authentication problems after upgrade to samba 3.0.7-2.FC1
good evening all,
i upgraded my last samba 2.2.7a (dog2) this afternoon and
have run into
problems.
first, the setup:
windows 2000 clients
three sites on three seperate subnets connected by t1
through routers. each
site has a samba server that authenticates the users on its
subnet. the
workgroup name for each server is dognet. /etc/passwd,
/etc/group, and
smbpasswd are synced up manually.

smbclient 127.0.0.1 timeout .... PCs can't browse LInux share
Let's see I've got a network about 10 PCs running XP and 1 running
Linux. I had setup Samba and it was running like a charm. XP pcs
could access linux box through network neighborhood and access 2
shared dir and edit/change files.
Really not sure what has gone wrong. I am using Samba 2.2.8a
I run both smbd and nmbd as daemons. When I run ps -aux they show up.

Retrieving browser lists
I've searched the Samba docs, man pages, Using Samba, and a few other
places. I've been unable to find a way to retrieve the browse list (as in
Network Neighborhood or net view on Win32) from Samba. I'm using a RH 6.2
box running Samba 2.0.7 in a multi-subnet workgroup (which is really a
domain, but I don't have a machine trust account and I'm using security =
server). Samba is

Windows LMB and Samba DMB problems.
Note: LMB = Local Master Browser
DMB = Domain Master Browser
Have Samba 2.2.7A running embedded in a variant of ucLinux.
My interest was only to use Samba as a WINS server.
I've set up the SMB.CONF with this config. for one test:
wins support = yes
local master = no
domain master = yes
preferred master = no
os level = 0
I've set up the SMB.CONF with this config. for the other

NetBios name <1b> type record (Neighborhood browsing) !
Questions are about <1b> NetBios type record name for workgroup (for
workgroup, not for node) .
There is local subnet with Samba4 as DC (either Win NT or Win NT+) for
mdom.net domain, and as following, there is mdom workgroup in neighborhood.
But there are some other domain and/or non-domain workgroups in the subnet
which Samba4 does not belong to.

cross-subnet browsing
I have 2 subnets. Subnet 1 has an NT WINS server. Subnet 2 has a Samba
server acting as domain master browser and local master browser
for a workgroup.
If I view the network neighborhood from a Win 95 PC on Subnet 1
(call it PC_A), I can see all the hosts in the workgroup on both subnets.
If I view the network neighborhood from a Win 95 PC on Subnet 2
(call it PC_B), I cannot see PC_A. I

Samba4 and Lan/ Vpn clients browsing / accessing !
There is router/vpn server at Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with 2 static NICs - Lan
(local area network) , and Wan (wide area network) .
Also pptpd/xl2tp, iptables is installed at router.
Forwarding, proxyarp and broadcast relay is set up at router.
Samba4 4.1.x is installed at router. There is no any Wins in Lan.
So, there are Ran (remote access network, that is Vpn) clients

Serious cross-subnet browsing question
I've been having troubles getting cross subnet browsing working in
existance with a WinNT domain master (hey, it's not my machine).
Basically what is happening is that I am trying to setup a VPN (which
shouldn't complicate things) that browsing will work across. The idea is
this:
There is an office in my local city that I'm connecting San Francisco to
via VPN. The TCP/IP part is

Browsing network through a firewall.
I'm setting up a VPN, and am trying to figure out how to handle browsing
the network through the firewall, under Windows NT. I can mount
individual shares fine, if I enter things in manually, but I cannot see
the various shares availabe under Network Neighborhood.
Reading the various manual pages and smb.conf lead me to believe that
it is absolutely possible to use Samba to somehow proxy the

One of two samba servers not visible (remote announce problem?)
I have (more than) three subnets:
A: all unix (I think)
B: mixed unix and PC's
C: all PC's (I think)
I have a samba server on both A and B. They have
essentially identical configurations. Both are running
the nmbd daemon, and are configured as
workgroup = XXSAMBA.
I have a PC on C. Both net view /domain:XXSAMBA
and network neighborhood show only the server on B.
I assumed that

Help! Can browse from one subnet but not another.
I'm having some difficulties setting up browsing across networks and domains and was hoping some of you folks out there could help.
We have two domains on two physically separate networks, connected via a firewall/router. To my knowledge the firewall system is not set to block anything between the two segments, just to route them.

I've got SAMBA installed configured etc..

Access Win-95 Network Neighborhood via Linux PPP Server
I don't know if this is Samba related, but I figured those monitoring
these lists were the experts at Win-95 networking and Linux/UNIX TCP/IP.
I have a RedHat 5.0 i386 machine acting as a PPP server for Win-95 dialin
users. The only Win-95 service running is TCP/IP (no IPX, no NETBEUI), so
users can POP their mail, telnet to machines on the LAN, etc.
The next hurdle is to allow Network

Browse in subnet
My samba server is only showing up in network neighborhood for those
machines that are in it's subnet(ie x.x.106.x)
what must I do so the machines located in my subnets (x.x.132.x) and
(x.x.168.x) may also see my samba server in their network neighborhood?
thanks.

Configuration Question
I am trying to configure Samba 2.2.7 on an IBM PSeries server running AIX
5.1
The share appear in network neighborhood, but when ever I try to map to
them, Samba is
asking for a password?
I know I've done something wrong, but I just can't seem to find the answer
in the available documentation.

Netbios over more then one protocol
Hi,
i'm reading:
samba-3.0.20a/docs/htmldocs/Samba3-HOWTO/NetworkBrowsing.html#id2564441
... The election process is /fought out, so to speak/ over every NetBIOS
network interface. In the case of a Windows 9x/Me machine that has both
TCP/IP and IPX installed and has NetBIOS enabled over both protocols,
the election will be decided over both protocols. As often happens, if
