Samba slow reads
Hi,
I've have Samba 2.2.8a setup on a OpenBSD box.
I have wav files stored on the samba shares.
Samba seems to access these files reeeaaalll sllloooww.
Can I tune Samba up to match the speed of WinXP and
Win2K machines on my net? Or is Samba just that slow?
Thinks in advance,

Problem connecting linux box to linux box in ad
Hi
I have a customer running 2 RedHat 7.3 servers. These are running to gether with w2k and w2k3
machines in an Active Directory.
I ran samba 2.0.7 and upgraded to 3.0.8 because of that the customer had to use restrict anonymous
= 2 in windows, that stops the IPC$ share to be seen by anonymous connections.
I configured Kerberos and could connect windows boxes to one of the linux boxes, the

[PATCH]: Drop the use of `check_nt_auth'.
Hi,
the following patch removes some of the Cygwin specific code from
OpenSSH.
Since Cygwin is able to change the user context on NT/W2K even without
a password since the new Cygwin version 1.3.2, there's no need anymore
to allow changing the user context only if the sshd user is the same
user as the one which logs in or when a password is given.
For that reason the whole function

My W2k client generates internal errors / panic in samba ?
I have a small site running Samba 2.2.8a from SuSE and I started wonder about the "stability"
of Samba running with W2K clients, when I installed W2k on a machine that previous ran Win.98
without any problems.
After the W2K installation's had been finished (with all security fixes, new drivers etc.) I noticed
that when accessing shares on the samba server, Samba began generating

Slow transfers under W2K, OK under NT4
Hi
Samba 2.2.5, Linux 2.4.9.
We're running a small network of half-a-dozen W2K and NT4 clients. We have
an NT4 server and have just migrated all our file serving to our Samba
server. It's immediately obvious that our W2K clients are now running much
slower when accessing files on the Samba server. The NT4 machines are fine.
On a W2K/NT4 dual-boot machine, W2K runs ten times slower - no

[PATCH]: Drop Cygwin workaround
Hi,
the Cygwin specific workaround to sleep a second in daemon() isn't

Slow Samba - Winbind - NT PDC - low bandwidth - Why slow lookups?
No comments on this one...?
Did earlier versions of winbind go out to the PDC for information for
each and every file that is listed in an explorer window? The is also a
like delay in listing directory contents on the linux box (ie ls- al)
==========================================
Hi all.. I apologies for the length.
Run a very old Samba version (2.2.5 - Yes security problems) and winbind

more roaming profile woes after upgrading to 2.2.8a
I upgraded one of my samba boxes to 2.2.8a after all kinds of problems with
roaming profiles not loading corrently.
Everybody can now log in (as log as the w2k machine has sp3 or newer) but I
still get the following error:
Cannot start microsoft outlook.
This happens on w2k prof and on my w2k terminal servers. I could fix the
workstations by adding their user account to the local

Head Domain Admins Group
Is there more documentation for smbgroupedit than the manpage ?
I'm trying to get the domain admins group to work. Steps i taken so far
1. create a unix group domadm
2. add my admin users to the domadm group
3. map the Domain Admins Group to the domadm group
4. make the domain admins group a domain group (smbgroupedit reported it as
unknown)
5. remove all domain users and groups from the

SMBmount in daemon mode slow to write
Hi,
We have a linux server which has the samba client running in daemon mode
(smb shares auto-mounted via fstab). The source smb share is on a W2K
box, and both machines are on the same 100MB ethernet LAN. Whenever we
try to copy a file from the linux machine's local disk to the SMB share,
we would get speed like 5,000-6,000 kbps, but yet if we try to ftp the
same file from the linux box to

EDV Room. Works this with W2K Clients ? I find only informations about
NT4.0 policies and samba 2.2.8a. And is there a howto with step by

I have som trouble with rpcclient..

re: hardware requirement asterisk
This is ifconfig on openbsd box:
fxp0: flags=8843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
I think this output shows that the fxp0 interface is on simplex mode.
The voice degradation I referred was by using xlite soft phone. I open 2
line similtaneously and dial to FWD and back to my incoming extension.
Xlite is runnning on a w2k box with realtek 100M nic in auto mode. I can

I think there's a good case to be made for OpenSSH to not provide any
instructions at all unless it is in charge of the dialog itself.
Have you checked that the current instructions are actually output by
OpenSSH? The string seems to be in openbsd-compat/bsd-cray.c inside

Procedure number out of range
Hi,
I've recently upgraded our Samba 3.2.5 to 3.5.5 from Debian testing repositary. This because of a future Windows 7 roll out. Installation and all the server stuff seemed to go fine (all deamons started) but when some of our (not all) users try to log on they get an error message saying "Procedure number is out of range". There is no difference between the XP clients that users
