.so nss_winbind.so.1 cp nsswitch/pam_winbind.so /lib/security Once I deleted /lib/libnss_winbind.so

Auth. Failing... Update - NSSwitch
Yes. Try checking the PAM setup. I have to assume when you say that you can't log in via something obvious like telnet, you mean that Windows users can't log in. If your Unix users can't telnet in, you have bigger problems. :) The PAM stack is what controls the logging in of Windows users to Unix services like telnet. There is a document which describes the installation of winbindd,

Changing printer properties caused infinite loop (samba-2.2.7, cups-1.1.16, Solaris 2.8)
Hi, we have a samba printserver 2.2.7 with cups 1.1.16 with about 15 HP Printers. The samba server runs under Solaris 2.8 and is a member of a NT4 controlled domain. Because of some problems setting the document defaults, I tried cupsaddsmb with the Adobe PS driver. The installation of the driver works fine, but some document defaults (eg. download as softfont instead of substitute with

Samba as printserver; problems with settings
Hi, we are using cups 1.1.15,samba 2.2.5 under suse8.0 for printing. Everything works well (driver download), but we have some problems with the settings for the printers. Under NT 4.0 it is not possible to set "document defaults" all values can not be changed (only in the printing dialog). Also everything is lost, when you log off. What can we do to fix it ? The problem is, that

Trusted domain Authentication
I've a problem with trusting domain authentication , I've searched the newsgroup but found no answer . The configuration is very simple . A windows 2000 domain (DOMA) , which contains the samba server , and a Windows 2003 domain (DOMB). The two are trusted by a bidirectional trust . The problem is that users from the 2003 domain can't get authenticated by the samba server and are

It I try to copy a text file to a printer on the Samba server e.i. cp file \\lserver1\HP4000T nothing comes out of the printer and the following error message is written to /var/log/samba/log.smbd:
