Samba server accessible but not browsable from network
Hi. I recently moved a Samba v3.4.7 from being a PDC to a member of a Windows 2008 domain. Everything works fine, shares are visible and usable by users, but only by typing the server name, the server is NOT visible while browsing the network. The only "issue" i noticed is the DNS update error when doing "net ads join" command. I then manually added the DNS entry in windows

network not accessible through bridged interface but traffic visible
I had a major HD failure and need to rebuild my host server and the virtual servers that resided on it. I am moving from CentOS 5.6 to CentOS 6.3. I am using the same configuration, as best as I can tell, that was working only hours ago on 5.6 but does not work on 6.3. My guest server can see network traffic on the bridged network device but I cannot seem to interact with it. Iptables turned

Windows can't see my Samba shares...
Ok... I'm really stumped. I have checked thoroughly. I've performed all of the steps in the checklist from the HowTo... except for the nmblookup parts. The arguments to nmblookup seem to be based on an old version. I'm hoping someone will have an idea. Here's the whole situation... latency accessing mapped samba drives from winxp
Hi all: I recently upgraded form win98->winxp pro for my desktop box, which accesses two samba filesystems for various tasks. When I upgraded to winxp, I noticed that there is this persistent 'lag' when trying to access either one of the mapped network drives, where on win98, that was never a problem. I'm using a workgroup instead of a domain ( don't know how to setup windows

Samba and AD based home shares are visible but not accessible
I've set up a CentOS system in my predominantly windows environment. Getting it to authenticate users with ssh based on AD user groups using KRB5 and SSSD was comparatively easy, but I am not able to share files from it. I followed the guide here to get as far as I did: https://www.centos.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=52872 When I browse to the server using

access samba 3.0 shares from Win2K, Win3K, WinXPProf. using netbios name
Hi: I have a Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Ed. as Domain controller, an its current domain functional level is 'Windows Server 2003'. Also, I have a RedHat Linux 7.3 server with SaMBa (tested with rpm samba-3.0.0-2, and compiling the samba source code). I'd joined the linux server to the AD tree without problems, access from it to the Win2003 shared resources too, but I have

Very slow initial opening MS-Word and MS-Excel files from Samba
The first time a Word or Excel file is opened, i.e., when either Word or Excel have not been actively running "recently" (like, say for several minutes or more), the time it takes to start the application and load the file seem inordinately long. Once the first evolution is complete, files open more-or-less instantly if I close the first document but leave either app running (but

Read but no write to linux shares from winxp
Running Gentoo linux samba-3.0.23a I've used samba for quite some time but never have had to delve into its inner workings... Its always just worked. Recently I'm finding that when accessing linux shares from a winxp machine, I have read access, but no write. Far as I know the unix to samba user mappings as set correctly (and as they have been for some time) Near as I can tell the

newbie help, please?
Hi, I'm trying to get a Samba (version 3.0.8pre1-0.pre1.3) to play with some WinXP boxes. I'm using WORKGROUPS, not DOMAIN. The server is running under Fedora Core 3. And I'm following the troubleshooting chapter in the O'Reilly book, Chapter 9. I cannot browse the shares from my WinXP machine. I CAN browse and access shares okay as a client on the Samba server machine. I
