cross-subnet domain join issue
I am one hurdle away from finishing my test PDC with ldap and password
sync. Its been a hair raising effort... and if I can solve this one
issue, we'll be ready to kick our Windows PDC out the window.
When I attempt to initially join the domain ( LOGOS ) from a win2K
client residing on a different subnet, I get the following:

How to hire a samba developer?
I'm curious about how one would go about contacting/hiring a samba
developer to fix a bug, or implement a feature. I've got a particular
bug in mind (1493), but it seems like it would be a good thing to know
in general.
Thanks,

ok, so oplocks: good or bad?
I have been searching for info on this and haven't found an
authoritative answer. From what I have read, oplocks are good because
they increase connection speeds, but they are bad because they don't
really work, but they actually do work, but they only work in some
cases, etc etc.
so, here's my problem and my question together: I get tons of these
messages every day (over a thousand a

winecfg screen size
I have been trying to get wine up and running for some time. I work with
the Debian Linux system with a KDE Desktop. Debian is supplying version
1.0.1 . I just installed the .deb file from the Wine website which is
version 1.1.24. That is the highest version available for the Debian
system. All of the versions that I have tried have the same thing wrong
with the graphic interface. I will use

quantstrat questions
Quantstrat useRs,
I have a number of questions about how to use quantstrat that I have accumulated since I have begun playing with it. First, can the orderqty be dynamic? All of the examples I have seen are based on placing an order for 100 shares when a rule is triggered. Is it possible to set it up to buy the maximum number of shares given the starting or current equity? Similar to that

Using OpenSSH with Rsync
This question is perhaps one you have seen before but I have not found an answer to as yet.
Rsync uses cygwin1.dll as does openssh. Is there a more current compilation of openssh that uses a more current cygwin1.dll such that both rsync and openssh can function on the same version? This is important because of improvements made to cygwin1 that affect rsync speed. Thanks for your thoughts and

vampire: account mapping strangeness
I am testing samba 3.0's net rpc vampire tool and am getting strange
results... after I import the account info, the samba usernames seem to
be mapping to hardcoded unix uid #'s instead of account names. For
example:
# pdbedit -u jah000
idmap uid range missing or invalid
idmap will be unable to map foreign SIDs
idmap gid range missing or invalid

Problem with permissions
I'm trying to set up a full server backup using rsync 3.0.6. I'm using
--fake-super, and SSH keys to access a remote server as a normal user.
My problem is that there is a local directory that has permissions 0111
("d--x--x--x"), and rsync throws an error trying to set the xattr:
rsync: failed to read xattr user.rsync.%stat for "/roach/backup/root/tcb/lib":

Using Wine-git for running programs.
OS Debian Linux Wheezy
wine-1.5.21-109-g136b738
I am just reinstalling wine and installed wine-git because I know I am
going to have to do a regression or two. I haven't bothered to install
wine by it self. When I tried to install and run a version of Websters
dictionary the program installed without error but refused to run
producing a fatal error window. I had this program running under

X server Display error in Debian Linux with KDE
I use Debian Linux squeeze version wht KDE desktop. I installed wine and
am missing most of the destop stuff I have seen in the documentation. I
am getting the following when I run winecfg or wine control in my
command line console. The X server is definitely running since
everything in KDE works fine. Running echo $DISPLAY returns :0

Using "include" for shares between servers
I have 2 servers setup in as high availability running multiple
applications. Each application can run on either server and has their
own file system that is shared.
I read that I can use the "include" statement in the global section to
call separate smb-XXX.conf files and have this working fine.
My question is how, or if, I can start/stop the smb-XXX.conf files
separately so

LDAP + SASL (kerberos) password syncing
I am getting a bit confused about which methods to use to keep my
passwords synced given the following scenario.
Samba PDC using LDAP backend.
LDAP uses {SASL}princ@REALM type passwords
Sasl mechanism is saslauthd using kerberos5
I can use pam like:
password required pam_smbpass.so
password required pam_krb5.so use_first_pass
and then passwd will set both passwords
but how can I make it

wine-users Digest, Vol 66, Issue 120
Could you be more specific. If I need to make a connection to localhost
then I am really confused. This is my first shot at wine so don't expect
much in the way of knowledge from this end. All I was trying to do was
pull up the wine configuration (menu?) and set the screen definition.
Also, from the error message, it appears that there should be a system
tray on the screen. If I minimize

Air Conditioning - ON!
All,
(and please do not turn this into the next long thread)
We have a small team which volunteers their time to create the CentOS
releases. They are pounded right now with getting that done... it is as
simple as that. Each of us 'chose' to use CentOS and with that choice
comes nothing more.
Why are we complaining? To me, it is all very self-centered. Basically
we're all

Please be civil, guys. Different engineers have different skill
levels, so what. If someone asks for some help with the reference
implementation the least we can do is point them in a useful
direction. If

writing tools that use light-markup
let's talk about writing tools that use markdown
(or more broadly, another form of light-markup)...
to begin with, there is the markdown "dingus"...
from a demo perspective, it has been _fantastic_.
it has provided interested observers a quick idea
about the simplicity and the power of markdown.
as a writing tool, it's a bit clunky; it will work, yes,
but i'd doubt many
